Before we hired them, we had a pretty clear idea of what we wanted to do, but Dave Smith proposed a completely different design that turned out be incomparably better than our initial idea. Architect John Mariani, suggested this co. to help me finish a restoration project. Within one week after hiring them, the storefront was on it's way. The carpenter that was assigned to work on this has a love and patience's needed to work on historical buildings. We hired Smithouse for a full renovation of our master bathroom and a partial renovation of a guest bathroom. They also designed and installed custom closet doors for a dressing area. Dave Smith, Shawn Saffran (project manager) and the Smithouse team accomplished the impossible. They made a 5-month, live-in renovation not only possible but enjoyable! All the workmen made every effort to construct a project to be proud of in a timely fashion. Everyone was attentive to our needs/concerns as the homeowner. We were kept in the loop during every phase and "glitch" of the project so that we did not question the honesty of all involved. Smithouse created some beautiful spaces for us!

From January 2012 to June 2012, Smithouse Construction performed a significant remodel and expansion of our home in Roland Park, Baltimore, MD. The project included adding on a large kitchen, roofed screened in porch and stone patio. Our project was unique in that for most of it we were traveling overseas and unable to monitor day-to-day progress. We were correct in trusting Smithouse’s professional reputation and the quality of their leadership team. Throughout our trip they kept us fully informed via photos, video and conversations via Skype. Friends and family who thought we were crazy to leave the country for such an extended period during the renovation and expansion…decided that we, in fact, were brilliant, upon seeing the beautiful home we returned to… Smithouse employees were always in uniform, polite and responsive. They maintained a very neat worksite and ensured the project had little impact on our neighbors. Smithouse also had good relationships with their sub-contractors, our architect and our interior decorator and made constructive, creative suggestions throughout. Overall, the quality of workmanship was excellent and Smithouse did not hesitate to recall a sub-contractor to the site if the work did not meet their standards. Dave Smith (Smithouse) completed the work for two additions to our house. One was a very tricky kitchen renovation and the other was a large master suite with a French balcony, window-seat a bump out, a large walk-in closet, huge bathroom and fireplace. He and his crew did an amazing job. He's no-nonsense, very professional, and completed the job on time and within our agreed-upon budget. The best thing about working with Dave was that he met with us regularly to discuss the job and talk about progress, go over things that needed to be fixed--anything we wanted to talk about. These were regular meetings that he initiated. He is a kind and competent person who will make sure the job is done beautifully and on schedule.

Smithouse built an addition onto our 200+ year old home in 2013. The addition includes a sunroom/dining room, laundry room, 3/4 bathroom, a side porch, an updated porch and entry area, and installation of central AC. Their workmanship is excellent. They seamlessly intergrated the addion with our existing home. The design and details in the addition incroporated details found throughout our existing home. Smithouse employes experienced professionals that are very easy to work with. The project manager met with us weekly to review the project schedule for the week and listen to any concerns. The staff working at the house were friendly and courteous. Deadlines were met and the project budget adhered to, although we added several changes to the orginal project scope that increased our initial budget. This was handled via project scope changes/estimates that we approved before the additional work was started. We love the addition! We have recieved numerous complements from friends and neighbors. I highly recommend Smithouse.

We have used Smithouse for two home projects - a basement and master bathroom remodel. Both were large projects, but the Smithouse team made the process stress free. The project managers and team were professional, courteous and a pleasure to work with. Their attention to detail during the construction made the end results better than we ever imagined. We will continue to use Smithouse for all our future remodeling projects.

