4100 I: The good; this wood insert's best feature is the look. I looks like a real fireplace and is attractive. The bad;(12 yr old) pain to get it going, have to leave the door opened too long, very dangerous. baffle board and blanket cannot be removed without breaking into pieces and is very expensive. Door handle very flimsy and crumbled in my hand, had to be replaced twice. fan and motor is quiet for about 4 months. It gets so loud I have to blast my tv to hear it. fan lasts about 2-3 years only( cost $200 to replace) I've bought 2 replacements because I cannot afford to keep replacing it. I finally found to blow it out with air & white lithium spray grease will quiet it for about 2 weeks. Only heats my 800 square foot house if I keep in cranked up full and put wood on it every 2 hours. Wish I bought a Lopi or Regency. Do yourself a favor and buy a wood stove with no blower and 6 sides of radiant heat. it won't look as nice but will heat your house with no further investment and maintenance other than cleaning chimney.

Commented: Hi, I'm looking for advice on buying a wood fireplace (not an insert). It depends on what's most important to you Patricia! It sounds like you love the traditional experience of a wood burning fireplace, but a gas fireplace is much more efficient.
