I reached out to the team at MKE Design Build after meeting with (and not being terribly impressed by) a few other companies - so glad I did. My project was a second story build out (at least that's that the people in the know called it - I needed my attic renovated and wanted a bathroom with a walk-in shower). Communication from the very first was excellent. I was given the current timeline that they would be able to take on new projects and confirmed that I could wait until then. Michelle came over on the first appointment and we talked about the space, what I wanted and then she spent a good 45 minutes taking measurements and making notes upstairs. After that I received the first proposal and we made our way from there. The process was soon impacted by covid as was the budget. I was given a clear understanding of where costs had gone up (mainly materials) and suggestions of how I could make adjustments to the scope, materials, timing in order to claw back the costs. It honestly worked out fantastic. I was able to put the focus on things that I needed to be done very well (windows/skylights, insulation, electric, plumbing, tiling, drywall) and leave off some of the "would have been nice but not necessary" items for me to work on myself at a later date. The end result is better than I'd imagined. Working with the MKE team - Michelle, Matt, Tom, Chris, Maria and Karissa and the scores of in house craftsmen and trusted partners was a great experience. Overall they were respectful of property, tidy, thoughtful in their communications and Chris made some serious magic happen when it came to defining the varying ceiling angles and installing the cedar beams. I trusted them to do a good job and they did a great job. Not only do I have the most beautiful walk in shower known to mankind (thank you Caleb for the tiling), but they crafted a really special space upstairs taking into account and making the most of the attributes and charm of a 95 year old bungalow.

MKE Design Build renovated a house built in the 1980s. Michelle Swier managed the design aspect and Tom Gies led the physical renovation. We couldn't be more pleased with the result. I mentioned to them more than once that the finished project was better than I ever expected. We asked them to include a fair amount of woodwork, including a home library, and the detail in the wood finishing was spectacular. It is impossible to overstate how well MKE Design Build performed with our renovation. I am happy to write my sincerely highest recommendation. If anyone is considering renovation work in their home, please give MKE Design Build a look.

Michelle, Tom and the team at MKE Design Build did a phenomenal job with our kitchen and bath full gut remodel. Turned what was a bland and crowded space into a kitchen that boasts style and excellent functionality. They worked with us the entire way from design to completion. Very responsive and overall just great people. Would definitely recommend.

MKE Design Build was wonderful to work with on my bathroom remodel project. They provided a detailed schedule up front and completed the project according to schedule and budget. Michelle's design expertise is invaluable and she is very organized and addresses every detail of the project. The carpentry and tile work in all three bathrooms turned out beautiful. We have hired them for another project at our house in 2021.

We loved our experience with MKE Design! They were organized, communicative and most of all honest. Michelle was fantastic to assist with all the design and layout. She was so patient with all of my questions. I really respected her opinion and input, and the finished product is better than we could've imagined! MKE did a full demo and remodel of our kitchen, master bath, built a new stair rail, and opened up walls to make the home look more open. We also added a skylight in our stairway. While the project ended up costing more than the original quote, most of that was due to my desire to have higher end finishes. My suggestion for anyone remodeling is to look carefully at the quote and get an idea of how their quote for items like lighting, fixtures, tile, etc. compares to those that you have already been eyeing. Those were the only items that weren't inline, all of the costs related to building materials, labor, etc. was all on point. The team was always timely and professional. Everyone was at the house by 7:30-8am to get to work, and they worked their butts off until 5pm EVERYDAY. We lived through the majority of the renovation, and they were very accommodating to that. They always made sure to put up plastic zippered walls to avoid getting dust in areas that they weren't working on. I also appreciated that if something was off, they would immediately fix it. We had a great experience with MKE Design Build. They were easy to work with. I felt very comfortable with all the workers in our home. They had a clear vision for what would work in our home. When we needed to save money on our project they came with ideas to do things more affordably and I don’t feel like we lost anything. The quality of work was great and they kept to their stated schedule.

MKE Design Build goes above and beyond for not only their clients, but for future architects, like myself. I spent two days shadowing this company to gain more insight into where I could be heading in my life after college. Not only was I given the opportunity to view current and past project plans, I was able to see and be apart of projects in real time on the different sites. The owners, Michelle and Tom, as well as their knowledgable team, made me feel more than welcome in the office and on work sites.

MKE Design Build really came up with a unique solution for us. They delivered stunning built in custom cabinetry that really is a focal point of our home now. We had asked to add character into our new construction home, and they delivered. And, while it is beautifully crafted, it is extremely functional as well. We fully trust the team at MKE Design. They answered our questions quickly and worked above and beyond until we were all happy with the outcome. A quick example - we had a hard time matching paint colors to existing paint even though we were using the same paint. MKE Design didn't stop until they found the exact match and we were all pleased - it took numerous attempts, and we never felt like an inconvenience. They truly want you to be happy, and we are extremely happy with the end product.

I cannot say enough about the fabulous experience we had working with MKE Design Build on the remodel of our kitchen. When Michelle came to our home for the first time, we told her some of the things we didn't care for with the design of the kitchen. She walked around, suggested switching the direction of the island, extend the opening of the wall into the dinette enabling a larger island, adding a window to bring in more light along with other design changes. Her suggestions were possibilities that had never occurred to us. This was the beginning of the exciting transformation of our kitchen into one of the favorite rooms in our home. Tom and Michelle were very professional, helpful and kind as we picked things out, asked questions, changed our minds and took forever making decisions. During the renovation we received weekly email updates on the progress and what to expect next on the remodel. Each member of their team was the best at their specialty. Any concern we had was explained and changed if need be. It was obvious the crew enjoyed working together and for MKE Design Build. Each day someone showed up to work on a part of the kitchen. Chris H, the site manager, and Chris C did the majority of the demolition. Each day the construction site was left clean and safe. Their explanations and suggestions during the demo process were helpful in envisioning how the finished kitchen would look. The carpenters, Tim and Pat, were true artists creating details that matched the style of our older home. Dustin did an excellent job on placing all the tile. His expertise in cutting and placing tile is purely amazing. Joe, their electrical contractor, was so pleasant to work with. Not only was all the wiring done well but the antique lights which fit with the style of our home were installed with ease and without any issues. The cabinets look just beautiful with the granite we chose. Rudy and Wade did excellent jobs with construction and painting of the drawers and cabinets. The ease with which they open and close is a luxury. There were some touch up areas that were not perfect so those fronts were removed and taken back to the shop to be resprayed. They came back looking perfect. Some masonry work needed to be done with the addition of the window. We were thrilled with how perfectly the stones in this area were removed and replaced. It looks as if the window was always there. We enjoyed watching and talking with their mason, Chad, as he completed this area of work. Our original deadline was extended but that was due to some additions my husband and I chose to add that added time to the remodel. Michelle and Tom were very informative to us on this taking additional time. Also, because of the additions to our remodel during the demo and construction phase, the cost of our entire project increased. We were always kept informed of this through Michelle. She let us know of all cost additions and waited for our approval before continuing. Kylene and Karissa, the office managers, kept us up to date with informative and easy to understand invoices. All questions we had were answered promptly. As you can tell we are thoroughly pleased with our entire remodel. We have enjoyed our beautiful kitchen for over a month now and continue to stand back and admire it all. We would highly recommend MKE Design Build and would only work with this company if we need work done in the future.
