Sculptural Firebowls handmade by artist John T. Unger are luxury fire features valued for exceptional craftsmanship, beauty and design. American made firepits, hand cut from recycled steel, John T. Unger’s Sculptural Firebowls have been featured in The New York Times, HGTV and DIY Network. The power of fire and the strength of steel fused in elemental elegance to create sculptural fine art reborn from the ashes of industry. I make sculpture from scrap industrial steel, cutting by hand with a plasma torch at 45,000° Farenheit. That’s 4.5 times as hot as the surface of the Sun or the Earth’s core. Since I first created the Great Bowl O’ Fire in 2005, my art has set the world ablaze— I’ve shipped over 1600 firebowls to 50 states and 15 countries.

Dear John --- Just wanted to let you know that I received my 37" Big Bowl O Zen firebowl and must say it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I couldn't be more delighted with this piece which seems like it was designed specifically for my home. An amazing piece of living art. A thousand thanks --- Kamran (Toronto, Canada)

John's work is not only gorgeous, he's a pleasure to work with. He answered my emails quickly, professionaly and warmly. I was very impressed with both the quality of his work (our firepit is gorgeous) and the quality of his customer service. I can't recommend him highly enough.

We contacted John Unger when we were completing a renovation of our backyard in Redlands, California. With the hardscape and most of the landscape complete, we were looking for just the right accessories to set things off. We love and appreciate artisan-made items and when we saw John's fire bowls we knew one of them would be perfect for the space. We chose the "Great Bowl of Fire" and were very pleased with John's efficient response and prompt delivery. His artistry has enchanced our outdoor space and brings joy every time we sit beside it.

I purchased a 30" Waves of Fire sculptural firebowl from John in 2010. It looks stunning next to my patio and pergola.

Placed an order for the King issoceles 37 inch firebowl and am extremly pleased with the quality, craftmanship, and timely delivery. This was an exceptional addition to our back patio area, which has caught the attention of neighbors as well.

Commented: Rust?My Firebowls are designed to last for 100s of years with a rust patina. The steel is a quarter inch thick (about ten times thicker than mass produced fire pits you see in stores). The rust forms a pro...

Commented: Outside firebowlThe heat barrier does not need to extend to the edge of the bowl, just a few inches larger than the base should be fine if using standard yellow fire brick.

Commented: Trex deck?Hi Jennifer, No firebowl or fire pit should be placed directly on a trex deck. The best way to insulate a deck when using a firebowl is to make a small square of firebrick to set the bowl on. That'...

Commented: Does it burn wood?Once the patina develops over the first few months, the rust forms a protective coating preventing air from further oxidizing the metal. All things must eventually cease to exist, but the heavy steel ...
