My only regret is that we did not use Blok for every project. The work they did to upgrade our decks was fantastic. We had five wood decks on our home that were original to the 1995 build date. They were showing some wear and were starting to sag and have soft spots. We brought in Blok, and it was one of the best decisions ever. They rebuilt the underlying structure where it had rotted and did not meet the current building codes for safety. Meaning the decks were not securely attached to the house. They also leveled up our raised three-season porch. Where we had discovered the footings had totally crumbled and had been “jimmied” to keep the room close to level. At our direction they completely rebuilt the footings and underlying support. The room was actually more than 4” off level. It remains perfectly level now. It is now over five years since the work they did for us and it is still impressive and perfect. We use all our decks all the time and love them. They have held up incredibly well and have needed little to no maintenance to stay perfect. We love our decks. The work team was always on time, kept their work area neat and clean. They stayed on time or ahead of time on the promised work. And while expensive they stayed on budget. I wish every contractor had the work ethic and quality of service Blok has. They are well worth the extra expense when you look at the value over time of what was done. We highly recommend the Blok team. If we do another big project Blok will be who we call.

I engaged Blok Builders to do a whole house renovation of a 1970s era condo. They offered smart, innovative suggestions on how to update my house and we developed a suitable plan. Without fuss, they managed all the unexpected issues we encountered. There were no surprises regarding costs or materials. Costs are straightforward. They vary by the complexity of the project but they are standardized. Blok Builders provides a detailed and honest estimate in advance of work done, and again if the project changes. Billing is so scrupulous that they send to the customer the original receipt for every item purchased for the project. Blok uses a computer program to guide the customer through the project process. All plans, selections for materials, appliances, finishes, paint colors, and other decisions are posted and both parties sign that they are accurate. They were aware of cost at every stage and made sure I had several choices for materials at several price points. I appreciated that they never tried to upsell me. They have a good sense of when to “go big” or use an economical method. There were several instances when I was prepared to pay for custom work and they told me it would not be worth it. Blok’s workmanship and attention to detail is remarkable. In addition to supervising subcontractor, for me, they custom designed and built a mantel and supervised the installation of art tile as the surround. The hearth had a lip so they built a sloped finish edge so that it could not trip someone. They were willing to make adjustments during and at the end of the project after we made mid-course corrections. They are up-to-date on the latest materials and methods, including lighting. To my mind, they have encyclopedic knowledge of woods, finishes, stone, and the new synthetic materials used for building and decorating. Decisions often were easy because they could provide the advantages and disadvantages of each choice. Every single subcontractor on the job told me that Blok Builders was their favorite general contractor. Blok’s reputation for fine workmanship and fair dealing is known by the people who work most closely with them. Blok Builders always made me feel as if I was their most important customer. They answer the phone!. If I didn’t reach them, my calls were always promptly returned and my questions answered in detail. They kept their appointments or contacted me if they were running late. I felt completely comfortable about giving Blok Builders a key to my house, and being alone with them and the crew. Everyone was polite, courteous, and kind. They were careful with my belongings. Blok Brothers continuing care for their projects is legendary in Kalamazoo. They make sure everything is right well after they close the door. I would not hesitate to hire Blok Brothers to do any project. They love their work and they love doing it well for their customers.

When we decided to build our dream house, we looked around with our architect to interview possible builders. When we met with Blok Builders, everything just clicked and working with them was a delight. Hands down, their reputation, the quality of work, and the Blok brothers' honesty and integrity made building our house a meaningful experience that we continue to appreciate even more than 15 years later. We could not have dreamed of a better turn out for our house, and considering the architectural design was challenging, Blok Builders approached it with ease and determination. The Bloks have always been available to answer any questions we have had about the house, or the maintenance of it, and they are diligent in making sure all their customers are satisfied in the dream home they built for them. Blok Builders were great to work with. They worked with us to find a solution for stabilizing our foundation that worked for us and from an engineering standpoint for a reasonable price. We recently had our kitchen " refreshed" , updated by Blok builders with new lighting, countertops, backsplash, hardware for the cabinets, and our wood floors refinished ( also all new appliances and painting of walls and ceiling). We could scarcely be more pleased with Blok Builders. Their professionalism, choice of sub-contractors, and sheer grace about their tasks were all amazing! Everyone involved really appear to be experts at their trade(s). Their schedule was met (except for one glitch which wasn't their fault). We've not seen final billing yet, but I think we're pretty darn close to budget estimates. The results are spectacular and well worth the wait!

Blok Builders worked on our master bathroom a few years ago. We were impressed by their quality of work, professionalism, clear communication and transparency with all the expenses. The Blok Builders did a major remodel of our mid-century modern home with a flat roof, in a wooded area. The project included creating a master suite, removing a massive concrete and steel fireplace, building built-in cabinets and bookshelves and a whole floor and couple bathrooms remodel. The entire project took place while I was abroad for the year. The team has been wonderful to work with. Despite the distance, the communication was smooth, and my every need was met. I challenged everyone in the team with difficult ideas including back-lit walls, incorporating LED lights in very unconventional ways, incorporating difficult to use material in the house, in summary, turning a dated house into a 21st century ultramodern home. If you need any work done, I highly recommend working with the Blok Builders. This last summer I hired Blok Builders to help me with the redesign / rebuild of an outside deck at our lake house. We had John, Travis and Ben remodel our kitchen. You hear all the nightmare stories of remodeling a kitchen, but I must say that, although it is always an inconvenience to have your kitchen out of commission, these guys left my home cleaned up each evening and tried hard to keep sink, stove and refrigerator going for most of the time. Another nightmare of remodeling is that a contractor will tell you they will be to your job at 8:00 am on Monday but not show until noon. Not so with Blok Builders. If they told me they would be at my house at 7:30, I could be guarenteeed they were backing into my drive at 7:25!!!! Totally dependable, totally honest, totally first class in all they do. Call them, you will not be sorry.

A complicated project that involved both indoor and outdoor work. the work was completed with the highest quality, at a reasonable price. The entire crew was a pleasure to work with, they are the best while delivering great value.

We had Bruce and team come in to do a much needed update to our Laundry Room. Despite our house giving them a few 'snags' (hard to remove wallpaper, walls out of square, etc), everyone at BBI and their contractors handled it no problem. They were always communicating with us as to when and whom people were showing up, and the final result is awesome!

Overall, our latest project went very well. Workmanship was excellent. Bruce Blok’s crew and subcontractors were courteous, punctual, experienced and worked well together to coordinate tasks. There were challenges. Living in a house during a complicated renovation has its drawbacks, and there were a few lapses in communication, but overall the project was a great success and we would use Blok Builders again.
