These are the best builders in not just NC but in all the states I have been living. Quality but also attention to every detail.. I’m very impressed. A commitment to the dedication my grandfather put into the houses he built in Wisconsin.. I can’t say enough for these builders.

While searching for property to build a home, we looked at a lot that seemed impossible to build on. The sellers turned out to be Emily and Jeb, and lucky for us, Emily had spent time thinking of a home there and showed us renderings of an idea she had been working on. Almost immediately, we fell in love with her vision of design and placement. The style was right in line with what we wanted, and the position of the house on the lot was perfect. A collaboration began. Emily worked with us to design and create our beautiful light-filled home and Jeb used his experience and craftsmanship to built our home with insight, care and mindfulness to environment. They pay extraordinary attention to detail, have great knowledge of quality materials and communicate very well. It was easy to keep up with progress, adjustments and scheduling through a builder's website that was updated regularly. We were able to stay on budget with their help, and they offered options with design and materials when we asked for them. All the complements we get are a testament to the talent of both Emily and Jeb. They are an awesome team and you won’t find a more honest, professional, yet down-to-earth, creative pair. If you want a home built correctly this is the team to hire. Emily & Jeb are professionals of the highest order. Emily is a masterful designer & Jeb is the consumate craftsperson. They are honest , responsive, knowledgeable, Emily listens to her clients & designs homes that reflect what her clients want. Jeb turns those 2-dimensional drawings into beautiful homes. They work with reputable sub-contractors & hold the sub-contractos to standards of conduct & quality. They are an amazing team. We love out home.

We first found Mountain Sun on the Internet. I sent Emily an email asking if they would be inerested in talking to us about building a net zero home for us in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She responded immediately that they would be more than willing to talk to us. We flew to Asheville and Emily and Jeb both took time out of a busy schedule to meet with us. We immediately liked them and the homes they designed and built. We are now one month into our new, net zero, -22 HERS score home and WE LOVE IT! Our house was built with structural integrity---no cutting corners. Sub-contractors showed up and did their work. Jeb checked everything, and I mean everything, from window weatherstripping to the insulation. Emily made it so very easy to pick out the hundreds of things one must decide on for a home by giving us four or five choices that fit the style and energy efficiency of the house that she desinged for us. Both of them were, and remain, responsive to our questions and comments. Emily and Jeb are the perfect team in that they both know what they're doing and go about their business with honesty, thoroughness, and craftsmanship. They both listened to what we wanted in a home and incorporated our wishes and ideas into a home that is warm, inviting, and has an environmental conscience. We live in a house filled with light and air. I cannot say enough good things about Emily and Jeb in terms of the quality of their work and the quality of them as people. We know that our money was well spent and that you do get what you pay for with Mountain Sun.

Quality, quality, quality!!! We LOVE our “Asheville Custom Home”... and so does everyone who sees it including family, friends and even delivery people. HUGE windows that let all the light and nature in (where we can safely watch bears, turkeys and more); a beautiful, open living room; and wood milled from the lot are only a few of the things that make our home beautiful. Emily’s design more than exceeded what I hoped for- she listened to our ideas- AND she included practical design elements that make living life in our home easier and more enjoyable. She designed the most awesome art loft where I can look out at the trees. It’s like living in a tree house! Jeb insisted on only the highest quality work, over-seeing every step and even firing a crew and re-doing some woodwork so that it was beautiful and met his high standards. We absolutely recommend Mountain Sun Building & Design if you want to build a beautiful, high-quality house!

My Wife and I were searching for homes in the Asheville area when we met Jeb on his most recent job site. We later met with Jeb and Emily to discuss a future custom home, and they were absolutely excellent to discuss our future home which we will surely be building with them. They had done such an amazing job with the spec home in Shelburne Woods Drive that we decided to buy that house. We had seen many other homes and noticed a marked attention to detail on both Emily's design and Jeb's build process. They have exceeded our expectations of a new build, as they continually support any minor issues that are popping up as would be expected in any new build. They even have proactively pointed out tweaks they'd like to make post-completion. It goes to show they are both excellent well meaning people that are genuine and care about the people who buy their homes. We are lucky to have met such a great team, and it's a welcome change from what we are used to in the home buying process. We look forward to some day building and designing custom home with them, but for now we are going to enjoy this amazing home they have built for us. We can't recommend them highly enough.

