Sun Design gave us the home we have always dreamed of and more! They are a fantastic company to work with and we consider them all great friends and neighbors now too. We bought a beautiful old house that just needed some love and updates and their amazing designers walked us through the process of building an award winning yet comfortable and welcoming home. The kitchen is the heart of the home when we are entertaining and so fun to cook in. The bathroom is like a spa experience every day and breathtakingly beautiful. They also gave us a movie theater, home gym, yoga room, art studio/office and much more. Everyone at Sun is professional, fun to work with, honest, and they honor their commitments. We cannot speak more highly of Sun Design. We have a small cape cod built in 1945 and wanted to open up our living room/kitchen space, and redo the bathroom, but we weren't interested in doing an addition. We also wanted to fix the stairs going down to the basement so they were no longer dangerous. This was no small project! It was a whole main floor renovation. The design team really listened to what we wanted and we worked closely together to come up with a design that fit our needs. Every step of the process was so well managed and every contractor that came in was professional, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. They communicated constantly with us to keep us abreast of any issues (which we really didn't have) and completed the project on time and in budget, as promised. We absolutely love our finished space, it's gorgeous!

Our new addition wouldn't have been possible without Sun's imagination and creativity.... They solved a host of design/budget challenges and we ended up with a beautiful, enjoyable space. Sun worked with us on every detail, their on-site crew and project manager were professional, capable and detail oriented. They ensured we were happy and satisfied at every turn.... Sun Design has been a wonderful, responsive company to work with. Five years ago, Sun Design did an extensive renovation to our 50 year old house, adding an award-winning outdoor living area. Recently, they quickly responded to our request for additional work to be done to enable us to put the house on the market. Maryam and Jeff are the best!

The design team was top-notch in helping us pick out the right tile, cabinets, and paint to make the bathroom pop. We've worked with Sun Design on two separate occasions - the construction of a detached garage/patio area and the redesign/conversion of upper floor bedrooms/closets. We highly recommend Sun Design. When we purchased a new home we were interested in a substantial kitchen renovation. From the first meeting we knew we were in good hands! We appreciated that Sun Design provided a one stop shop from their designers, to builders, to the warranty team. The meetings were fun and collaborative. We used Sun Design to convert our existing deck into a screened porch. The whole process was much easier than we had anticipated. The designer Maggie and the engineer Kacey involved us from the beginning. We created a Pinterest board with our ideas for the porch, and they used those in the design planning. They presented the design with several options - different roof lines, adding square footage, etc. - so we could pick and choose which things to include in the design. The construction process was led by Jordan, who was great about checking in with us and keeping us up to date. The crew did a great job of tidying up each day as well. We absolutely love our porch and absolutely recommend Sun Design for your home renovation projects!!

Sun Design did a great job throughout design and construction - listening to what we wanted and delivering on time. They developed creative solutions to design challenges. They were very professional and easy to work with. Jordan was a fabulous onsite manager. The construction quality is superb. Sun Design checked weekly on our satisfaction and always strove to improve or quickly correct any issue that came up.

Sun Design built a sunroom addition to our house in 2021. The new sunroom included Pella Lifestyle casement windows. In 2022, we decided to replace several other windows in our house to match the new Pella windows. We ordered the new windows through Sun Design and contracted with Sun Design to remove the old windows and install the new windows. We also asked Sun Design to build a custom window stool and apron that would provide decorative space where we could put plants and pictures. Jeff and Louis did a great job removing the old windows, rebuilding the framing and installing the new windows and sill. The project was completed quickly and the windows look great. I would like to recommend and thank Sun Design for the results of my Kitchen remodel. Mine was not an easy project as we worked with parts of the house that were built in the ‘30s and other parts built in the ‘70s. Add to this we were downsizing, wanted high quality, and had to accommodate todays difficult supply chain. Sun Design guided us throughout the design project and always kept us informed. We absolutely love our “new” house and highly recommend Sun Design for your renovation needs. We evaluated three companies and even though Sun Design was the most expensive, they stood out as a company providing quality results and great customer service. Sun Design did a major renovation that included a redesign of the entire main floor of our house, including our kitchen, foyer, laundry room/mudroom, and home office. They also renovated two upstairs bathrooms. Our project lasted 16 weeks and because we were living in our house throughout, Sun Design coordinated all work to make our house as livable as possible. This was the second major project that Sun Design completed for us and we have been totally satisfied with both projects. Their work has been superb. We knew we needed a larger space custom-built for our family now that we had decided to settle down in our neighborhood. Sun Design doubled our living space with a design we love. Our total home renovation by Sun Design was completed 3½ years ago, and we were extremely satisfied. We wanted to write a review for the work Sun Design has done SINCE then, to show they are a company that values their clients long after the project has been completed. Our three-year warranty period appointments with Sun Design were incredibly well done; the team is so organized and professional. As would be expected with a major home overhaul, we had small tweaks, fixes, and improvements that needed to be tended to during the warranty period and every one was executed to our satisfaction. In addition, we agreed to allow Sun Design to film a virtual tour in our home, and the process was a well-orchestrated and interesting experience, and we were very happy with the final product. We are thankful we found Sun Design back in 2017 when we renovated, and we are grateful it is a company we trust and will turn to for future remodeling needs!

