S & J Biren Floor Covering

I needed to replace the carpeting in my elderly mother’s apartment in a senior living facility. The facility’s maintenance person recommended S & J Biren. I called them and they referred me to Jill, who had worked with residents at the facility before. I spoke to Jill and told her what I had in mind and I was especially concerned that her installation people would be able to move my mother’s furniture out of the rooms because neither she nor her caregiver could do it. Jill assured me that they would take care of it. I then went over to see some samples and she had them already ready to show me. I took the ones I thought would work best to show my mother and Jill sent someone over to measure my mother’s living room, bedroom and closet. After my mother decided on one in particular, Jill sent me an estimate, which seemed fair, especially since it included the moving of the furniture. Jill said it would take about a week to have the carpet shipped from Atlanta, and we scheduled an installation for two weeks from that day to allow for any delays. I confirmed everything with Jill the day before the scheduled installation and her guys showed up on schedule that day. They worked fast and were done quickly. After they left, my mother noticed two small spots on the carpet in the bedroom, so I immediately contacted Jill and she arranged for the installers to return and take care of the spots. They were there in less than an hour, and everything was fine. My mother is very happy with her new carpeting, and I’m so grateful that Jill made the experience so easy and painless. I would definitely recommend S & J Biren to anyone looking for carpeting or other flooring for their home. Their service is top-notch.

Once i selected the carpeting, Jill Hankoff at Biren Floor Covering made everything else go like clockwork, measurements taken, dates set and information provided. Most importantly, I like my carpeting! The installers were skilled, accommodating and did a great job. It's again a pleasure to walk barefoot on the carpet.

Jill at S&J Biren came on a recommendation from our interior designer. I called her on a Monday asking her to help us get materials ordered and installed by the following Thursday. My husband was searching for carpet companies and found S&J Biren to have great reviews. I called and scheduled an appointment to come in. From the very beginning I loved working with JILL. She was super informative and had a great amount of expertise. She took careful notes as we talked, and listened with care so she could make recommendations based on what we wanted. When our carpet and our custom rugs came in, we scheduled the installation and were glad to see there was a large crew. They were efficient and very tidy. When we saw the finished installation we were thrilled. My husband read through many sites and reviews, and everyone says having a good installer is super important. We're so glad we went with S&J Biren and their installer - total five stars plus plus! In the renovation world - when something goes perfectly and it turns out perfectly, it's worth recommending to other homeowners!!

I highly recommend this company for all flooring needs. I especially recommend Jill Hankoff. I got carpeting from her. She was the only totally professional sales person I met in my search for carpeting in Los Angeles. To begin with, even before I went to her store (by appointment only due to Covid), she asked for photos of the rooms to be carpeted. She offered great design suggestions beyond just carpeting. The store's inventory is top notch and much more extensive than any other store I had visited. Jill took a lot of time with me, pulling out sample after sample. Once I found what I felt might work, she ordered larger sized samples. I went back several times until I found the right carpeting and Jill was totally fine with that. Here is what she did not do: She did not pressure me in any way. She did not "offer" to take measurements of my rooms, which is a salesman's trick: if they can come to your house to do measurements, then you will feel more "obliged" to use them, even if they don't have the right flooring. When it came time to order the samples, she had them shipped directly to my house, unlike the other stores which required I come back to them to pick them up. A large portion of this store's clientele are designers who are used to being treated professionally. This store is not, however, a wholesale only store. I am not a designer and was so thrilled to have received such professional service. Finally, I am extremely happy with the carpet. It is exactly what I wanted and looks fabulous.

She helped me with selecting the color and style for two custom-cut area rugs, and offered suggestions re adding edging, trim, a border, and other alternatives. My only complaint is that the stores hours are not convenient for someone who works full-time, and not in the same area of town as S&J Biren.

This is more than simply the finest carpet and flooring store in Los Angeles. It is the model for every type of business that we all wish we could find - and rarely do these days. Biren has a commitment to customers, first and foremost. They really want to help you find what you want and need - not just what they would prefer to sell you. They have such extensive experience, that they see the best and most economical way to serve you. This is in addition to a very wide range of products to choose from, and extensive knowledge of the materials and how they fit your needs. We spent a lot of time with other carpet stores in our area. They all measured the needed carpet in a direction that would leave us with a very large remnant, and a waste of money. Biren looked at the same diagram, turned it around, and showed how the material could be cut with almost no remnant (to pay for and put in storage), and saved us the cost of many square feet of carpet. We later referred our neighbors to Biren, and they also came back raving at the professionalism, and thoughtful response to their needs. I can't think of a better, more satisfying, and effective company to do business with. I would recommend S&J Biren overwhelmingly to any prospective customer.

We spent a great deal of time perusing the samples for a stairwell carpet project with Jill Hankoff and she was most helpful. A number of samples were sent to the house so we could "picture" them within our color scheme. After making our selection, we followed up and made an appointment with the installer. He was FABULOUS...so fastidious and careful in measuring, cutting and installing the carpet. The task was not an easy one but he was very patient and meticulous. S & J Biren's professional staff provided us with high quality service and excellent advice. Jill and Barry (our installer) also came to our aid when issues came up with our remodel. The inspector questioned the waterproofing that was done, and was on the verge of requiring us to pull up the entire floor. They both provided written and verbal support on our behalf, which resulted in our passing inspection without the need to do further work. We made the choice to use a flooring company with excellent service and quality products, even though we might have saved a few dollars by going to a big box home improvement store and hiring a handyman. In return, we got a beautiful floor that was installed perfectly -- and the professional support that ended up saving us what could have been $2-3,000 in additional work.

