“After living in Oklahoma for 60+ years and with climate change happening more rapidly than we thought, we decided to get some tornado protection. We thought the Oklahoma City Home Show would be a good place to start so we went and saw about 10 or 12 different shelter vendors on display. After hearing one of my employees' stories about cramming 14 people into his garage floor shelter, we knew we didn't want to be any part of that experience. Most of what we saw at the Home Show were giant sardine cans for either above or below ground. Your cell phone would be blocked from working by the thick metal and they were just downright ugly to have below or above ground. Then we saw the only shelter at the show that seemed to be just what we were looking for: above ground, nice looking, no interference with cell phone transmission or reception and engineered to be the safest possible above ground shelter that could be assembled practically anywhere and still feel like a real room in your home. We also knew and trusted the name DuPont for engineering and professionalism. We knew their scientists who invented bullet-proof Kevlar would engineer a product we could trust. It met all the FEMA tests for safety and the only question left was can we trust the contractor to do it right and treat us right. We found both of these elements to be a solid plus in Philip Slater and Oklahoma Storm Rooms. We felt confident in Philip's thorough knowledge of his product and his ability to construct our 4 x 8 ft. shelter exactly where we needed it to be. He never let us down on any account. He supervised and took an active part in the construction of our Storm Room and we were more than pleased with him, his work and his product.