We had a whole house renovation in 2011 which has held up to the test of time in the quality of work and the classic style we selected. Guests are often surprised that the remodel isn't a new job. Since our project, we have continued to rely on Sun Design's Forever Home Care program (with kudos to Maryam and Jeff for their quick response and ease of scheduling) for the occasional tweaks and repairs all houses need. Sun Design production and admin staff deserve our trust because they perform the job and treat our house as if it's one of their own.

Sun Design did a wonderful job fully renovating our unfinished basement, so we hired them again to renovate our outdated bathrooms. Once again, we were extremely pleased with their professionalism, creativity, and exceptional quality of work. Sun Design is impressive in many areas. From the start, they work tirelessly to make sure all details are secured before construction begins so that there are no surprises, and expectations are met. No one loves having contractors in their house, but Sun Design's contractors and sub contractors are truly a pleasure to have around. It is also impressive that the subs have worked for Sun Design for many years - the sign of a cohesive and respectful relationship which is rare in the industry. In addition, Sun Design offers a three year warranty on their work, and they are extremely responsive in completing "punch list" items. We have worked with other contractors in the past who seem to check out when work is almost complete. The final stage with Sun Design is always a pleasant experience, and they continue to return until the client is completely satisfied.

We worked with Sun Design for a whole house remodel. Erika and team transformed our "cookie cutter" house into a beautiful, unique home that delights me every day. SunDesign renovated our kitchen and master bathroom, added a closet to our den, and built a new fireplace for our family room. We are very happy with the results. Their design team spends a lot of with the client to understand their needs and develop a common vision for the outcome of the project. The designers offer constructive suggestions and, in our case, came up with an inspired plan to add a functional pantry to a kitchen that didn't appear to have room for one. They also provide guidance to ensure that finishes, paint colors, and hardware complement each other well. On the implementation side, SunDesign does quality work and stands behind it with a strong warranty. You could probably pay less, but we wanted a contractor that would handle the whole project from stem to stern with a minimum of hassle. We're happy we went with SunDesign, and we've been enjoying our new spaces ever since.

Undertaking a major renovation during a pandemic seemed unthinkable but Craig D. from Sun Design assured us that strict safety protocols were in place and would be followed closely by everyone involved in our project and by all workers entering our home. We delayed the start for several months during the early part of the Covid-19 outbreak which actually enabled us to refocus our priorities and to redefine the project, with a shift to make “aging in place” in our upstairs living quarters a top priority in addition to totally renovating our lower level to accommodate our large family gatherings. The project was completed in just under 6 months, on time and on budget. Sun Design exceeded our expectations! They are truly committed to excellence from the top down. In addition to their strong leadership, as displayed to us by Craig, the strengths of Sun Design include 1) an outstanding design team - Chris and Jenny - who consistently provided excellent choices within our budget based on our “inspirations” - Houzz was a helpful source for these. The design team listened carefully to determine our needs and desires and they demonstrated great flexibility and patience during the entire process. 2) We also had a dedicated and competent project manager in Jack who kept the trades on schedule and accountable and we were able to see the weekly/monthly schedule, the payment schedule and our progress with photos via an online portal that Jack updated regularly. 3) The excellence and professionalism of all the trades that visited our home during the project were above par. Sun Design has a collaborative relationship with these professionals most of which they have worked with for years so trust in all of them came easily. 4) in addition to the excellent work there is a 3 year warranty. We met the people from the warranty department at the final walk through and a “check up” visit for minor maintenance was scheduled for 3 months later. Bob snd I absolutely love our new living spaces - thank you, Sun Design for a long time dream come true!

