We hired Tom and his team at Stumpff HomeWorks to remodel our large basement and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. It was a big project and we felt we were in good hands throughout the process. Remodeling projects can be stressful, but Tom and his team put our minds at ease through their creativity, professionalism, craftsmanship and grace. Our beautiful basement was finished on-time and on-budget with no surprises along the way. After a year, we have had zero warranty issues to report. Immediately after purchase a MCM in Olathe, I knew I was going to bid this remodel out. I reached out to 2 different people and both mentioned Stumpff Homeworks. And I’m so glad they did. Picking a contractor is insanely nerve racking. We all know someone who has a horror story, but trust me, you don’t not need to fret if you select Stumpff Homeworks. Tom was exceedingly patience as I spent the first year iterating and iterating on the designs. The team helped reign me in when I got distracted and offered up innovative solutions to help deliver my desired end result. I’ve never been able to let another contractor do the work because I’m a bit OCD when it comes to how things are finished. With Tom and his crew of expert craftsmen, I quickly learned that they know exactly what they are doing and take immense pride in exceeding your expectations. Tom will not be your cheapest bid. If that is what you are looking for, you’ll need to pick someone else. If you want incredible craftsmanship performed by honest and just freakin’ cool people that produce the house or room of your dreams that you’ll get to enjoy for years and years, this is the team.

In the four weeks since we inaugurated our renovated kitchen, I’ve been searching for the superlatives to describe our experience with Tom Stumpff and his team. Coming up short, let me settle by saying that my wife and I are thrilled: the kitchen is everything we wanted, only better! Tom gets huge credit, uncannily understanding our goals and tastes. I’m not the trusting sort, for example initially resisting some of Tom’s design suggestions. But as the project proceeded, particularly during the construction stage, I increasingly understood that he probably had a better sense than I did of what would look good to me. Tom is also a perfectionist. For example, near the end of construction he felt that the location of one of the can lights was off and so had his team close it up and then cut/wire a new one. Similarly, he was unhappy with the floor trim below one of our appliances and so constructed a magnetic face plate with wood that matched our cabinet. And the Cabinets!! They are awesome, beautifully grained and incredibly functional. Tom took us to visit the cabinet maker at his workshop, who helped guide us on some key design choices, such as the wood (ash) and extending them to the ceiling rather than the more-typical choice of ending somewhat lower. A few additional happy-face emojis: Tom's workers were very friendly and did an awesome job cleaning up at the end of each day. Indeed at the end of the project, when Tom's housekeeping crew arrived, I thought they had already been through. The weekend after, when we were unpacking, we asked Tom for an extra shelf for each of our vertically spacious cabinets... and there they were when we got home from work on Monday. Since then, to my surprise, I've been finishing my evenings cleaning up the kitchen, admiring and enjoying our new digs. Lastly, we've already independently hired two of the contractors Tom recommended: a plumbing company and a roofer, both of which have excellent reputations (I checked) and significantly underbid several competitors.

My husband and I learned about Tom Stumpff from a colleague who had used him for a remodel. From the first interview to the end of the project, his company did an excellent job. Great experience with Stumpff Homeworks! Had a complete laundry room remodel. Tom and his employees were easy to work with. Designing with the assistance of the interior decorator Molly was simple. Project started on time and workers were there almost every day working until the project was complete. Area was always clean and tidy at the end of each day. Minimal disruption to our daily lives. Laundry room was taken down to the studs along with removal of closet. New tile, custom cabinetry, sink, new stacked washer/dryer, built in folding table, and amazing finishings throughout. Tom was easy to communicate with throughout the process and always responded quickly. Would 100% use Stumpff HomeWorks for future projects.

