About Us
Duvall & Co. is co-owned by husband and wife team, David and Danielle Duvall. After college, both David and Danielle started working in the pharmaceutical industry. The Duvall’s never intended to start a custom furniture business. David has always enjoyed wood-working and refinishing antiques. Danielle has always had a passion for interior design. In December of 2012, Danielle encouraged David to take a few pictures of the beautiful custom pieces he had built for their own home and place them on Craigslist to see if anyone else would want a custom dining table or bed. Fast forward a few months and Under The Table Company has become one of North Carolina’s premier custom furniture firms with a 4,000 square foot wood working shop, an exceptional team of furniture builders and growing social media fan base. Under The Table Company has a mission of creating the highest quality custom furniture while helping those less fortunate in our community. Every month Under The Table Company gives a percentage of our sales to a different local charity to help those less fortunate.
David and Danielle live in Wake Forest, North Carolina with their 4 children. They love creating memories around their own dining table and hope that one day they will have the opportunity to create a custom piece of furniture that will generate a lifetime of warm memories for your family too!

Duvall & Co. created a beautiful dining room table for us. The finished product was a complete work of art, made to perfection. We are incredibly happy with the table delivered to us!

We found David through Houzz, discovered he was local to us, and brought him some ideas we had for a kitchen table. He was so friendly and personable--very easy to work with. David created an absolutely spectacular kitchen table and coordinating bench for us. He is a truly talented craftsman, and this custom set was well worth the wait, and is sure to become a family heirloom!

Under The Table built an amazing custom farmhouse dining table for us. My wife and I looked at a lot of dining table options before deciding to go with these guys. We met with David and gave him all our custom dimensions and options. He was very helpful with picking out the trestle and getting a color match. We were moving into a new house a few weeks after placing the order and he was patient about letting us choose the color based on matching the room. The table arrived just in time for the holidays and saw a lot of use while our family was visiting. I had a picture in my mind of what our table would look like but the actual finished table was better than I could imagine. We love our dining room table and look forward to working with David and Under The Table for more custom pieces in the future.

I had been searching for a farm table for at least 6 months. I wanted something special that would be passed down to my son so I preferred that it wouldn't be a soft wood like pine that would be easily marred over time. I also was looking for a particular shade of the stain. Having said that I looked at Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, online Amish builders and local consignment shops. Nothing fit the bill. Tables were either very expensive, had veneer it were pine. The big stores had very ordinary(boring) looking tables.
Then I found Under the Table.com. The pictures were phenomenal and do were the reviews. I was nervous to design a table without personally seeing the materials or samples. David's tables are maple which I loved. They were very fairly priced. David and I were emailing back and forth about size of the table and bench and then the stain. I described what I wanted. He sent me a few samples. We discussed some tweaks of the stain. He sent me new samples (I may be a bit particular ; )
He nailed it (so to speak). The table and bench were built quickly and sealed well so they could withstand anything but direct heat. He had a company white glove deliver it. The table is a substantial piece of furniture. I was over the moon when it arrived. Now, 3 months later I still love looking at it and discovering the nuances of the wood and stain. Homework, Legos , crafting goes on at this table as well as meals. We love it and get many compliments .
Highly recommend David and Under the Table furniture makers.

when I moved into my fiancé's (now husband) house, it was clear that we needed some "non-bachelor" furniture. After spending an evening at a friend's house, we learned they had their table hand-made from David and his team at Under the Table. I emailed David and quickly got a response - and to our delight, he said we could customize our table and buffet to any size, specs, and details we liked. We took a few design elements from his website and other stores. David also sent wood samples so we could see the color and quality - which was important as we lived in another state. He communicated with us throughout the whole process. We are thrilled with our finished product. It is high quality, solid wood with a gorgeous finish and details. I would absolutely purchase more products from Under the Table Company and recommend them to others. Definitely money will spent.

We were very pleased with our farmhouse table made of wood from an 100 year old family farm house on our farm in Hollister, N.C.. David and Richard followed our plans and vision, and built our table exactly as we requested. The quality and attention to detail, all within the promised construction schedule, exceeded our expectations. Our kids and grand kids love sitting around the table at family gathering. We could not be happier.

My husband and I worked with David on a custom designed farm table and matching bench, and were extremely happy with the results. David met us at his store-front location and welcomed us into his work area to show us tables in process and point out different parts of his process. We love the fact that he sources North Carolina pine for most of the tables he builds. We really liked aspects of two different tables he had in the showroom, and so he worked out a design that incorporated both. Since there wasn't an exact replica of what we ordered already in existence, it was a bit scary to go forward with something we hadn't seen - but it turned out to be gorgeous and just what we had hoped for. Understand that you are ordering something to be custom-made so it does take time for the tables to be built, but we got ours in about 2 months which we thought was reasonable. Also, the delivery guys were excellent. They had to navigate some steep outdoor stairs at our home, and handled them flawlessly. David was very easy to work with as well. We will certainly seek Under The Table out again the next time we are looking for custom-made wood furniture.