It’s been a year since we finished our project with Sun Design and the space still looks amazing. Sun Design was wonderful to work with during the remodel project and has been just as wonderful afterwards. We’ve only needed a couple of small adjustments on some parts, but they still remember us when we have reached out and have taken care of us right away. They do quality work and stand behind it. In 2019 we began interviewing 3 design/build companies to add an addition to our 30-year-old home as our family had grown from 4 to10. It wasn’t something that we absolutely needed but very much desired. The three companies we interviewed were excellent but did not quite see our vision of what we desired. In 2020 we saw an ad for Sun Design. It reminded us of long ago when they were building in our previous neighborhood. The company was still in business 35 years later and had a great reputation. We called, setup an interview and although we were still concerned about committing to such a large project during the pandemic, we decided to move forward. While the project ran a couple months late due to supply chain shortages, our project manager kept us informed of any supply issues as they occurred and did a great job of dealing with the disruptions. We found the quality of both the Sun Design employees and their subcontractors to be top notch. Sun Design has completed two remodeling projects for our home. In 2014 they remodeled our kitchen and added a sunroom. In 2021 they remodeled all four of our bathrooms. We could not be happier with the results from both projects. In both cases, the designs and final results were beyond our original expectations. We had our kitchen remodeled in 2020 and we are so pleased with the results. Everyone who sees it also expresses how much they like it. We hired Sun Design to add an in-law suite above our garage. Our goal was to have the addition look like it was always a part of the house not added on. They certainly delivered, all our neighbors commented on it. Through the design process they asked questions that lead us to a design that also included a small mudroom and brought light into a darker room in our house. This was my first big project on our home and I had heard so many stories from friends of project miscommunications, timelines, errors with other companies. The professionalism and care this company takes is fantastic and certainly sets them apart. The communication was excellent. They always showed up on time, didn't add on extra costs as the project progressed, and monitored every trade they brought in. We have been a trade partner of Sun Design for more than 10 years. Sun Design is a solid professional organization that takes pride in their quality of work and the projects they take on. Their designers are talented, and project managers on top of their projects.

Even though it has been a number of years since Sun Design beautifully remodeled three bathrooms and our entire finished basement, we still frequently think about how much we appreciate and are enjoying those spaces. The project was featured in a local newspaper remodeling article, and was included in a local artists tour. We get to enjoy our amazing master bathroom every day, and the basement office / craft room has great cabinetry and a Murphy bed for added flexibility. Combined with the well-featured basement kitchen, family room, and exterior entrances, it makes a great place for visiting guests to have an area of their own. All the personnel at Sun Design are very nice, great at what they do, easy to work with, and good and transparent communicators. After some input from us, they helped us agree on a design, and then quickly narrow our selections for those items (cabinetry, trim, bathroom fixtures, marble, etc.) needed to complete the project. A great team.

We used SunDesign for a small remodel in 2015 (portico) and were so pleased with the results that we rehired them for a more significant renovation (addition, master bath, kitchen, patio) in 2019. You'll find SunDesign's commitment cannot be matched. Our designer Katie worked extensively to make sure we were completely happy with the plan and that it would fit our budget, before a single hammer swung. And our construction manager Owen smoothly managed every step of production as well. In fact, months after completion, when we had an issue related to a gas line, SunDesign stepped right back in to help us work with the utility and make SURE that the problem was quickly and properly resolved... at no cost to us! A large renovation is a major investment for sure, but we finished on budget and ahead of schedule. Highly recommend!

This was a long debated need to update my mid century modern because I didn’t want to take away from the classic architecture of this era and Sun Design did a wonderful job upgrading the kitchens and bathrooms while keeping the 1950’s flavor of the home. I spent lots of time with the designers giving them images from Houzz that expressed my design esthetic and they took those and ran with them. The result is a beautiful kitchen and wonderful bathrooms that make this an even more wonderful home. Only wish I hadn’t waited to move out on this!

Sun Design recently completed a renovation of our kitchen for which we could not be happier. They truly respected our home and were extremely careful during the deconstruction of the kitchen to protect the adjoinging areas of our home. They put up plastic sheeting with zipper openings so one could still navigate the area, but dust and debris remained in the kitchen area. Jamie the project manager consulted with us regularly to ensure that things were the way we wanted and his attention to detail was amazing. Sun Design was the perfect fit for our addition project! I would 100% recommend this company for your next renovation/addition project. When we met with Sun Design, we wanted an additional kids bedroom and kids bathroom to expand space for our growing family. We approached Sun Design with the idea to re-purpose the unused attic/roof space above our existing living room. Bob and Phil were incredible! Bob met with us for over an hour during our initial meeting to discuss the feasibility of the project and construction ideas/solutions. Our next step was with Phil. He came in to our home, drew everything out, and made the magic happen! He came up with an incredible plan to add a bedroom and bathroom, while maximizing the space. He even included an additional linen closet, and a floor to ceiling cabinet. Finally, Owen was our project manager. He made our addition dream come true! Sun Design makes you feel like family, and you can 100% count on them to make it happen with ease!

