Uptown Floors

In 2019/20 we undertook a complete gut and remodel of a home we had recently purchased. We did not want to spend the time and money that a finished in place wood floor would entail, but months of searching had produced no engineered wood flooring choices which matched our requirements for wood dimensions, wear layer, and finish. I’m not sure how I stumbled on Uptown Floors, but after spending some time on the website it looked like their product checked all our boxes except that I was going to be making a significant purchase online. I had several conversations with Ken and, per his suggestions, ordered a number of different small samples. The samples themselves spoke to the quality of his flooring. When I’d settled on a couple of colors he walked me through all the other choices and then I purchased 3 large samples. We ordered approximately 2600 sq. ft of 5 ¼” of Rustic Charm Rocky Road in a smooth finish and some custom reducers. Ken was very precise in letting us know exactly what to expect concerning delivery time, amount of space we’d need to store the delivered flooring, time we needed to let it sit in the house before installation (we live in Arizona where it’s very dry). Our installer who had done previous finished in place floors for us was very, very impressed with our choice. The installation was trouble free and swift. 4 ½ years later I know this flooring was the best material choice we made for our home. We live with 2 60 pound dogs who have the run of the house and our floor still looks almost brand new. A good vacuuming and Bona mop is all it needs to bring it back. Our buying experience and product were both deserving of more than 5 stars.

Our floors are beautiful. We got Rustic Charm Sand Drift clear and it was exactly what I wanted. Light, clean, modern. Ken was responsive and helped me understand what I wanted out of all the choices. One piece of advice for delivery, make sure you have at least 3 strong people to help unload the truck. We had the help of 2 contractors and my husband. I thought I’d be able to help, but it was too heavy for me.

I am a repeat customer. I can't say enough about how great it was to work with Ken and the real quality of his product. We've purchased almost 8,000 sq. feet of engineered unfinished wide plank, clear white oak. My floor finishing guys were a bit reluctant to work with an engineered product, but were immediately converted when they saw how little sanding was required with this product. They said it was the easiest floor they ever finished. On our most recent project we had a little communication error with the GC and the actual order didn't get placed in time. Ken went out of his way to match us with available product and expedite the shipment to keep our overall project on schedule. I highly recommend Uptown Floors, both for the quality of their product, and the great customer service they provide.

We love the quality of the flooring! We purchased ~ 1400 sq ft the Red Oak Reserve in a clear finish and it looks great. Our installer who has been doing floors for 30+ years also commented how good the finish was and also the length of the pieces - not may shorts and plenty of good long pieces. We're very happy how it came out and would definitely recommend their flooring.

We had a little over 1,100 square feet of the Country Lifestyle Rippling Stream engineered random width (6 1/4", 4 1/4" and 3 1/4") flooring installed to replace dated oak hardwood and carpeting as a major part of our home remodel project. We extensively searched hardwood flooring options for months and visited many hardwood stores in our surrounding area. One of our requirements is that we wanted flooring sourced from and made in the U.S. Finding a quality product in a multi-toned and hewned finish that also offerred a random width option turned out to be an arduous task. When we stumbled across Uptown Floors, spoke with Ken and received a sample of the flooring, we knew we had found everything we were looking for. We live in Wisconsin, and the Uptown Flooring almost seemed to good to be true after all the searching we had done. I'm not going to lie and say that we weren't hesitant to place such an expensive order on-line without being able to walk into a store and talk to someone face to face with knowledge on the product or to get a first hand account from people that we new and trusted that had installed the flooring. Delivery day was a highly anticipated day and we were incredibly relieved to see the quality of the product. It's absolutely beautiful flooring!!! We shared samples with a few flooring store owners we were dealing with and they all commented about what a high quality product it appeared to be - some even wanted to find out if/how they could distribute Ken's flooring. Our installer said that it was the best hardwood flooring product he'd ever installed in all the years he's been installing floors. We had no issues with any of the boards which our installer said is incredibly rare. We're beyond pleased with the end result - it's absolutely beautiful!!! We're so happy we purchased our hardwood flooring on-line from Uptown Flooring! Honestly, don't hesitate to buy this flooring; you will not regret it!!!

