Classic Home Improvements
General Contractors in Victoria
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsSeptember 8, 2014
My husband and I are impressed with the exceptional job that Classic Home Improvements did for our house. We initially had a basement that was dingy and unfinished and the team made it a welcoming space. The level of professionalism was to the highest standard. The team was accommodating (to our changes) and friendly. We both appreciated that the team would come daily at the same time. The entire team was always working hard! Every item complete was fully discussed, so there were no extra surprises. They were even accommodating to our family pets. Thank you!! We love our new living space!

When we were planning our kitchen renovations, Justin and JL Construction were recommended by our kitchen designer to oversee and manage the work. When we initially met with Justin, it was clear to us that he was the right person for the job. At the start of the project, he provided us with a detailed budget and schedule for the renovations, and worked throughout the process to stay on budget and on schedule without compromising the quality of the work. Justin retained the various sub-contractors and coordinated their work and this made the process hassle and stress free, as far as we were concerned. He always ensured that the renovation areas were kept clean, which was important since we were still living in the house during the renovations. We are now planning renovations for our garage and we have hired JL Construction once again for the work.

Steve and his crew at Made to Last Building Renovations did the installation of our commercial millwork in the Shaw Retail store in Victoria. The project was very complex containing wood columns, hanging wood bulkheads, oversize wood panels that needed to be scribed to drywall. Steve and his team had no difficulty with this install and executed it to a high level of quality. Communication was really good, they answer their phones when I need to get a hold of them and they are proactive on updating us on the status of the job. We are based out of Calgary AB, so it can be difficult to manage a job from out of town, Made to Last pretty well managed the entire install of the project. Billing and was fair and professionally done and there were no change order surprises. We would most certainly use Made to Last Building Renovations again in the future and are happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a solid, honest, quality oriented contractor.

I have had the privilege of working with Russ Barry on waterfront homes on Vancouver Island and found Russ as a builder, to be very enthusiastic throughout the construction phase and handled the each project very professionally. He is 'hands-on' and manages his crew very well and treats everyone including sub-trades with a high degree of respect. My clients have always given me positive feedback of having Russ on the job site. He always maintained a tidy and efficiently smooth job site, he is punctual and delivers on his promises!

Thank you to Yager Construction for their work on the West Coast log home and the exceptional work that they did. Our Team and Client were thrilled by the work and the overall experience was beyond expectation. It can be difficult to navigate the noise and find a trustworthy company to work with. Highly recommended.

Allan completed an upgrade to my kitchen two years ago. He changed a very ugly, dark steel door and small window for a very beautiful 3 piece patio door and installed a new large window on a side wall. This reno, while small by comparison to many other jobs, meant so much to me and my family. He was very professional and completely reliable, communicating daily. As a single woman raising two teenagers, he made what could have been a scary experience, into one that was calm and efficient, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I recommend him highly.
MAC Renovations LTD.

I have had Mac Renovations do several major projects on my house over the past four years, all of which have been of exceptional quality. The first big one was turning my unfinished basement into a two bedroom unit for my father, including kitchen and bathroom. They got it done on time and on budget. Mac has also overseen the painting of the exterior of my house, including managing several repairs needed during the painting process. Mac oversaw the new roof placed on my house as well, including undertaking repairs needed during the roofing process. In addition to these bigger projects, they've also handled some smaller jobs, such as my house's skylights, which started to show small signs of leaks after 20 years. They had someone here to measure and order the new skylights within hours, and they were installed within a week. They've also built exterior sheds on my property that are safe, secure and solid. I generally have left town during my renovation projects, and I have complete confidence that Mac will get my job done while I'm away. I trust them 100% with what is by far my greatest asset, my house.

If you want to work with professionals who do what they promise, and do it well, these are your guys. We purchased a beautiful home on Guemes Island, off the mainland of Washington state. The house has lots of character and many custom elements, including wood trim from native trees. As such, we needed to find a contractor who respected and appreciated the craftsmanship and who would make an extra effort to retain the high quality and look. Our first major project was to transform a tiny powder room into a 3-piece bath with shower. After interviewing several contractors, we decided to go with Cameron and Bigfoot Builders. He was extremely detailed in his project scope and pricing. He was also the only one with an online website which was customized for our project and where we could check on timeline, progress, change orders, etc. Working with Cameron was very easy. He took 360 degree photos and translated them into a diagram that showed the amount of space we had and what could be done with it. Since we had a large closet on the other side of the wall with the sink, he proposed that we utilize some of that space for the shower, while keeping the remainder of the space as a very usable clothes closet with shelves. Timing was a bit delayed, but not due to their work. Being on an island has its challenges and the ferry accessing Guemes was out for 6 weeks so, by the time we could actually get started, it was well into peak season and we had to work with each subcontractor (electrician, plumber, tile, etc) as they became available. Cameron was really good at communicating dates of availability and trying to move things up when he could. Each of the subs did exceptional work, so no complaints there. Cameron worked with us with the colors and materials and offered valuable input. The result is very functional and high quality, maintaining the craftsmanship and look of the rest of the house. The materials allowance included in the estimate was generous, unlike many contractors who try to keep those costs minimal. Cameron understood what the desired final look would be and was able to procure high quality materials. He even had an extra tall custom shower door built rather than a standard off the shelf door so the look would be more cohesive. The shower door will be installed today and I am looking forward to the final, finished look. The bath is situated between a bedroom and media room and really looks like it is an ensuite to the bedroom. It does not look like an add-on. I can't say enough about the high quality work that the Bigfoot team does. Kyle, who was working hard the whole project, did exceptional work, even according to the other subs. He framed out the shower stall perfectly, so perfectly that the man who came to take the shower door measurements had to take them three times because he could not believe how perfectly the job was done. He told me that "they could have just sent me the measurements and saved me a ferry ride". The entire Bigfoot team is a pleasure to work with. Everyone is pleasant, respectful, and eager to please. This is such a welcome departure from other contractors that I have worked with. Even smaller, miscellaneous tasks like a sliding door lock (which my husband mangled) were done with cheerfulness and attention to detail. This company has upped the bar for their competition. I will be doing other projects with them.

I met David while working together on a kitchen remodel and was very impressed with his attention to detail. David has a background in finish carpentry and it really shows in his work. I believe the level of craftsmanship in his work really shines through in his finished projects. I highly recommend his services and hope to work with him on further remodels in the near future.

We worked with Darin & Adriene on our 2nd floor remodel which involved expanding two bedrooms, adding a dormer and a bathroom with a large shower, as well as roof windows in the 2nd bedroom. This project also included all new windows on the 2nd floor and a new roof. We could not have been happier with the result. Additionally, we had them build a fabulous fence in the front and back yards which includes metal posts clad in cedar with no wood touching the ground - a breakthrough design which adds years of life to our wooden fence. We'd be happy to talk with anyone who are thinking about hiring this amazing team. Their work ethic and values are the highest and it shows in our results.
