I worked with Gary to design a full outdoor living area that would work on a new Ipe wood deck in the Portland area. He suggested the Graysen Woods island to house the grill, fridge, icemaker and cocktail station and provided the design. Everything was delivered and installed perfectly. We added granite countertop and travertine tiles to vertical surfaces to finish. Also worked with Gary for seating area gas fire table and then Bonfire patio heaters. Everything came together perfectly.
Urban Artichoke Fine Gardening and Design

Patricia Larenas of Urban Artichoke just completed a year-long project - magically changing most of our yard and front hardscape areas into attractive, productive fruit, herb and vegetable gardens! Patricia created the design and my husband and I implemented it - with lots of guidance from Patricia and hands-on help from other folks. July, 2013-August, 2014 The project proceeded in the following manner: * Patricia met with my husband and me to scope out the areas we wanted to turn into edible gardens, learn about our likes and dislikes, and then the planning began! * We reviewed a few iterations of the plan and made a few requests for revisions; then we were presented with a final hand-colored drawing of the proposed edible garden areas, along with lists of the herbs, veggies and fruits we might put in each area. We loved the drawing so much that Patricia gave us a file which we converted to a large print on canvas! *California's protracted drought caused us to delay planting until late Spring 2014, However we followed Patricia's design while preparing the garden areas by removing weeds, sculpting the ground, adding potting soil and mulch, and building four raised beds with liners. We also followed her design in adding a 3-part compost bin, a trellised screen to obscure the bin, and built a gorgeous three-line clothesline -suitable for hanging cleaned camping gear or clothing. *Veggies, fruit trees, herbs were planted in various areas over several months - most are doing well, and many have provided delicious produce. We are using drip and low-pressure emitter watering systems. *Patricia provided email and in-person followup as part of the project - always showing up on time, and usually with a small cutting or packet of seeds to share, too. Patricia Larenas is talented, very warm and thoughtful, and a professional. She is clearly someone who enjoys her work, and that shines through in her projects and in her consultations. I recommend that anyone wanting excellent garden landscape design and support in Silicon Valley give her a try!

My husband and I are absolutely delighted with Trisa Pierce and all of the people who subcontracted for her. Trisa is a true artist when it comes to designing yards and she brings a wealth of horticultural knowledge to the project as well. We have lived in our home for 43 years and had never really done anything with the yards, except for planting the occasional annuals and cleaning, so we were neophytes when it came to this project. We had the entire outdoor area redone- front, back, and side yards. My husband had removed our pool the previous year, so our backyard looked like a bomb had gone off in it. Trisa spent lots of time with us to try to determine what we actually wanted and she was able to offer suggestions and possible solutions to problem areas. She made very careful measurements of our property from many different angles, and one of the things that impressed me the most was the fact that she approached the project by taking into account the views from the windows of our house and our guest house. She encouraged us to research ideas for this project and she was able to provide us with sketches which helped us visualize the whole project. She was pleasant and easy to work with, she was up front about costs, subcontracted with very knowledgeable people who knew their field of expertise and were able to implement it in a timely fashion, met deadlines with just a few weather-related delays, returned phone calls promptly, and we were particularly impressed with her ability to work with one of our neighbors. We needed access to our backyard through his property and Trisa was a big help in gaining that access. I collected business cards from Trisa and the subcontractors, since our neighbors stopped by often and had questions, including who was doing the work for us. I was happy to recommend all of these people. We made several trips to local nurseries to select plants and trees and Trisa was particularly helpful in that area, since she knew the tolerance of the plants and trees to various growing conditions. As I said at the beginning of this review, Trisa is an artist and her placement of plants and trees is beautiful. I am very happy with the results of our "yard" remodel and with the project itself. I learned a great deal and our yards, both front and back, are now the showpiece of the neighborhood.

The arbor brackets and system looks fabulous over my garage door. I have a jasmine growing on it. It transformed the front of the house into a gracious and inviting looking area. I extended the arbor for almost 30' and was happy I employed an experienced carpenter to make sure it was level and that the places where I had to butt the long pieces of trellis were secure and accurate. I love the natural look of their wood, but discovered that my arbor/trellis looked best when painted the soft grey of the house. Arbor Original was so helpful when I ordered, giving me suggestions and advice that made my job go so smoothly. The brackets were the finest quality I've seen, and I've been to all the local home supply stores in Northern California, from So San Francisco to Cloverdale.