Our project consisted of a new sunroom addition, attached upper deck and lower deck with gardeners potting shed and refreshing of the kitchen and family rooms. We wanted a full season space with a cozy seating area and one that would accommodate every day meals, but large enough for larger family gatherings. Throughout the design, implementation and completion phases, our experience with the Sun Design team was easily a refreshing five-stars all the way, They also have access to five star third party contractors that can help with painting, wood refinishing, roofing, etc. At the end of the project, we truly felt like we were part of the Sun Design family. I work with Sun Design Designers and Project Managers on a regular basis as a vendor for stone countertops, fireplace surrounds, shower walls and other stone needs on an every day basis. Out of all the companies that I work with - the Sun Design team is always on top of their projects, timelines, paperwork and payments. Of course you want to have happy clients but you can tell a lot about a company by the way they interact with their vendors. Everyone on the Sun Design team communicates well and quickly. When we decided to stay in our existing home through retirement, we felt we needed to make some changes. We did a search of many companies to help us realize our goals. Sun Design truly listens to you and has YOUR best interest at heart. You are not just a project, they treat you like family. They respect you, listen to you; care about your goals and desires and help you reach them. They responded right away and met with us immediately! They made us feel like we were their top priority. We needed more space in the entryway, an actual mudroom and laundry room, and a screened in porch. Within 3 weeks they had the county regulations we needed to adhere to, complete measurements and 3D pictures taken of the whole house and the first round of 3 options of actual plans to look at! They schedule your meetings all the way to start of construction so you know they care of about staying on task. You also can email them any questions and they respond that day! We are scheduled for consturction in Nov 2020, giving us time to figure out exactly what we want. We started the first week in August and already we are ahead of schedule, that's how diligent they are to completing the project. We look forward to seeing the final product and living more comfortably in our home for years to come.

Since 2015, Sun Design has been our first choice for the multiple remodeling projects on our home. From the first moment we met with their team, we have been made to feel like family. We are so pleased with Sun Design that we have used them for 3 separate projects on our home, taking place over 6 years. Every team member displays care, concern and great skill, from the initial meeting to see the space and discuss ideas, through the entire design process and the actual construction. We worked with a different designer on each project, but each one showed amazing fluency in understanding what we were trying to achieve and the look we were after. The construction team is also a gem. We have had 2 different lead carpenters on the 3 projects, and I came to feel that both of them were family members. They are skilled professionals who really take pride in their work and treated my home as if it were their own. Now that Sun Design has renovated all 4.5 baths in our home, as well as enlarging our attic bedroom, and making modifications to our living room and kitchen, we wish we had more renovations necessary so we could have them back again!

When we purchased our house the one thing we knew was that the kitchen would have to be redone and fast - the problem was the house posed a challenging layout, we were juggling a toddler, and well we were in the midst of buying and selling and moving a house. Needless to say it was not going to be easy. After calling dozens of companies, and talking to at least half of them we got to Sun Design. Within an hour of meeting with Jon for the design consultation we knew we had found the company to do the work for us. Jon was eager to take on the challenge (lots of small rooms and best-case scenario an L-shaped layout to work with for a kitchen), presented not just ideas on design but also was able to talk function. Before the project even got off the ground we had to put things on hold and Sun Design was right there and ready to work with us. We got the sense it was not about getting the job started just to get the job done but to really work with us. Once the project started we had a great experience not just with the project lead (Brian) who we saw day in and day out. The subcontractors that came in to do some of the trade work were not only professional but also did quality work. When we ran into a plumbing issue that the home warranty company wouldn’t help with and we were told would cost many thousand dollars to fix… The subs from Sun took one look at the problem, made a joke about “lacking creativity” and explained how it was an easy to fix problem and had it fixed before the day was done and for about 1/10th the price the other guy was quoting. One would think that a job site would not be ideal for a house with a toddler and one would be correct - particularly when the project is a full gut kitchen renovation. But the level of effort put forth by the sun team to seal off the construction area and make modifications as needed left us feeling confident in our ability to survive the project with not too much concern. In the past when a renovation is done the company leaves the site and you never hear from them again. This has not been the case with Sun and it may be one of the most positive aspects of the experience with this company. If you are being realistic no project goes perfectly and as the seasons change things that were perfect after the last nail was hammered suddenly might not be. The Sun team has come out to do a routine checkup, and the warranty team reminds us time and again why we hired them to do the renovation. The work may be small projects but they area always done with professionalism and skill. At the end of the day we had a lot of options for a design-build company and Sun Design may not have been the cheapest but sometimes you really do get what you pay for. We look back on the project knowing that they were worth every penny spent, not only because the kitchen is beautiful but also because we had a team that we felt comfortable having in our home day in and day out for 3+ months, we have a team that supports us after the project is done, and everyone from the design team to the build team and the warranty team seams genuinely interested in exceeding expectations. tl/dr - If you are looking for a company to work with I would highly recommend Sun Design. You cannot go wrong with their skill from design to construction to support (warranty) after the project is complete.

Home remodels can be emotional roller coasters, but honestly, working with Sun Design there were only positive emotions. From beginning to end, they communicated with us, helped us through the many decisions, took the trust we placed in them seriously, and did an amazing job on all aspects of the project, definitely going above and beyond our high expectations. The entire Sun Design Team will always hold a special place in our hearts; they gave us a space our family can enjoy together for a long time.