The Mountain Sun team has been nothing but exemplary in its creativity, talent, and skill. We are so happy with their work. Emily is very conscientious of budget which I obviously appreciate. She and Jeb have a great deal of experience and knowledge which made our home breathtaking and exactly what we wanted.

OK...so I just ran into these lovely people again at Ingles yesterday and I promised, to finally, finally, yes Jeb, finally write down a Houzz review of the dream home they built for - though they didn’t know it at the time - for us. This was our first time we bought brand new in 5 home purchases since 2005. I cannot begin to describe with great adequacy the remarkably positive experience we had working with Emily and Jeb and how pleased we are to be living where we are right now. This was Emily’s first spec and we found and bought it at roughly 60% complete. We were able to influence finishes and some design features but for the most part the house was a reflection of Emily’s unique design approach, esthetic vision and absolutist commitment to green building. The design of the home is efficient and modern in line and layout but cozy and warm as we wake up surrounded by maple floors and cabinetry and pine trim throughout. Her subtle intention shows through with super cool floating shelves, well-placed and blended cabinetry and storage, uncompromising indoor/outdoor flow (you should see the screened in - best room in the house 9 months out of the year) and conservation minded plusses like on-demand hot water, over-the-top R-values throughout, solar gain siting and a high-efficiency wood stove. Enough about the house you can see the pictures - it’s amazing, there’s good reason it won the green built award in the Asheville Parade of Homes in 2013 and folks still stop in the street to take pictures. Working with Emily was stress free - not for her, we were nervous, uneducated about a lot of things and demanding as we had our own timelines moving all the way from the Colorado. Yet, our builder took it in stride, worked with us, put aside her vision to match ours and gently prodded us when we needed it to make good decisions. Unless you’re a builder or someone that has worked through the process you want that. You want someone who you can trust and that will share their knowledge and skills to assist you in understanding the trade-offs and the opportunities when making key design and finish decisions. She met each milestone as promised and communicated upfront about potential challenges. Her subs were fun to get to know and very customer friendly and focused even when she was not on the job. It was a no-surprises experience all the way. Moreover, she was great to work with after the project. As is normal, things have to settle in and change is hard. We had some growing pains with the neighbors, her other clients that built above us and had some structural fixes after closing that needed tending as well. Emily was there standing behind her product and willing to work with us and everyone in good faith anytime folks reached out even though sometimes things were largely out of her control. She’s a thoughtful, caring but fair-minded builder who’s design approach and green-inspired quality is unmatched in the Asheville market and we are so delighted and grateful for stumbling upon her first project and smartly jumping on it before some other lucky family did. If you’re looking to build in the Asheville area you will not find a better company to work with in my opinion. More importantly if you want to be part of the solution, moving markets and consumer behavior and options in the right direction for a smarter, cleaner and more sustainable future, Emily’s defintiely your builder. I cannot recommend Jeb and Emily at Mountain Sun highly enough. Their process for design and construction is both thoughtful and honest. We came in to the project at about 60% complete and we were immediately provided a full list of proposed finishes and fixtures. We found the finishes superior to others encountered in the market and quickly made the decision to allow the project to proceed as proposed. I believe that was the smartest move we made during our entire home buying process. The attention to detail is constantly commented on by our guests. The home we ended up with has integrity in every facet from windows, to the gutters, to the solar system and appliances. Even the landscaping (often an afterthought in todays spec. homes) is both functional and beautiful. Jeb was on site everyday overseeing construction quality and always patient with my presence and questions. All of our future projects will start with these guys. -CD