Stumpff Homeworks helped us upgrade and replace all the windows in our house. We did it one floor at a time, as we were able to budget for the remodeling. They worked quickly and contained the mess very effectively. They stayed on schedule and completed phase two for us while we were away on vacation. That's how much we trust Tom and his team! Every time I turn on a light or notice the trim, I think of the people that took the time the do it not just right, but really show their dedication to craftsmanship. Just a couple small examples, but I think about the arch that Gabe so carefully cut out into cardboard to match the existing 1930 geometry and worked with us to decide between different options before moving forward, or the time I overheard Matt obsessing out the Feng Shui of the lights in the kitchen. They truly went above and beyond and the results are all the more amazing for it. I’m deeply grateful that we had the good fortune and the benefit of David’s good advice to work with you and your team. This nearly 100-year-old Ward Parkway house got the quality, careful updates it deserves and, God help us, we preserved our cardiovascular health by not having to deal with your competitors. I wanted an outdoor space with privacy, but didn't know quite what I was looking for. Having known Tom forever, I knew he would come up with some great ideas, and execute them perfectly. He built me a beautiful deck for my house in Downtown Overland Park. About five years ago a neighbor's tree crashed through a good chunk of the custom panels and hand rails Tom designed and built for the deck. His crew quickly patched the deck, and you would've never noticed that the deck was ever damaged. Tom's attention to detail, creativity, and general kindness are best in class. Great guy and team.

Next to flawless. Professional craftsmen. I’ve used this local company multiple times because they are dependable, use high quality products, are impeccably clean and quick to resolve any issues. Also, the bid you receive is what you will pay 100% of the time, with the exception of any additional items you add during the duration of the project (such as a last minute decision to put on a new mantle in an adjacent family room which was actually something that I requested). The bids are accurate and include items that the homeowner may not take into account like the gas lines and such when you change from electric to gas appliances. They are each honest and trustworthy and appreciate your home and property. Also, as in my case, they will find a way to incorporate “special” decor requests-I had them incorporate an antique door and at the same time do it within the code guidelines. Everyone that enters my home compliments the attention to detail that Stumpff HomeWorks brought to complete our remodeling projects.

Tom and his team put in a full bathroom in our basement and helped us come up with a plan to finish the entire downstairs. He is a great communicator, and everyone on his team was very professional. He and his design assistant Jennifer, were a huge help with selecting materials and finishes. Our project was on time and on budget- no surprises! We are thrilled with the final product and will definitely use Tom on future remodel projects!

Stumpff Homeworks is everything you want in a contractor and more. Tom and Team did a fantastic job with the work we contracted them to do - Knock out a load-bearing wall and fix related flooring/electrical along with a few other electrical items. I have used a few contractors over the years and have all done good work but Stumpff was great and exceeded expectations. They were efficient with their time and made this project as small of a disruption as possible. The team also took extra care of daily cleanup to ensure my kiddos and such didn’t get in to something they shouldn’t which was much appreciated. Not to mention the remodel looks as if it was originally built this way! Tom came by often to check in on progress and his team was great and answered a litany of questions my wife and I had, I couldn’t recommend Stumpff more and will definitely be using them in the future.

There are not enough words to describe the experience we had working with Tom and his team from beginning to end of this project. From the very earliest stages of plan development and picking out designs and fixtures they were right there along side us providing insight into pro's and con's of every feature we were considering and being extremely patient as we went back and forth. I located Tom Stumpff Homeworks, LLC while searching houzz.com for a remodeler/contractor in my area to do a total remodel of my small master bath. Prior to meeting Tom, I had interviewed several other remodelers/ contractors referred to me through other venues and friends. Upon meeting Tom, it was absolutely clear, he was so much more than the others, in short, he is extraordinary. He is the ultimate professional: clear focus, active listener, and skilled in each and every aspect of the remodeling process and phases. The budget was adhered to rigorously by Tom. Payment deadlines were provided before any construction started, and he also reminded me of those dates ahead of time. If any changes or upgrades were made, I was informed upfront, and my permission was required to proceed. Tom was transparent about all costs. He gave wanted advice about various choices I needed to make, i.e. hardware, cabinet styles, fixtures, etc. Tom provided photos, ideas and suggestions, all which fit my style. He paid attention. Tom was always available and usually visited the site almost daily. He was a phone call, a text or an email away, and he was quick to respond. Tom is thoughtful, meticulous and detailed to perfection, and he expects nothing less from the team who works for him. Everyone showed such respect for my home and for myself. From the clean-up, the preparation for various workpersons entering my home to the effort made to make this remodel as "dustless" as possible, it all went far beyond what I would have ever expected. End result, my brand new bathroom from floor to ceiling, it's exquisitely beautiful! We could not be happier with the family room remodel that Stumpff Homeworks did for us. The superior quality and craftsmanship on every single aspect of the job was second to none. The job was completed right on schedule and we were kept apprised of what was happening every step of the way. I especially liked the excellent advice we were given by Tom and other members of his team and subcontractors. We get compliments on our room all the time and get asked quite often, "who did the work for you?" I highly recommend them and will use them for all of our future home remodeling projects.

