This review is late to the game, but I hired Avian in 2019 to completely renovate my Donald Wexler mid-century house, built by the Alexander company. Avian was a godsend and a delight to work with. Not a day goes by that I am not glad I chose her to be my General contractor. Biggest selling point is that she understands these houses, their quirks, and where to add the most value through renovation. She did not cut corners, but she also was quick to find ways to stretch the budget. Another selling point is she has a fabulous design point of view for these homes, and her attention to the fine details really brought the house together. She helped me immensely on what was a MASSIVE project and thankfully has become a friend in the process. We did every bathroom, the kitchen, diamond ground concrete flooring, indoor and outdoor painting, poured concrete in the backyard(sorry about that one Avian :-P), electrical, windows, sliders, moved walls, added closets, and the list goes on and on. The final product is a literal show-piece. If you saw my house before, the renovation and saw it now, you would not have any doubt as to whether Avian gets the job done. The best part is I've made a friend in the process.

We hired Avian and Moderne Builders for a much needed, complete remodel of our mid-century home in Palm Springs. We are very happy with the outcome, and would hire her again without hesitation. Our house looks amazing. Avian treated our home like it was her own. Her care and attention to every detail were awesome! She had great design ideas and a wonderful vision that we would never had seen on our own. She worked within our budget, and we even came in just a little under budget! She had great ideas to stretch our money, while keeping the look and feel upscale as possible. Avian was great to work with – fun, collaborative, and creative. The kitchen design utilized our space in a great way – it is beautiful and the kitchen feels much bigger. We moved and removed walls in the bathrooms to open up the space. They are bright, calm, airy spaces now. The polished concrete floors are a highlight of the house – everyone loves them. This was our first remodel experience, and we heard many horror stories about bad contractors. Happily, we never had a concern about anything, even with a few minor (expected) bumps along the way. Our previously tired, worn out, dated house is now a beautiful, up to date home that we LOVE. Avian is one of a kind! We would recommend Avian and Moderne Builders to anyone!

We would hire Avian Rogers/Moderne Builders again in a heartbeat! She brought such fresh ideas, technical expertise, creative vision -- and much appreciated good humor -- to our months-long renovation, turning a "good bones" but neglected mid-century modern home into the stylish Palm Springs villa ("Plumeria Sands") of our dreams. There were umpteen challenges along the way: structural, monetary, logistical, weather, you name it -- but Avian helped us clear every hurdle without losing sight of our aesthetic and financial goals. Because we live 2 hours away from the work site, it was essential to have a reliable, detail-oriented contractor who would be accessible from afar. I'm also one of those involved clients with endless ideas of my own; Avian not only tolerates my many schemes, but is willing to work together. I'm certain that collaborative spirit elevated the finished product beyond initial expectations. I developed so much respect for the career's worth of experience Avian brings to the table, for I know she helped us avoid the kind of pitfalls that lead to those abundant "horror stories" you always hear. Best of all, she has remained available for fine-tuning the results, follow-up phases, and friendly local advice. Honestly, even though the project seemed never-ending and mentally exhausting at times (they always do!), now that it's done I'm so proud to show off our house and already feel the itch to work with Avian transforming another "ugly ducking." I hope some day we can do just that!

We hired Moderne Builders for renovation on a 40 year old condo we purchased in 2012. Working with Avian was easy and her creative design vision made all the difference in the final product. As this was a long distance renovation for us, we were able to relax and trust in her process. She made it fun for us by sending photos of items she thought we might like in the condo, found on her days off while shopping. Communicating with us on the progress and guiding us through the build. We did have a few hiccups, as happens with all renovations, but these were handled professionally and served to only enhance our confidence in her abilities. Moderne Builders is the complete package. From design planning, thru construction, home decor etc, and the result, a great end product. We couldn't be happier.

Avian recently transformed my 1970's Mediterranean home in South PS. My goal was to maintain the original architect's Spanish style and incorporate a modern feel. Avian was instrumental in design and execution. My home was transformed into one of the most beautiful "Med Mod" homes in PS. Avian has a keen eye for design and detail and after we discussed our ideas, Avian made recommendations for a majority of the finishes. She is a true professional and has great vision.