We hired Sun Design for two separate projects about 2 years apart. The first project was a remodel of all the bathrooms in our house (4 full and ½ powder room), which included breaking through the Master Bath wall into a 5th bedroom and converting it to a large walk-in closet. The second project was a complete remodel of our kitchen which included some structural work to open up the kitchen to the family room. They were extremely professional to work with and we appreciated the time spent to help us with design considerations. They kept their work areas neat and tidy when they finished each day and kept us informed each step of the way. They were also very responsive and if there were any issues they were quick to resolve. We loved the finished product and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. They did such great work, that when we listed our house, we got a full price offer with 3 back-up offers waiting in the wings in just the first weekend we listed our house. I would recommend them without question.

Our project consisted of a new sunroom addition, attached upper deck and lower deck with gardeners potting shed and refreshing of the kitchen and family rooms. We wanted a full season space with a cozy seating area and one that would accommodate every day meals, but large enough for larger family gatherings. Throughout the design, implementation and completion phases, our experience with the Sun Design team was easily a refreshing five-stars all the way, They also have access to five star third party contractors that can help with painting, wood refinishing, roofing, etc. At the end of the project, we truly felt like we were part of the Sun Design family. Sun Design renovated our circa-1974 kitchen and incorporated the adjoining den so we could achieve a more open floor plan. While we were at it, we also had them gut and re-do our screened-in porch. Maggie Wills, our designer, went above and beyond in designing our project. Her advice and professionalism were greatly appreciated. We threw her a curve ball early in the process - we needed to figure out how to incorporate an 8-foot tall hand-painted menu sign from a favorite SC restaurant - and she did an incredible job figuring out how to have this as a focal point in a kitchen with 7'10" walls. The completed renovation is fabulous, and well-worth the 18 year wait.

Sun Design completely transformed our master suite. We went from a single sink/tiny shower to a double sink/double shower with separate toilet room and walkin closet. They also made updates to the home office and outdated staircase. Project included new master suite, lighting, heated floors, decorative moldings, pocket doors, cable railings, an open office space for a contemporary/transitional space. It's not easy to mix contemporary with transitional but Sun's designer Maggie was 100% open to all of my ideas and was able to bring them to life AND improve on them. Sun does things right, from permitting to lining up your floor tiles to create the perfect pattern. They care about the details and want you to be happy - after my project was complete a member of the warranty team came to do a walkthrough - he made a list of a few things to be "fixed" that I didn't even notice. That's proof though that they are proud of their work and truly care about the final result.

After meeting with multiple firms, it was clear to us that Sun Design was the best choice for design creativity, experienced workmanship, quality products, and strict adherence to schedule. The final product exceeded our expectations. Sun Design’s best resource is its people. From the owners to designers, project managers, carpenters and contracted trades, the Sun Design team was by our side and a pleasure to work with.

We hired Sun Design to remodel the kitchen, which is the main project. Our family room, laundry room and basement were also renovated at the same time simultaneously. The whole project took almost 3 1/2 months for completion. From the start to the completion of the project, we were very happy during the duration of the renovation. Sun Design provided great ideas from the beginning, during and end of the project including, paint colors and type of light fixtures etc. We had several meetings with the team to finally came up with the final concept and plan for the kitchen, laundry and family room. The team was very helpful in guiding and assisting us in the final outcome of the project. We are now enjoying the completion of all renovated rooms. Sun Design was recommended to us as a quality builder.. Sun Design provided an outstanding design interpretation of what we wanted as an addition. The coordination between Sun Design employees and us as the clients could not have been better. Our home addition (office space at basement level and L.R. extension above) had a project manager and lead carpenter assigned to handle any complaints immediately. The design outcome was beyond our expectations in excellence and quality of work. The residence was sold recently and the continuing remarks from the buyers were that the addition determined their decision to buy the same day they looked at the residence.

