I really do hate to leave any kind of negative review and I have waited months to write this because I didn't know if it was just my own experience any maybe it was just my own expectations and personal interactions that were the problem but after speaking with others that used Albemarle Contractors and had the same experience I thought it was time to share my experience. I first have to say that I very much like Joe and Lori, they are great people and outside of working with them im sure they are great to be around and terrific people and friends. The overall quality of the finished project was good, not excellent but above average for sure. Communication was poor and very frustrating, not much was owned and on many occasions mistruths were told to cover up mistakes. Transparency was not there and still I'm yet to receive a full breakdown on costs. Project was left unfinished with many small items left abandoned. House was not cleaned upon finishing. Too many projects taken on.

I have never worked with more honest or professional people. The project included rebuilding deck, and removing and replacing old siding and windows. Joe and his crew did such a great job that we have them renovating another house right now.

I have worked with Joe and Lori on multiple projects over the past 10 years. My first project was a custom 1000 sq foot deck with enclosed screen porch. Since then they have done siding replacement, windows and doors, plumbing and electrical work. Their craftsmanship is top notch. Beyond just the quality of their work - they're the nicest folks you could hope to work with.

Albemarle Contractors has done bathroom remodeling and a roof replacement right after hurricane Matthew. Always high quality and always on time completion. Great customer relations too. Joe & Lori are super nice people.

Their work is highly professional from the planning level through implementation. They managed a major renovation for us and contributed many good ideas about design elements and products to be used and they executed the plan in a highly capable manner. Also, they have been quick to come back to help us with a few fine tuning jobs. We do not feel abandoned by them once they finished the main project.

Albemarle Contractors, Inc. was our contractor for a room addition and outside space improvement. I cannot write as many positives and I need to. From design, engineering, structural changes, code improvements, to the finishing touches. There was not a detail left out. The sub-contractors that they employed were (and continue to be) true craftsmen. We were lucky to find them and I truly have the comfort of knowing that work was done correctly.

I have known Lori and Joe for many years and they are considered to be one of the best contractors on the Outer Banks of N.C.. Their knowledge of the building industry and client communication is first class and they are both very personable which makes their customers at ease during the project phase. Joe's enthusiasm about the smallest detail is what makes them so good at their jobs, highly recommend!

Very honest and the best quality workmanship I have seen at reasonable prices - best value for the dollar spent.

I have worked together with Joe and Lori for several years. They are honest people and their attention to detail is incredible. I saw this house during the 2012 Parade of Homes. The craftsmanship in this house was absolutely amazing. I loved the custom details like the Wine barrel sink in the powder room. The kitchens colors and overall design was beautiful. I especially loved the touches of aqua accent paint, copper, the warm cherry cabinets, and the blend with the knotty hardwood floors. I thought everything was so warm and inviting! A beautifully executed home.

We contracted with Albemarle Contractors to build a new house for us in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Upon the initial contact, we were immediately provided with references for our review as well as an invitation to join them to personally view some of their prior projects, a wide sampling of both new constructions as well as remodels. That first meeting provided us a comfort level that would be prevalent throughout the project and beyond. Joe and Lori McGraw are highly professional, extremely knowledgeable, and very “high touch” in their approach to homebuilding. First and foremost, Albemarle Contractors surrounded themselves with professional collaborators who were highly reputable and excited to be a part of our project. Joe and Lori made sure that everyone who was involved---from the architect to the framers, to the landscaper and everyone in between shared our vision and had the skill to execute on it. Joe and Lori provided a detailed contract for the project for our review. Throughout the homebuilding process, they kept us updated on progress with an open dialogue regarding every financial and construction aspect of the project. They also served as a valuable sounding board, tirelessly entertaining our every question and idea---no question was too small and every change was met with the same unfailingly positive approach. Most importantly, they gave sound feedback and suggested other options where appropriate. Our home is very different from the standard Outer Banks home. Joe and Lori did an amazing amount of research to provide us with the best value for our dollar while delivering on our vision. They also made sure that we were always aware of our deadlines, so that we were able to make necessary choices and decisions in a timely fashion. Joe and Lori McGraw have provided us with a home that far exceeds our every expectation---it is truly our dream home. Everyone who comes into our home marvels at the craftsmanship and all the little details that make the house special. We like to say that Joe personally oversaw every nail that was hammered and that is pretty close to the truth. And, if Joe did not see it, Lori did. Their passion for their work is second to none. Joe and Lori remain trusted advisors even though our home was completed over a year ago. During a recent storm they went over to our house to make sure that everything was battened down and then checked on it once the storm had passed. Their commitment to service is unmatched. It is without hesitation that we highly recommend Albemarle Contractors to anyone who is considering a home construction project in the Outer Banks.
