“First of all this review is long overdue, the only problem we've had is trying to stop enjoying our backyard long enough to come inside and take the time to write the review! The project was extensive and we basically gutted our entire front and back existing landscaping. This clearly would be a large project with lots of moving parts and dollar signs. We have high expectations with quality, work performance and sticking to a budget. I personally am a stickler with communication and trust. With all that said, our expectations were not only met but exceeded by all the professionals at California Smartscape. When changes came up, which they do as you start to see the design hit the dirt, they were very flexible and reasonable on design changes - we didn't feel locked into original design. We also had a pool done at the same time and they worked seamlessly with the pool subcontractors. We've had large projects on past homes and one of the first things we noticed right off the bat - the California Smartscape crew showed up every day, on time, and worked hard the entire time they were here. We were impressed with the hard work and dedication from day 1 until the project was completed. Even now, months after the project has been completed, if I have questions or notice something needs a little tweak - they are on it. Customer service is exceptional. One last note, our original backyard did not seem that big. After the new landscape design was completed, everyone including us, can't believe how big and spacious it is. Shows you how the proper design and use of your space can be life changing, we are constantly enjoying every inch of our outdoor space. Thank you California Smartscape!!!!!”

“We hired Jesse York to design the front and back yard for our newly constructed home in San Diego. Overall, we are extremely pleased with Jesse’s design and input throughout the design process. Jesse was highly recommended by one of our neighbors and we have since recommended him to other neighbors. Our design featured a pool, raised pool deck, BBQ area, custom water feature, courtyard, and semi-circular driveway. We also expressed extensive planting preferences and product specifications. Jesse was accommodating as to every element of the design. He looked at all the photos and clippings I collected and made valuable recommendations for achieving the same look at lower cost. The first design he delivered was spot-on to what we had asked. Of course, we were not as happy with the functionality of that design as we initially anticipated and requested that he materially change the back yard. Jesse delivered a new design within several week and we were thrilled. I found Jesse’s 3D software to be very helpful in reviewing plans, before creating actual build-out blueprints. And it was very easy for Jesse to make minor changes when we requested--while meeting with us--so we could immediately see the effect and decide if this was something we really wanted. The other great benefit of working with Jesse was that he was proactive in establishing relationships with our HOA and the local fire department. He knew our Architectural Guidelines in and out and had studied the approved planting list before we could even provide a copy. As a result of Jesse’s experience, relationships, and knowledge, our plans were approved on the first submission, while many of our neighbors struggled for months to revise their plans to suit the HOA’s preferences. I’m also extremely grateful for Jesse’s efforts to design within budget. Having a masterpiece on paper that you cannot afford to complete is frustrating and forces you back to square one on the process. I outlined my budget to Jesse in the first meeting and although the bids we collected varied widely, numerous reputable contractors came in within 10% of the mark we established with Jesse. Jesse was further helpful in reviewing the bids and advising us how we can save money through material substitution without sacrificing the overall look and design. He also took the time to educate us about various contractors and how the landscaping bidding and build-out process worked in our area. For all these reasons, we were very satisfied with Jesse’s work and have recommended him to others.”

“We recently completed a landscape redesign around our home using Revolution Landscape, and we could not be more pleased with the results. The entire process, from initial concept through completion, was very enjoyable and the owners and staff are just stellar. The front yard design is water-wise, clean and contemporary as requested. Although the backyard was more complex, Revolution handled the challenges well. Our backyard wishlist involved removing a very old concrete patio that was draining towards the house, making a dog run on the side of the house using existing stepping stones/pebble already on site, building raised beds, incorporating 5 existing fruit trees and an ill-placed cabana structure into a water-wise, sustainable but aesthetically pleasing yard/garden for us to enjoy. Julie's design was extraordinary, with a natural-appearing meandering rock "riverbed' focal point that receives water from the roof/drains so that water returns to the water table instead of running down the street. (The front and back landscape handled the downpours of a few weeks ago w/o a problem; the river and its deep underground well handled all the water w/o difficulty. There was no silting or loss of soil anywhere.) The final design includes a small rose garden and grapes to grace a sideyard fence. The yard is already beautiful and it is just starting to grow in. We've received many complements on the project from passersby. As with any construction project, there can be changes of mind or unknown complications that suddenly appear. Jeff and all staff people were very receptive and responsive to changes. All changes that required an upcharge or resulted in savings were clearly discussed. Change orders were reasonably priced. Plants that were not used, either due to lack of space or poor quality, were not put in. Revolution is clearly concerned with the client's wishes and will do a careful, very aesthetic and environmentally sensitive job. We are having Revolution perform maintenance on the project for a few months until the garden settles. Jeff and Ari are clearly knowledgeable about plant care and soils, and we intend to glean all the information we can from them and the maintenance staff. We would not hesitate to use this company again for a landscape project.”