Love, love, love my new kitchen and laundry room! Sun Design remodels with professionalism. Their employees--from sales to designers to contractors--are a pleasure to work with. Project requirement-- To bust out the back of our kitchen 10 feet and redo the laundry room for more efficiency. We had major traffic jams in our kitchen and also wanted more space for entertaining since our dining room was used for other activities. Selection process-- We interviewed 20 different remodeling companies, scoured websites and talked to friends for reviews, worked with designers from several of our top choices, and then decided upon Sun Design. No regrets. Since I relied heavily on website reviews, I will try to provide as much detail as possible on our choice for Sun Design. Sales--worked with Roger and we liked him right off the bat. Some of the higher end companies I interviewed treated us rudely because we had a budget that was considered too low for them. Others only told us about their company's policies and history and marketing--and very little of what they would do for our needs. On the other end, we also had companies that came and took measurements and drew up plans that we liked, but then did not respond to our emails when we asked for more details. Or their plans were a little off the wall for what we wanted. Roger was responsive, assured us that Sun Design was able to meet the needs of our vision, and convinced us his company could do the job within the time frame and budget. This was a costly renovation and we were nervous that hiring the wrong company would be fraught with problems if it was not done right or if there were delays, etc. Roger's patience in explaining how the project would work and his persistence in calling us ultimately tipped our choice towards Sun Design. Design--Jon Benson is a thoughtful and careful designer. We had originally wanted to bump out 10 feet, but Jon came up with a design that widened the kitchen into the family room and raised the floor of the family room--something none of the other companies had addressed. This clearly created the solution for the space we needed. His placement of the sink, the stove, counterspace, the island, windows, etc., were worked through carefully with Roger and us. Roger tried to keep us close to budget, and Jon came up with the design that now makes my kitchen a great working space. We did have some serious doubts when Jon wanted to include two posts on the kitchen island. We elected to pay additional money to install a steel beam instead, as well as square off the addition. These two changes and raising the family room floor made us go over our budget. But overall, Jon’s design expertise was exactly what we needed, and his idea to widen alone, was worth hiring Sun Design. Little ideas like the window sill measurements, placement of trash and dishwasher and dish drawers now make a huge difference in how I work. Maggie was our other designer for the cabinet, countertop, etc. selections. She presented some good options but at the end of the project, I was a little disappointed with her work. One, because I felt like I was presented with a limited number of choices—she would tell me to go and shop for my countertop, and I would come back with 30 different choices and she would try and convince me to select two choices that were not on my list of what I had looked at by myself. And two, when I was still undecided about my countertop choice, she said that I had already used up my hours with her and that she would charge me an hourly rate for additional time that she would spend with me. Had I known that beforehand, I would have not had her work with my selections until I had narrowed down my choices. In the end, I have a beautiful quartz countertop, but I do wish I had selected something from my own choices. Construction—Lots of kudos here to the carpenters who worked on our kitchen: Jason, Greg, Bryan, Gabe, J.P., and others! They were highly skilled, detailed and careful with their work. Protections were carefully placed all around the house. We had two zippered doors for dust prevention. The dumpster sat outside our house for about a week and a half. Jason and Gabe demolished our kitchen; I was very impressed with their cleanliness and orderliness with which they carried out that part of the project. I was expecting lots of loud noises and messiness but they tore out the kitchen with very little fanfare. They saved some cabinets that could be reused and Jason carefully removed the fireplace mantle so that it could be reused and saved me money from having to buy a new one. After Jason left the company, Bryan and Greg took over. I was nervous about the switch in management, but the handover worked seamlessly and construction continued without skipping a beat. When the dust got to be too much, I requested an air filter machine and Greg responded in a timely manner and had one running soon after the request. It made a huge difference and if your project is going to be dusty, I would highly recommend requesting one early on in the project. Trades-- Most of the trades were professional and expert at what they did. The drywall company was amazingly fast and efficient. Little things would pop up, such as a messy electrician or plumbers who did not install things quite as exactly as I liked, but Greg would have it fixed or cleaned up within a reasonable time. Probably the only major inconvenience was the staining of the wood floors. The floor company did not get it right the first time, and after being out of the house for half a week, it was an inconvenience to move out again for them to restain the floors. On the other hand, the fact that they agreed to restain the floors since I was unhappy about them is, to me, another mark of professionalism. They were willing to redo the job until I was completely satisfied. Similarly, the company that did the tile had to redo the backsplash because the tiles were not laid straight. But again, they worked on it until I was completely satisfied. I don’t expect a job like this to go without bumps or hitches, and I was very impressed with the courtesy, timeliness, and willingness to take care of things that would come up. Greg was highly responsive and made sure that things went as smoothly as possible. He was into the details of things that I didn’t even consider and consulted with us on workmanship, schedule, cleanliness, and expectations. Amazing! Finishing: Greg built beautiful trimming around my kitchen windows and he and J.P. did fantastic molding work around the cabinets. Every little detail was squared away. Timing: The project was finished in a timely manner. We had a set date when the kitchen needed to be finished because we had a large gathering scheduled right before Christmas. When it looked like they were running behind, Greg did a huge surge and brought in a large group of workers and they completed the kitchen in time for our event! We were very impressed with the company’s concern for our timeline. Cost: Yes, people tell us that we paid more than if we had for another company. Perhaps if we compared materials and labor, that might be true. But there is a lot to be said for a company that is reliable, courteous, professional, and whose employees have integrity and respect for the customer. Knowing that we would get quality work and that our project would be done on time and that we would work with professionals with expertise—all of that was worth the extra overhead. Follow-up: Sun Design has follow up visits after the remodel is finished. They come to fix whatever it is that needs adjusting or caulking, etc. Overall--great company and we recommend them with the highest commendation. The employees are what makes this a great company.