Our house is twenty seven years old and we felt it needed some remodeling. We first targeted our bedroom and master bath. We contacted Smithhouse off of a recommendation from a friend who is an interior decorator. When we met with them, they gave us some ideas that never occurred to us; ideas that would result in a more attractive and efficient way to use the space we had. They remodeled our master bath and dressing area as well as a hallway bath. They dd the work while we were on vacation updating us with pictures along the way. We loved the result! Our next project was our family room in the basement. It was a no-brainer choosing Smithouse again for this project. My cramped, dreary man-cave was transformed into a bright open family-friendly, entertaining area where we enjoyed the 2013 Ravens' Super Bowl victory with plenty of family and friends, more then we could have accommodated previously. The major pieces of this project were a new mantle and hearth for the fireplace over which our big screen TV was mounted and some built-in book shelves. A year later, we experienced a flood in our kitchen that occurred during the frigid temperatures we had in early January. The flood ruined our hardwood floors on the main level and the ceiling, carpeting, and some walls in our year-old lower level family room. Once again, we turned to Smithouse. They handled everything; the new flooring on the main level; the carpeting down the steps and into the family room, the ceiling and walls ; and electrical and plumbing. Another fantastic job. The room looked as if the flood never happened, save for a newer bigger TV for which I'm not complaining. Now came time for the outside of the house. We wanted to repair and improve our current deck which was unsightly and unsafe. We invited bids from several contractors, including Smithouse. Now Smithouse was not the lowest bidder. But, with the materials, options, and time frame they proposed, they were the best value. And, the positive experience we've already had with them made the choice easy. Smithouse redesigned and re-configured the deck support system and stairway to open up the space below the deck for a spacious patio. They also recommended and installed the Dek Drain system which allows us to enjoy our patio regardless of the weather. We basically gained two more living spaces, albeit outdoors. Once again, just like with the master bath, the ideas the Smithhouse professionals envisioned gave us more usable and enjoyable space. In total, we've had Smtihouse do four substantial projects for us. They did excellent work, on budget and on time. They coordinated and stood behind all the work performed by the electricians, plumbers, painters, and flooring installers. They pulled all the permits and arranged for inspections. They were even instrumental in getting our HOA to approved our deck project by supplying specs, drawings, and justification of why the improvement were needed. There are many home improvement contractors out there to choose from and I'm sure they are all capable of providing the same level of quality we received form Smithouse. But, what sets Smithouse apart from the rest is their professionalism, friendliness, and integrity. For the duration of the projects, we felt very comfortable with giving Smtihouse a house key so that they could come and go to do work while we were not home. All along, we felt like we were having friends work on our house. Any company can do excellent work and provide good customer service when things go right. It's when problems arise that excellent customer shows up. After our floors were done we noticed a few small defects in the floor finish; small enough that we did not think it was an issue to be dealt with. When pressed for an honest assessment of the floor, we mentioned the things we saw. Later that day the project manager called to tell us that they were offering to re-do our floors at no cost to us. They would handle moving everything out of the main level of the house to allow for the work including storage of our belongings. And, they would do all of this while we were away on vacation. This blew me away! This is above and beyond good customer service and is the reason that I will continue to turn to Smithouse for any home improvement projects in the future. You should too!

Smithhouse designed and constructed a new kitchen for us. They gutted the old kitchen and bumped out the back a few feet. The opened up walls to make the house feel bigger. They were very reliable, clean, and did high quality work. I felt comfortable trusting them in my house and doing all the work with support beams etc. Vey knowledgeable and good group of guys. There was always a project manager on the job inspecting the work. The cabinets were custom made by their cabinet maker so you can have anything done to your specifications. Defintely would trust Smithhouse for your large important home improvements. You can be sure it is done right. They are pricey, so sometimes that is cost prohibitive for certain small jobs.

The Smithouse Team literally made our dreams a reality. We hired them for a complete kitchen, family room, mud room and dining room overhaul. From start to finish, they were fantastic to work with! They were extremely thorough in the planning process to make sure that they knew exactly what we wanted, and when we asked them to make changes during construction, they were not only receptive, but enthusiastic about making sure that our ideas came to life. Once the project actually began, they held weekly meetings so that everyone knew where we were in the process and what was about to happen in the week to come. They set our expectations accordingly, so there were no surprises. One of the things that I was really impressed with was the quality of their employees. I have three small children, one who had to nap every afternoon, and they would literally work around our schedule. They couldn't have been nicer or more respectful of our home and all of our belongings. They were all extremely polite and left everything clean and safe at the end of each day. The before and after transformation was beyond anything I had anticipated. The completed project just blew my mind... it was even more than I was hoping for, and I would recommend Smithouse without hesitation to anyone is interested in doing a renovation.

Smithouse Remodeling helped us with a complete renovation of our home. They did a superb job and made the process a true joy. I don't know anyone else who has ended a renovation with the scope of ours who is still singing the praises of their contractors like we are!