The Moderne Builders team has done a bang up job, on our condo remodel. Our mid-century condo was in major need of repair and a major remodel. It was an amalgam of original walls, windows, fixtures, appliances and cheap updates from the early 1960s on that no longer functioned properly, and were firmly rooted in the past. Moderne worked closely with us to reconfigure the space from floor to ceiling, maintaining some original elements, but more importantly rethinking how to update the space in a contemporary fashion, offering advice and idea always with our budget in mind.

I hired Avian Rogers of Moderne Builders in 2013 to gut and transform a beautifully situated, but otherwise completely dated (and crumbling) 1980's vintage condo in the Palm Springs area. The results, in a word, were transformational! We now have a showplace that belongs in the pages of a design magazine. Though our condo had great bones--a terrific view, high ceilings, large spaces-- it was marred by dated baths (with carpet), a decrepit kitchen walled-off kitchen, ugly arches, etc.-- just a piece of (indescribable) work. Avian came up with a design to bring it up to date with an open layout and contemporary finishes that went beyond anything we imagined. She straightened arches, knocked down walls, installed a massive Caesarstone peninsula, and beautiful (though affordable) tile and cabinets that just knock your socks off. Having seen her work in other area homes, we trusted Avian with many of the design choices, and she didn't disappoint. Her work catches the vibe of modern Palm Springs (with a nod to mid-century) and that's what we wanted: bathrooms are models of contemporary design, with hip tiles up to the ceiling, beautiful custom mirrors and frameless shower doors; the kitchen, which once seemed small, now easily accommodates two cooks in a sleek, contemporary space (Avian used IKEA cabinets, but somehow transformed them to look completely custom and one-of-a kind); with the paint choices, the living and bedrooms seem even bigger than before. The place went from ragged and ugly to simply amazing thanks to Avian's vision, and in fact we're now the envy of the neighbors. During the high season our condo is on the rental market and there is intense competition to book it! Avian was a pleasure to work with and kept us apprised of progress, often calling at the end of each day with updates and questions. The work of Moderne Builders couldn't be of higher quality: impeccable tile work, electrical, and carpentry. (One example: in areas where she had to change the architecture, she even matched the wall textures so perfectly that no one would know there had been changes made. ) In all, Moderne Builders did a truly remarkable job on our condo--soon to be a retirement home-- and we couldn't be happier. Avian is very helpful, insightful, and experienced and is capable of taking a house that is a tear down and turning it into an awesome house. I am in the process of renovating one of my properties with her help.

Avian is incredible to work with. We bought this mid-century house when I was 7 months pregnant and living in another country. I was not present at all through the duration of this renovation except for making a few design choices via text message. I finally got to go down after the majority of the project was finished and I was blown away! I expected it to be good but not as good as it could have been since I had very little input throughout the renovation. I could not have been more wrong! In fact I think Avian did a better job without me being there! The workmanship is meticulous. Avian is a perfectionist and that definitely shows. I feel Avian renovated this house with the care she would have renovated her own. Avian is also very intuitive and just knew my design aesthetic. Everything she picked out for me was as good or better than what I could have picked out myself. The whole house is entirely cohesive, which is important as it is only 1225 square feet. Avian also made great suggestions on areas where we could trim down our costs. She suggested to go with ikea cabinets, which at first I completely wasn't in agreement with as I love custom kitchens. But we picked the high gloss white cabinets and she got her cabinet maker to make some custom walnut cabinets and panels. It looks spectacular! - and to be honest looks completely custom! So glad I took her advice! Finally, Avian just has spectacular design vision. As soon as she saw the property she knew where to remove walls, add windows, change patio door locations and raise ceilings! And looking at the final product she was completely right with all her recommendations! Working with Avian is like having a contractor, interior designer and architect all rolled into one highly energetic and passionate person! I almost forgot to mention that she is now doing our landscaping design! And it looks incredible too! She truly is the most talented person and I am so pleased that we found her to renovate our vacation house!

Avian is a rare find, and we feel very fortunate to have worked with her and the Moderne Builders team. Avian's vision transformed our humble little circa 1960's grandma ranch house into a fresh, light-filled architectural stunner. Avian is not only exceptionally talented at design and contracting but she has the patience and love of a saint. From the beginning stages of our project I soon realized I could trust her so completely....in design as well as execution, that I was able to experience the project with virtually no stress. Thanks to Avian our home is a beautiful modern space that everyone has fallen in love with, that no one wants to leave! The results far exceed anything we could have imagined possible!