Tom and his crew recently installed new kitchen appliances and rebuilt our outdoor wood deck. Also, in the past Tom constructed a new railing on our upstairs catwalk/deck. Instead of the usual vertical slats, he came up with a design that is both vertical slats with a lovely design in the middle of each section. We love it! To install the new stove a sliver of the granite countertop had to be removed. End result the installed stove looks great, fits beautifully! All the new appliances look great. Tom is easy to work with, is a good listener and responds quickly to questions or concerns.

Tom was excellent to work with in replacing a custom, unique storm and front door on my 90 year old home. He kept the integrity and character of the original door in the new more functional creation. Tom has so much patience and takes his time to give you a perfect, quality finished product. My house settles and moves from time to time, and Tom will come out and adjust the door slightly, as needed, to have a perfect shut. This is something we struggled with on our own for years with our old door. My dog even grew to love having Tom around. I caught him licking him on the Ring video doorbell one day while Tom just kept on working. I recommend Tom if you are a stickler for quality, beautiful work. He is good at what he does, trustworthy, and reliable. And your dog will like him, too.

Tom and his team are truly the best! We worked with Stumpff Homeworks in the fall of 2018 to renovate our kitchen and it couldn't have gone any better. Tom is prompt, courteous, tidy, organized, you name it! From the initial planning stages to making sure the kitchen was completed to our liking, Tom really went above and beyond. He was patient with our requests and really took the time to make sure things were just as we wanted. We had a very good experience working with Stumpff HomeWorks and will use the company again should we do more remodeling. The owner, Tom Stumpff, is skilled in Project Management, Design and Communications and has a strong network of competent subcontractors and material suppliers. Since our project would entail a complete remodel of kitchen, family room, sun room and guest bathroom, as well as modifying a load-bearing wall and replacing the flooring, we knew there would be a significant number of trades and material suppliers involved. Additionally, although we knew what we did not like about our house, we did not have a clear vision of what we wanted instead. We had talked in general terms with two other companies but did not feel they were up to the job. A recommendation to consider Tom came from a neighbor who had recently used Tom’s company on a bathroom remodel and who had known Tom for a long time. In our first meeting Tom answered all our questions, be they operational (how his company accomplishes their work) or legal (work permits, licensing, insurance, release of liens) then listened carefully as we described what we did not like about the current configuration of our main level. Tom told us he generally acts as both the Designer and General Contractor then offered a number of suggestions for us to consider. We soon decided that Tom had the skills set, connections and personality traits we needed for a successful project and asked him to proceed with a rough design and estimate. Tom arranged for the all the major subcontractors to visit the house (we appreciated that they all came on the same day) and after getting their feedback, developed a quote for the work that was within our budget. After a bit more project definition he submitted a draft contract and at our request included a listing of all suppliers and subcontractors and tied the payment schedule to getting a release-of-lien from each as well as his own company. We ended up with over 20 lien releases. Tom arranged and accompanied us on many visits to material suppliers. He guided our selection of colors and materials, offering his recommendations in an easy manner leaving us feeling free to disagree. The demolition and remodeling work took a number of months and we stayed in the house during this time. We appreciated that the workers cleaned up the site each night. A number of times during the project we had concerns about how things would turn out. We brought these concerns to Tom each time and either Tom or his very capable colleague, Gabe, promptly solved the issue (if it really was an issue…often they were still working on that part of the project). He demonstrated his open-mindedness by incorporating our suggestions where appropriate and feasible. It is obvious from the above but worth highlighting here that Tom communicated well with us during this project, that we are satisfied customers and that we have no hesitation recommending Stumpff HomeWorks.