We had a horrible experience with Uptown Floors. If you are just purchasing flooring and do not need a lot of custom elements, then they are a decent option if you're wiling to wait the lead times. However, if you need custom components (nosings, stair railings, treads, etc), then I would strongly advise against working with them. Our design required a lot of these custom stair components, and Ken was not easy to work with due to the following: - Long response times - Does not clarify what can be manufactured - Often changes quoted prices, to the point where it's like a bait and switch situation - He does not coordinate well with his manufacturing partners and does not pay attention to detail. - Poor customer service is provided. Hangs up on you when you are reporting an issue with your order There were many details to our design, and despite weeks of clarification and providing several drawings, manufacturing was still done incorrectly. Even the stair handrail, which was not a custom design but rather a profile that we picked from a list provided by Ken, was incorrect. The lack of quality control and verification with orders is surprising. When we reported all of the issues with our order, Ken only grew frustrated with the situation and refunded us, not offering to provide replacement material. This will cost us weeks of delays and thousands in extra costs as we search for another fabricator for the stairs. You should look elsewhere if you want to work with someone that actually cares about helping you finish your project. Update: Uptown Floors did provide an extra refund to help with some of the costs associated with our delays, which is appreciated. However it is still disappointing that Uptown would not work with us to get the correct replacement material.

We worked with Ken to find the perfect color hardwood floors for our renovation (1400sf). We selected a custom color since I wanted a warm grayish/brown tone. He sent us samples of different boards with and without character and some with the knots filled and some without. This was really valuable for us in selecting the exact look we wanted. The floorboards are such remarkable quality. We had several installers ask where we got the floors from because they were amazed by the high quality. We installed the floors ourselves and were so please at how precise each board was. The finish is so beautiful and has held up incredibly well. We do not have pets but many visitors do not remove their shoes and I’ve dropped things but there is no evidence of scratches or indentations. The finish has a satin look which I really love. I cannot express enough how strongly I would recommend these floors to anyone considering hardwood flooring! Plus Ken is amazing to work with and was so very helpful throughout the process. We purchased 825 sq. ft. of Uptown Floor’s Rusty Charm Rocky Road engineered hardwood flooring. All of the carpeting in the house was replaced with this wood. Ken was very helpful in this purchase process and answered all of my questions and concerns. I chose the clear white oak lightly brushed finished. The installers complimented the quality of the engineered hardwood when they finished on the last day. They stated that this engineered wood could easily be refinished as many times as solid hardwood. My wife and I could not be happier with the floor - it is beautiful. We are recommending Uptown Floors to our friends and neighbors and I am not normally inclined to make recommendations.

I bought a hardwood maple floor from Uptown back in 2016. So far, it's holding up well and it looks great. There are a few little spots in the kitchen where the finish has come off, but it's a vacation rental so people are less careful in general, and kitchen floors take a beating no matter how well you treat them, so I can't complain about that. When I spoke with Ken before purchasing, we were concerned that humidity could lead to cupping. This could be a reason to choose engineered over solid as I recall, but it hasn't been an issue for me. I called Ken today to ask about cleaning up some of the areas that have developed normal wear and tear. He was helpful and pointed me in the direction of a product that would work for what I want to do -- "tykote" made by Basic Coatings. Thanks for everything, Ken!

my wife and I built a house about a year ago and we needed good flooring that looked nice. I researched and visited flooring outlets for months. I’m not sure how I stumbled on uptown floors, but I can honestly say I am glad that I did. Their price was way less than what I grew accustomed to while searching for hardwood, and their engineered product was way better quality. Towards the end of the home building project , a mills works retailer visited our home and asked why went with uptown floors, I showed him a flooring sample and he immediately said “ I get it”.

After extensive research for our new house build, we found Ken and Uptown Floors. What a superb find! We enjoyed watching the many videos Ken has made of his products and manufacturing processes. We had to smile over the "floor level gizmo" Ken created for each of his flooring show and tells. And if one is still in doubt what color/styles to choose, the actual samples can't be beat! We obtained several of the small ones and weeded those down to a short list in order to obtain the larger ones. Ken was easy to talk with and responded to our phone calls and emails promptly, professionally and answered all of our many questions and more. We live in a suburb of a capital city; so we have access to many and varied hardwood flooring companies. However, we found no one had the quality and wear layer thickness that Uptown Floors' engineered hardwood has. For the Quality and Pricing, Uptown Floors' would be difficult to all but impossible to beat. Our flooring contractor was impressed by how well and precise the flooring was manufactured and our builder enjoyed dealing with Ken. Our experience with Uptown Floors was perfect and we are recommending Ken and his company to friends, family and we would obviously purchase from Uptown Floors again!!

Purchased hickory Spring Meadow from Ken @ Uptown Floors recently. Ken was extremely helpful; making sure correct amount of flooring was order, ensuring that I had correct treads and risers for the steps, etc. I was a little unsure about ordering flooring online given the cost and not able to see the quality of wood/milling before hand but speaking with Ken and reading the reviews about his company I went and purchased 1300 sq. of flooring. Took about 8 weeks to arrive. During installation of flooring my installer mentioned he was very impressed with the quality of the flooring. He stated the milling was excellent, planks were square, none were warped and installation was a breeze.