We engaged Sun Design for a redesign of our front door and foyer, along with the addition of a portico. All parts of the process were seamless and focused on complete customer satisfaction. We considered several design options, at several different budget levels. The actual work was completed on time and came in at the expected cost. Overall we are very happy with the improvement to our curb appeal. The project included reframing the front door, electrical, plumbing, masonry, a new garage door, insulation, drywall, lighting, and exterior construction. The actual purchase of the front door we contracted separately, along with painting.

Sun Designs did a major renovation of my house in 2009, including a kitchen, two bathrooms, a laundry room, and a redesign of the all the spaces on our main floor. I was so pleased with the result and how they managed their three year guarantee that I hired them again in the fall of 2015. This time they did two bathrooms, the garage and various other odds and ends, including some outside work and replacing all the floor coverings in my lower level. The designers, Erika and Morgan were great. They continued to help me throughout the project after the initial design had been approved. Fahad, the project manager on site, did a great job. His workmanship, follow through, and flexibility were terrific. I can recommend them without reservation.

We've been going to Sun Design's open houses for several years, so we felt comfortable with the quality of their work. We had an ambitious project and worked through a design for an open-concept kitchen, basement remodel and sunroom addition. In the end we decided to sink the money into the kitchen, as well as update the windows and siding for right now. Our carpenter & project lead Kris Sampson and Mike Linder were amazing, and we were impressed with the quality of their work as well as the subcontractors they used. We're thrilled with how beautifully it came out. The design process started last December and construction started in March, with the project essentially finished end of June/early July.

In early August 2015, Sun Design completed the remodeling of my 29-year old kitchen and laundry room. At the beginning of the project, I was only going to have the kitchen remodeled. But after working with Sun Design's creative designers and being very pleased with their concepts for my kitchen, I decided to have Sun Design remodel my "barely functioning and ugly" laundry room. It was a great decision! I am so pleased with the results of both the kitchen and laundry room. I now have the gourmet kitchen of my dreams, which is truly beautiful! Doing laundry is no longer a dreaded chore, now that I have a very attractive laundry room with plenty of space and lots of storage, including a new butler's pantry. It's actually a pleasure to do laundry now! The workmanship of Sun Design's carpenter who headed up with project was excellent. All the subcontractors assigned to the project did excellent work and were courteous and pleasant to work with. The project was well planned out and everyone assigned to the project showed up to do the work on schedule. Special care was always taken at the end of each day to make sure that my kitchen and laundry room were kept as clean as possible during this major renovation, in which both the kitchen and laundry room were stripped bare, right down to the studs. i am so pleased with the results. I love my new kitchen and laundry room. The attention to detail, no matter how small, demonstrates the passion and excellence of the Sun Design team. I have and will continue to recommend Sun Design to others.

We used Sun Design to develop plans to renovate our mother's home when she started to have mobility issues and had decided that we would move in with her. As plans developed my mother's health started failing. Sun Design was extremely helpful in re-developing plans and was helpful with adapting with changes that started to occur as our mother's health started failing and eventually passed. We stuck with the project as we continued the plan to move in and also had to consider more drastic work since the house suffered extensive water damage when a pipe broke during severe winter freezing. Sun Design investigated the best way to deal with the situation and assisted with information that was needed to submit for the insurance claim. It was one bright spot in a very sad time for us that we knew we were working on the house that only our family had occupied for 50-some years and we could continue creating more family memories with Sun's help.

Beautiful work, respectful craftspeople who are dedicated to keeping the project on schedule, minimizing any cost increases, and keeping the work areas neat/clean. Definitely will hire them again. Sun Design is responsive to any warranty work needed, too, which gives us peace of mind.

We used Sun Design to refresh our townhouse in Old Town Alexandria. The work list included refinishing hardwood floors, painting many rooms, removing a closet and repairing the walls and floors in that area, removing several other closet doors to make a larger walk in closet, and a complete redo of the kitchen including new granite countertops and painting of the existing cabinets. The work at all points was outstanding. We were fortunate to not be in the house when the work was done, so it was completed fairly quickly and with minimal disruption to us. Our lead carpenter kept us very well informed of the progress and went out of his way to do small add-ons without nickel and diming us with change orders. That said, the total bill was expensive, but we got tremendous treatment by the entire staff, including the designers who helped us up front picking out colors and styles that worked within our budget.

Fantastic outcome! Did a complete remodel of the entire main floor (Kitchen, bedrooms, dining, added a full bath, living room, as well as heating & cooling systems). Sun Design provided exceptional service and the level of craftsmanship, service and design was simply the best we've ever seen. The design team gave us a lot of excellent advice and guided us through that process ensuring we fully understood what we were doing, the cost implications, and how it would look. Having an older home with a LOT of quirks and hidden issues, they showed consummate professionalism dealing with a myriad of issues, and all the trades involved were great to work with -- and did superior work. Once construction began, we quickly felt at ease and confident we could really trust them to do it right... and they did.