This is an excellent floor covering establishment. They have a HUGE selection to choose from, at all price ranges. Jill was especially helpful in guiding me through the varieties of carpets and pads, with their respective pros and cons. I may add that the installers were very easy to work with, courteous, and very helpful in restoring the room to its original state. Our home was ready for new carpets and I was interested in natural fiber or a berber style carpet. I read great reviews on S&J Biren Carpets online so I stopped by their showroom. The team was terrific from start to finish. I worked with Evan Biren who was very gracious with his time and expertise. Evan's family has owned and operated Biren carpets for more than 70 years; their extensive knowledge of products, technical considerations and installation was apparent at every step of the process from selecting carpets to installation day. We carpeted two bedrooms and an office, which each had tricky transitions at the doorways. Evan and his team were diligent on planning and addressing the transitions; taking photos of exposed flooring ahead of installation so they could plan for necessary materials and, on the day of installation, trouble shooting several unexpected issues with underlayment. They took the time to expose these issues and help us resolve them at no additional cost, it's just part of their standard practice...of excellence. Pricing was transparent, installation was a dream, and Evan counseled me on the best carpet to suit my needs never pressuring me toward a particular product or price point. While I ended up with a high grade nylon carpet (best carpet choice for our house with active doggie and sun exposure, thank you Evan) working with Biren Floor Covering I knew I could trust I was getting highest quality product and a terrific value on price. I am an interior designer and will definitely be referring clients to Biren for all floor covering needs. Simply THE BEST carpet showroom in Los Angeles!

Fantastic Company! I was looking for a very special wool carpeting without chemicals and they were very helpful in finding some beautiful carpet for us.. We carpeted over 190 sq yds and the house looks amazing. The quality is also exceptional. The installation went as planned and we are extremely happy with the end result. S & J Biren installed the carpeting at my home in Santa Barbara back in 1991. The owner (Eric) was such a pleasure to work with, and his company did such an outstanding job...that 26 years later (!) I went back to them when I needed a runner for the stairs of my newly remodeled home - I didn't even bother shopping anywhere else. Eric is still the owner, but this time I dealt with Jill...and she made the whole process easy and fun. She spent an hour laying out on the floor different samples that she thought might work for my project. With her knowledgeable and enthusiastic help, I was able to choose six possible designs - and samples of all six arrived in the mail within a week. Once the carpet I'd chosen arrived at their warehouse, two of her installers drove the 100 miles from LA up to Santa Barbara and spent the day cutting and installing the runner up four different flights of stairs...by the end of the day, the job was done and it is both flawless and fabulous. A few days ago, we had an old, 1950’s linoleum floor taken out of our guest bathroom, and replaced with a brand new one put in by Angel and his helper from S & J Biren. They worked meticulously, and the finished product was PERFECT (attested to by my perfectionistic husband). We were thrilled, and don’t know why we didn’t have the flooring replaced MUCH sooner. What a wonderful experience with Jill and S&J! We needed carpets for our office redone quickly and she came through brilliantly. We picked up samples to match the color we wanted, ordered them the next day, and within a little over a week they were installed. Jill communicated with us throughout the process, giving updates as we went along. They were able to remove our old carpets, take out the furniture in the room, install, and replace the furniture. we just redid the carpeting in our master bedroom and adjacent "indoor balcony like space". we did our daughters bedroom, guest bedroom and my home office several years ago with S & J Biren and Jill Kimmel-Hankoff of that company both then and now -- I wish i could give them 6 stars -- Jill is incredible -- she spent so much time with us and satisfying what seemed like our insatiable appetite to order and review samples to make sure we were happy with our selection for the master bedroom (we are thrilled with it). We do both Commercial and Residential projects, and they are able to handle the unique complexities of both these types of work. Evan cares that each project uses the best possible product for its unique needs, and he sweats the details as much as I do, knowing that is what separates satisfactory from stunning. We have very long term relationships and do multiple projects with most of our clients. Evan keeps meticulous records so that years later he knows the product and sq footage that any given project required, making replacing or updating areas seamless. Talking of seams, he always provides me with a seaming diagram so together we can ensure that they are minimized and fall in the least visible places. The most beautiful product will only look good if the installation is superior, and we can always count on that with S & J's crew. On the rare occasion that an issue arises, it is always dealt with promptly, professionally and to everyone's satisfaction. The scope of our projects would allow us to work work with any vendor, but our first choice for carpet and rugs is always S& J Biren.

S & J Biren and, in particular, Peggy, are a pleasure to work with. We needed to replace an old carpet but had a deadline plus wanted the new carpet to be as close in color and quality as possible to the old one. A Paradigm floor was installed beautifully in my brand new studio. The contractor accidentally left an exterior drain pipe covered up which resulted in a massive amount of water collecting on the roof and ultimately seeping over the flashings and into the room below. To my utter delight, the pool of water on the Paradigm floor caused NO damage at all. This flooring is advertised as water proof - and it is! We went to Jill of S & J Biren Floor Covering for two reasons. First, we needed to replace our old closet carpeting - we wanted a rich color rather than the grey color we had and which showed dirt so easily. Second, carpet in our den that we had purchased with her help and advice about 5 years ago was no longer getting clean and we thought we needed to replace it. Jill helped us find new closet carpeting in a lovely brown that looks great! I had the best experience ordering new carpet for our master bedroom, dressing room and 2 closets. Jill was the Biren Sales Associate who assisted me and enabled me to find exactly what was needed for our home. I wanted to duplicate the same color as the jade carpet which was installed about 10 years ago. But Jill met with us, stay with us and a bit late if we needed. It is at times confusing to buy carpet -- especially when there is so much to choose from. I browsed the products in S & J Biren, and was very impressed with the quality and quantity of their carpets. Jill Hankoff was our salesperson.