Stumpff Homeworks, LLC has worked on three projects for my family: a master bathroom renovation, hall bathroom plumbing and drywall repair and the extensive renovation of my parents’ four-bedroom, split-level home which was damaged by water and mold. Tom was very thorough and upfront in his estimates. He explained the scope and costs of each project. His carpenter team of David and Gabe are skilled craftsmen who conduct their work in a clean, orderly and professional manner. The subs that were found are professional and just as skilled. The projects had their own challenges and frustrations (as home projects do); Tom handled them calmly and communicated solutions quickly. He is accessible and easy to work with. I appreciate the work SHW has done for my family. The quality and execution of work is excellent.

Tom Stumpff is the consummate professional, we have him on speed dial for any home project we consider doing. They pay attention to how you will use the space, problem solve when needed to make it work, and they pay close attention to detail. One morning I came out to find Tom sanding the custom front door they did for us for like the 10th time. I already thought it was fabulous, but Tom saw something not 150% perfect and he was not satisfied. I dare say we have the nicest front door in Overland Park! They are fairly priced for the quality of work they do, they stand by their product, communicate well, and are just plain good people. Finally— after a 3 year hiatus beteeen projects, Tom remembered my kids names as well as the dogs and 2 cats. Can’t go wrong with Stumpff Homeworks.

We really enjoyed our experience working with Stumpff HomeWorks. Excellent attention to detail, great design ideas, very responsive to emails/calls/questions, quality work, cleaned up job site well, rarely did not have someone here working on some aspect of our kitchen/family room/laundry/half bath remodel. We had work done in our kitchen, master bath, and powder room. At every step of the process, Tom listened and was supportive of our ideas and expectations. He also provided needed advise on ideas we were unaware of. He took careful notes, and provided us with a detailed plan and cost analysis for our project, and didn't try to push us to more expensive items. From the beginning he was present to supervise the work, and his two employees were excellent craftsmen. Each was polite and interested in doing the best job possible. Tom was also around to help. The job proceeded on time and without unnecessary delays. The workers he subcontracted to, were also very professional. We couldn't be more pleased with the results!

The Grand Ave bath is mine. It's beautiful!! Tom and crew were a joy to work with, I've never had workers in my home that worked as cleanly and neatly as they did. The attention to detail was most impressive, and last but not least, Tom was on the job until the last item on the list was completed. Very impressed and they are slated to do another bathroom for me after the first of next year. I'm excited to begin again!!

On May 10, 2016 we hired a company that had remodeled our master bath to our satisfaction, to now remodel our kitchen. We wanted the doors to our Golden Oak cupboards replaced with white ones and the cabinets were to be refaced in white as well. We were promised that the job would be completed by the end of June. One thing after another became a problem, communication was poor, promises were broken and after 5 months we terminated our relationship with this company. We invited three companies, two of which recommended, to take a look and see what they could do to salvage our remodel. Tom Stumpf of Tom Stumpf Homeworks was the only one of the three to make an offer. We were impressed with his knowledge concerning what could be done and how to do it to save our remodel. He seemed to be a very honest person and by the end of the job he proved us right. All of the doors and drawers were removed to be taken to the paint shop to have them sanded and then repainted with two coats of enamel. Roy, the paint boss, asked me to first choose the type of paint and the exact shade of white that we would like to be used. He knew a lot about paint and helped me to make a good decision on that part of the project. The refacing strips were caulked where necessary and then all of the reface strips were sanded so that you could not feel when your finger transitioned from one strip to another. Next the entire floor was masked to eliminate the possibility of paint damage. They also put up a temporary plastic "wall" that kept dust and most fumes from moving into the rest of the house. And lastly, a sticky back plastic was laid from the front door to the kitchen to protect the carpet. After carefully taping out all of the cabinet openings, two coats of the enamel were sprayed on the cabinets. Prior to painting they also installed a crown molding that was superior to what the other company intended and finished out the edges of the cabinets with appropriate molding or trim work where needed. Two drawer boxes that were in need of repair work were also taken care of. Once the paint was appropriately dry all of the hardware was replaced and the doors were rehung. We were asked to check it all to see if there were any pieces we would like to have sanded and repainted, which was done. Despite their best effort, some of the cabinet spray painting managed to get on the wall and soffit ceiling a little bit. So they asked if I still had paint for those two areas and in 45 minutes it was like new again and the mess was all cleaned up. Next all of the electrical was taken care of. We still had bulbs hanging by wires out of the ceiling since May. It was now Christmas. Installed were one flush mount kitchen ceiling light and four cans, and one sconce light in the 1/2 bath. We also had a ceiling fan/light mounted in the 1/2 bath ceiling and a new smoke detector in the dining room. Lastly, they finished removing the wall paper in the 1/2 bath and prepped the walls so they were ready to paint. I need to mention that they also carefully moved our large refrigerator into the dining room where it could be plugged in for continued use but still out of the way for the workers. Throughout all of this time Tom did a wonderful job of keeping me informed of who was coming, when, and what they were going to be accomplishing. He also appeared frequently to our job site to stay in touch with what was happening and sometimes rolled up his sleeves to to join the progress effort. It was a most pleasant contrast from our previous experience. The first company worked on our project just shy of 5 months. Tom and his crew came in and redid most of the work and completed everything in just 3 weeks. We were so pleased that we did hire his company to do some extra work for us that went on a separate bill. When all was done I told Tom that they had succeeded in taking our ugly duckling of a kitchen and turning it into a beautiful white swan. My husband and I would recommend this wonderful company to anyone who wants quality work done in a more than a proper amount of time. All of the employees were most pleasant and talented workers. They definitely earned all 5 stars from us!

