Five Stars — The Best We've Worked With My wife and I hired Potter Design Build to transform our Early 1900s Grant Park Craftsman from a 2-bedroom, 1-bath home into a 4-bedroom, 3-bath with a full two-story addition - all while honoring the historic character of the house. After interviewing more than 15 firms, we chose Potter for their full-service approach, local expertise, and deep knowledge of historic homes. It was the right call. Brent and Michelle were patient through multiple design iterations, navigated the historic approval process expertly, and stayed communicative, responsive, and detail-focused from start to finish. Their subcontractors matched that same standard - quality materials, top-notch workmanship, and true professionalism throughout. I've been in commercial real estate for over 30 years and have worked with many contractors. Brent and Michelle are the best I've encountered on a personal home project. We can't say enough how thankful we are to the Potters for all the work they did in designing / building our dream home. When we first reached out to them, we had a very loose/general idea of how we'd like to improve upon our current space, and we were honestly half-expecting them to say "no that's impossible" and send us on our way. Instead, they meticulously worked with us throughout the design process, crafting the plans for an open living/dining space on the main level of the home + a new 2nd story addition, while still retaining the charm and character of our 100 year old Craftsman home. Then when we pivoted to the construction phase, they remained clear and communicative throughout. All of the trades that they sub-contracted with did stellar work, and Brent supervised the entire process to ensure that every detail of his design was executed perfectly. And on top of it all: they are lovely people! Our 6-year-old told us (shortly after the project was completed and we had moved back in) that though she loved the new house, she was sad that she wasn't going to see Brent as much. If you're considering renovating your home, we highly recommend Potter Design Build, they'll make your dreams come true!

I would like to give a whole-hearted recommendation of Potter Design Build for any remodeling or construction projects you may have. Brent Potter provided excellent guidance and execution in both the design of my project (including drawings, permits, etc) AND, the execution of the actual construction of the work. Brent did a fantastic job in conceptualizing the best use of the space according to my needs and practical limitations of the space. He works with a very reliable team of sub-contractors who completed each part of the project reliably and with quality in mind. I found it very easy to work with Brent as he was so very helpful in helping me weigh the pros and cons and pricing of various options with the remodel and build out. My trust in him on the project was extremely important and I never had any reason to doubt his decision-making or integrity. He was always accessible, flexible, and happy to answer questions. Brent also made the decision-making easy when it came to fixtures and features and provided many cost/quality options for most all of the decisions. Time and time again, Brent was very patient with me while I made various decisions on the project. His experience helped guide me so many times to make sure I was making the best decisions for my needs and long-term happiness with the remodel. Although I was out of the country for a couple of months during the project, Brent did an excellent job of keeping me informed and provided videos with commentary (via Marco Polo) as the work progressed. Brent’s wife, Michelle, also did an excellent job as a project manager on the project and she too kept me informed throughout the remodel. I really felt I could trust the Brents throughout the job and I would not hesitate to consider them again for any future projects. As for the end result, I could not have been happier! I was able to rent the remodeled home very quickly (within 2 months), and at an extremely competitive rate. (I actually ended up renting it to the first couple that looked at the home…..and out of the 9 or so houses they had looked at, they said my home was by far the best that they had seen!) David C. Brent & Michelle make home remodeling look easy. We couldn't be more thrilled with the work that was done to our house. It looks incredible! And although I've heard a lot of contractor horror stories, working with the Potters was a dream. They kept the lines of communication open throughout the process and even in the middle of a pandemic & supply line issues they stuck to the timeline. Brent and Michelle were so easy to work with! We worked with them to draft up some plans for a detached garage we are building. They met all timelines and were really good at keeping us in the loop at all times. They made the process a breeze for us attending the permit meetings and drafting the permit applications. We really would have been lost without them. We definitely recommend them to anyone need an architect for their future project!

Brent recently helped us with drawings/plans for our major kitchen/living/dining room renovation. We could not be any happier with how our project turned out! Brent is quick and efficient, and he and Michelle are great with their communication. Brent’s experience and knowledge helped us narrow down what we were trying to accomplish; taking us from concept to functional and practical reality. Brent is fantastic! We absolutely love our kitchen and new bathroom, and we love that our house is now level. His method of construction and in general, were always deliberate and methodical, which as a designer myself, I appreciated. Leveling our house was a huge task, and I am extremely assured that because of Brent's persistent research, we chose the right solution. Potter Design Build has my absolute highest recommendation! I hired them to renovate my entire home, which was a shell when I bought it last year (December 2017). Brent Potter did everything from the design to the construction, and covered everything in between. He managed patiently to explain his recommendations while still incorporating my wishes into the design. He also found an incredible historic tax program that will help me tremendously in the long run, and was willing to work with historic experts to conform design elements and materials with the requirements to preserve the character of my home and save me money. The business manager, Michelle, is always responsive, highly organized, and a great liaison between loan officers and trades. Both she and Brent did an amazing job of interfacing between subcontractors and keeping clear communication with me about additional costs or changes in timeline. I trust them both completely, because they have proven themselves over the past year to be true professionals, diligent with work, excellent in judgment, patient with me, and somehow managing to pay attention to detail in the midst of bigger picture planning. Because this is my first time ever owning a home, Brent even went so far as to send me a calendar reminder for when to change my air filters; the level of care and excellence Potter Design Build provides is awesome. I recommend them wholeheartedly!

Brent is fantastic. He listens and really thinks through the best use of the space in harmony with our functionality and aesthetic desires, while providing modern and creative innovations and space usage. Before our home was tired, old and did not suit our family of fiour well. And entertaining was problematic. We now have a great entertaining flow, a gorgeous space, and a home we adore and are proud to show off.