Nearly great semi-custom furniture!
Overall we were pleased with the quality of the furniture, however, we were not happy with the customer service and getting the actual products we ordered.
We placed a very large order nearly a year in advance (dining room table, 2 king size beds, a bunk bed system, 2 end tables, a buffet table, and 2 dressers), that included delivery and assembly to a home 3 hours away. We asked for a specific delivery date 6 weeks out for when we closed on our new house as we were having family to help with the move - however, when the time came we ended up having to bear the expense and hassle of going to his shop and picking up all the pieces and paying for movers there and again at our new home 3 hours away and assembling everything but the bunk bed system by ourselves, or else we had to wait until the following week - which would not work for family flying into town to help set up the new place.
We ordered a table that was supposed to be 38" x 100" wide, however, it was wrongly built to 36" wide - the end chairs we bought and pulled up the exact dimensions for in his shop that David wrote down, could not be pushed in, so David had to rebuild the table, however, clearly was not happy.
We ordered a bunk bed system and specifically asked for guard rails to be built around the bed for safety reasons for our 3 year old - they decided without consult to not build any rails around the ladder because it didn't 'look right'. We told him this was a safety concern. His fix was to send 2, 2x4's for us to attach to the ladder side - not quite the right look, but better than nothing. We gave him the specs for the lights we were to install for the lower bunk - he ignored those, assembled the bed, and pushed it against the wall - stating he didn't want to make a mistake. Therefore, my husband and I spent an entire day figuring out how to move this 800 pound bed system away from the wall and installed them ourselves - looked and worked perfectly fine but was extremely hard to move.
We asked for our guest bed to sit 30" in height, just like our master bed, and said that it absolutely could not be too high because our parents could not move around easily due to health issues, we all agreed that 30" high would be manageable - however, he then built the frame identical to our master but didn't take into consideration the extra thick temperpedic mattress and boxspring that we gave him the dimensions for - therefore our guest bed sits at 34" in height and our parents with major hip and knee issues cannot get in and out of the bed without a stepstool. David refused to fix this problem, said that I told him it should be just like our master bed, and told us we could personally saw off the legs if we wanted to or throw away our $400 box springs and buy a piece of plyboard - which would have made the bed too low.
I told him I wanted both master and guest bed frames to be built so that you could not see the boxsprings (because they are ugly!) - and we all agreed that if he did that we could push them up from the bottom to remove them when needed since it was an open frame, so that wouldn't be a problem. However, it was built so that 4"+ are visible - very ugly and not sure how to fix this.
My husband attempted on numerous occasions to call and email because we wanted the guest bed fixed and the guard rails for my daughter's bed - he sent the 2 x 4's relatively quickly, but refused to do anything about the guest bed saying that we told him we wanted it like the master (in total height yes!) and ignored our numerous requests to purchase the additional 2 end tables that he agreed to build for the same price as the master end tables - David ignored the calls again and again, tables were never built.
In spite of all these problems (and that on the dressers the front piece of wood on the left side of both dressers quickly warped up and now we have a significantly curved top surface for both dressers which makes me think this might be a design flaw), we still greatly love the look and the idea of supporting local builders. Therefore, against my husband's counsel, I gave David the benefit of the doubt for the poor service since he intimated that it was because his new employee quit, he started a new job, he had a new baby coming, he bought a new house and still had to sell his old house, and was just stressed out - I contacted him recently to build 2 additional tables (dining and kitchen) that would have cost well over $6000 - I asked him a simple question about the sealer (water based versus oil), and he responded defensively with something to the effect that I should go someplace else since I was clearly not happy with anything he built previously.
I told him we just thought custom furniture should be built to custom specs - however clearly not with this company and if you think so, then you're the problem! He may be fine for simple orders, but not for multiple pieces - he does not pay too much attention to details and gets upset and defensive when you call him on this and refuses to fix the problems.
Again, the furniture is beautiful, but not worth the hassle. We bought our new dining room table from Restoration Hardware and saved more than $1800 - the 108" reclaimed trestle table is beautiful, arrived in 2 weeks and didn't come with any of the attitude and problems as our other dining room table!

Comment from Duvall & Co.:
This review is unfortunate. We have worked with hundreds of satisfied clients. We built nearly all of the furniture for this customer's vacation home in the mountains more than a year ago. They were extremely high maintenance and difficult to work with. They called us a year later and told us that they are redoing their full-time home and because they love the furniture for their vacation home so much, they would like to commission us to create some pieces for their full-time home. I politely declined the work. She was furious that we did not want to work with them again and told me that she was going to write a bad review on Houzz. So... Here it is. For the record, this is the only customer with whom we have ever refused to work.

We are super happy with our new farmhouse table from these guys. David was really helpful in giving us ideas of color and style that we hadn't thought of and we loved the end result. I will definitely recommend them to any friends or family looking for specific furniture pieces.

David at Under The Table was absolutely tremendous to work with, making sure he understood our needs and providing timelines for delivery. We were extremely satisfied with both the service provided and the table and bench we bought. I highly recommend Under The Table.

Under the Table built a custom farmhouse table for us! We absolutely love it. It is my all time favorite piece of furniture. David was very easy to work with and although they were very busy and we had to wait 3 months to get our table, it was well worth the wait. I can't wait to order another piece for our breakfast room.