Whenever someone asks me who did my kitchen or master bath, I refer them to Tom Stumpff. We used Stumpff Homeworks for a complete kitchen and master bath remodel. We also used them to put in all new hardwoods throughout the entire house and replace our doors and shutters. From start to finish they were professional, meticulous, and organized. They did a good job communicating with us throughout the entire project about each phase. And one of the things I must point out is their ability to contain the dust only in the work areas and how wonderful they cleaned up each day. I have a baby and this was something I was completely worried about. But Tom and his team prepped the entire house so that the walls and floors were protected. The Zip wall he puts up is pretty amazing. The fact that they take the time to do this before demo is fantastic! We could not be happier with the choice we made and the work they did. Hands down, they are a wonderful company to work with and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a detailed high end GC.

We could not be more pleased with the remodeling work Stumpff Homeworks did for us, which involved gel staining our bookshelves and wet bar, custom building a mantle for the fireplace, and painting the baseboards and the walls. Every worker was professional, arrived on time, kept us aware of the schedule, and did an excellent, thorough job. Tom Stumpff and those working with him were hard working, trustworthy, and terrific craftsmen.

We just completed a complete kitchen remodel with Stumpff Homeworks and could not be happier with the results. Tom and his team were consummate professionals from beginning to end. Among the highlights of our experience are: 1) Worksite behavior: Gutting the kitchen of a 90 year old house is a messy job, but I never found dust and debris outside of the work area. Tom and all of the subcontractors were always respectful of our space and our time. They were also very thoughtful. We had forgotten to take down the door frame where we had measured our kids heights before demo. Of their own initiative, the demo crew carefully removed and saved it for us. 2) Excellent advice: Tom was a great source of advice on design choices, paint colors and practical problems. He was patient and listened to our concerns and helped us find great solutions. 3) Attention to detail: In addition to making sure all the big pieces of the puzzle are flawless, Tom and his team notice and care about the little details, like matching the floor stain or making sure patched woodwork blended smoothly with the existing woodwork. 4) Reliability: As I mentioned above, the Stumpff Homeworks team was very respectful of our time. Tom shows up when he says he will, and did a great job keeping us informed about the project timeline and what subcontractors would be at our house. Stumpff Homeworks created a beautiful new kitchen for us and made the extensive renovations as painless as possible. We would recommend them without hesitation!

We just completed a major master bath remodel with Stumpff HomeWorks and I could not recommend them more highly. Tom and his staff are detail-oriented and very respectful of a client's space. For example, they spent a half-day covering the carpet on my stairs tarping off the room they were going to work in, etc. Very little dust or dirt got into other parts of my home during the 3 month project...I can't say I've ever experienced this from other contractors. In addition, Tom is a good communicator--telling me who was going to be out on the project and when and all of his sub-contractors were respectful, detail-oriented workers as well. My only hesitation in leaving this glowing recommendation is that Stumpff HomeWorks will be too busy to work on my next project!

I have enjoyed working with Tom Stumpff for a major bedroom/bathroom renovation in my home in the Spring/Summer of 2015. Currently we are starting another large main floor renovation project.
