We provide service for all aspects of residential design, project advising and management – from details to site and home design. Bowerbird’s Michael Cockram has twenty three years of experience in architectural design. Michael’s professional experience began as an intern in the office of AIA Gold Medalist Fay Jones where he was immersed in the highly crafted architecture of an American master builder. Besides running his own practice for many years in Eugene, Oregon and Fayetteville, Arkansas, Michael worked as a designer and construction administration specialist for solar architecture pioneer L.M. Holder III in Austin, Texas. He writes about sustainable design for Architectural Record and other publications. Michael’s writing and research keeps him abreast of current trends in the green building movement. Michael taught as an adjunct professor of architecture and historic preservation at the University of Oregon for sixteen years. While at Oregon, Michael specialized in sustainable design and design+build projects.

Since 2001, the foundation of our work has been the design of private residential landscapes. The scope of our effort includes planting design, but encompasses much more. We masterplan, address grading & drainage issues, design driveways walkways, pools, fountains, porches, fences, decks, walls, & even landscape lighting. We help you with anything from the wall of the building to the lot lines, but the real benefit comes from the combination & integration of all of these elements.

SITE + CITY design laboratory believes that quality design should be accessible to all, that design should improve the lives of our clients, neighboring populations, and all user groups, and that the foundation for great landscape design incorporates principles of ecology, horticulture, geology, geography, art and architecture. Working within that framework, we address not only the needs and desires of our human clientele, but also those of local habitat, environment, and community. We create healthy, sustainable, and artistic spaces and experiences, whether working on a residential property, an urban in-fill project, a neighborhood park, or a large institutional site, aspiring to reframe existing assumptions of place and place-making.