Soup to Nuts: We worked with Sun Design on a complete remodel of our kitchen and family room including movement of walls, laying out the space in a new way, and bringing the outside in. Their expertise in renovations to homes built in the last 50 years and in blending the old and new spaces impressed us. From soup to nuts, the Sun Design team was fantastic to work with and walked us through each step of the process. Their integrated team broke down a sizable project, that could otherwise have been very overwhelming, into digestible chunks. Their process from vision/bid to design, project management, and day to day interactions on site was well communicated, planned, and executed. They listened to us and worked in partnership with us to help us realize our vision. We especially appreciated their support in helping/encouraging us to think creativity. The Sun Design team made several critically important suggestions that made a huge impact on the project. My husband and I worked with Sun Design on a complete kitchen renovation for our 1991 home. There were several unique challenges including: shortening a wall, creating a pass-through on a load-bearing wall, closing an access doorway, relocating all of the utilities, expanding the electrical capacity and removing an intrusive bulkhead. Sun Design patiently worked through the design issues with us and the completed kitchen is everything we had hoped for. The construction team was always on time, cleaned and straightened up daily and communicated well. We highly recommend Sun Design and are discussing our next project with them.

Sun Design made the entire design process from creative to production to completion so doable and the results were amazing! They gave me a clear schedule of the entire project from the beginning and I was able to communicate clearly with my project supervisor without having to deal with the contractors. If you like to do negotiating and deal with contractors yourself this company may not be the way to go. You have a little less control of the dollars. But, as a full time mom with a husband that works odd hours, it was worth having thatl for a little bit more money to keep everything running smoothly and help with our sanity. I felt like they were always fair. My project supervisor was enjoyable and easy to be around and kept me informed of all the comings and goings. If I had issues or felt overwhelmed, he guided me with decisions and they were cleared up right away. I always felt like my needs as a client were being met. The project took a little longer than we wanted, a little over 3 months and it wasn't always easy living in a basement but it was so worth it. I now have a beautiful kitchen, mudroom and laundry room that the designers, interior designers and myself collaborated on. I liked making some decisions on my own and I felt like they allowed me to do that. I would recommend Sun Design to anyone looking at doing a large project that they want done right.

We used Sun Design for our basement. The process was excellent. You meet with the designers several times until all plans and finishes have been chosen. The price was reasonable for all the help they did planning our basement. The construction process with well done. Our project manager Mike was terrific. There was great communication and follow through on our concerns or suggestions He advocated for us when necessary. The finished project is beautiful and we are thrilled. Would definitely use then again.

After six months of researching home remodelers in the Northern Virginia area, we decided to contract with Sun Design. We live in a 4 bedroom colonial and wanted an open concept with a new kitchen. We based our decision to go with Sun Design on several factors such as affordability, quality of work. professionalism and experience of design team, friendliness of staff, and recommendations of past clients. We attended several of Sun Design's free monthly seminars that we found helpful in educating us in their remodeling process. In addition, we attended many of their Open Houses at local homes that Sun Design had remodeled. There we had the opportunity to talk first hand to the home owners and see the excellent quality of work. All Sun Design clients that we spoke to were very satisfied with their remodel and the Sun Design team. As far as cost, we gave Sun Design a dollar amount that we had budgeted for the remodel and they successfully stayed within those limits. We were impressed and delighted with all the checks and balances Sun Design provides to insure a quality product to the client. We were shown how to go online and create an electronic photo album of all the design features we wanted in the remodel. Then the design team used this album to build a 3-D model of what our home would look like when completed. Changes could be made right up until the construction started. This feature was very helpful in visualizing what the finished remodel would look like. Sun Design projected 2 months for the completion of the remodel and they met their deadline. The weekly walk throughs with the project manager were a great feature because we had weekly opportunities to see the progress of the actual work. We also appreciated Sun Design's 3 year warranty on all work completed in the remodel. Sun Design showed us that redesigning our existing space created better function, flow, and light in our home without adding more square footage. We love our beautiful kitchen, great room, and columns. And along the way, we made some life long friends from the Sun Design family.

Full service design and build firm. Worked very closely with me from start to finish. Many minds got involved on the project. It was a high end 6 figure kitchen job. They provide a 3 year warranty on all work. Very happy.

They were on time for the appointment and pleasant to work with however, it was not a good time for me to work with this company.

We had our kitchen/ family room remodeled to create a more inviting and open space. Christie Doeble, the designer was fabulous at listening to what we wanted (even when my husband and I had conflicting ideas) and incorporating our ideas into the plan. Our onsite contractor Kris Simpson was also very respectful of our needs with small children and dogs, and was very responsive when we had questions. The entire team worked together to make it a great experience, even when we had unforeseen issues with the house, they worked together creatively to solve any problem that arose. We now congregate more in this common area and we love how beautiful it turned out. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Sun Design renovated our 1970s 4-level split home a year ago. The entire process from design to demolition to construction to finishing touches was great. The project was completed on time. We are so happy with the end results!
