Buckminster Green recently refreshed our back patio. They implemented a wonderful design that included a bunch of creative solutions which made the area much nicer and more spacious. The team was efficient and communicated perfectly. All around a superb experience. Excited to work with them again.

Hiring Buckminster Green was the best decision we made for our home. Hire them only if you want the highest quality work, clear communication, attention to small details, and your project to finish on schedule. They made our house a home. We’ve been living with their work for 7 months now and we still couldn’t be any happier. They are the best.

Thanks for sharing, Ryan. We're happy we were able to help you get more out of your home.
We very much enjoyed working with the whole Buckminster team. It was our first project but they made the process understandable and easy. Kristie provided an amazing design and the team executed it perfectly. The upfront estimation for project length and price were almost perfectly on target for the reality of the project as they know old row homes well and were prepared (and prepared us) for the expected issues and included them in the estimation. Their client service is excellent, they are very responsive (even after the job was completed!). We lived in the home through the renovation and the team (Sam, Kevin and Asher) treated our home with such care and even indulged our young son who was delighted by the array of tools :) if you need to renovate an older row home if Philly, they are the best!

We were new to Philadelphia and recently purchased a home that needed some updating. We had a wonderful architect in Jibe Design, but needed someone we could trust to implement the vision! Kenny, Scott, Jim and rest of the team delivered! The project was to update the home, create a minimalist sleek design aesthetic and make the home more family-friendly.
Buckminster Green was able to remodel 4 bathrooms, convert a primary bedroom that was quite large to a shared kid's room, lighten all the wood flooring, install more windows to bring in greater like and really work with us throughout the project to make adjustments as needed.
They were thoughtful, timely and creative. Definitely a trusted partner!

We had a great experience working with Kristie of Buckminster Green on a redesign of two floors of our house. She was a pleasure to work with and had a great balance of guiding us with her recommendations while heeding our taste preferences. She made what can be a stressful process smooth and enjoyable. We'd definitely work with her again.

We live in a turn of the century carriage house with an industrial past as a former machine shop. Our family of three had lived in the building for over 10 years and done 2 rounds of remodeling prior to contacting Buckminster Green to engage in significant whole house remodel.
Throughout the entire project (approx. 1 year) the BG team was present, worked hard, and was respectful of our home and the worksite. A clean jobsite says a lot about how much someone cares about what they are doing. Scott was our project manager and orchestrated not only the BG team of carpenters, but also a slew of additional subs. On top of that he managed us the clients. When Scott would engage with us to explain a particular strategy or solution, he communicated with clarity and patience. Never was he condescending or curt in his delivery. There were instances where we discussed issues and he convinced us that we would be better solving a problem in a way that he had envisioned, and there were other times when he remained flexible to amend the project to realize something we wanted to change. Every effort was made to accomplish the items we requested and outlined in our project. The team was so considerate that a neighbor wrote an unsolicited review of how professional BG was in their conduct when it came to notifying surrounding residents of construction activities that might have an impact on them.
As with any remodel or adaptive reuse project, problems and challenges do happen. When it became apparent a sub had done inadvertent significant damage to new windows despite BG’s effort to protect them. When we notified BG of the problem, Kenny took time to understand and investigate the extent of the damage. He did not refuse responsibility, but worked with us to find a solution. BG recognized a mistake and has sought to fix it at significant expense. This all came at the end of a long process and could have had a significant impact on the relationship and left my wife and I with a lot of stress and dismay. Then end result speaks to the human character that stands behind the company name. In the end, much of the renovation process is about relationships and character qualities. Of course, the end result is important, but getting there and feeling confident and secure in that journey will almost always ensure that whatever work gets done is good work. BG upholds the highest standards in those relationships from owner to employee.
I would 1000% work with BG again in the future. I spent more money with them than I have on anything else in my life and the return on investment exceed all my expectations. I am still married and I am still employed. Without BG I’m not sure I could say either of those things given the scope of our project. One of the best teams in Philly, together they made the experience enjoyable and rewarding. On top of it all, we now live in a beautiful home that will be a distinctive part of our neighborhood for many years to come.

Thanks for this review, John. We really enjoyed transforming your home. It's one of a kind!
We have been back in our house for a few months and we could not be more delighted with the level of care and craftsmanship of the Buckminster Green team. Our house is about 130 years old and parts of the heating, plumbing, and electrical systems were past their useful lifespans. Buckminster Green brought these systems up to date and improved energy efficiency with a new insulated roof, insulated walls at the rear of the house, and air seals wherever possible. The team understood the challenges of working within the constraints of a brick rowhouse and made suggestions based on lots of experience. The house is now cozy in the winter and cool in the summer–a significant improvement for our family’s thermal comfort!
The Buckminster Green team brought its attention to detail with the carpentry and finish installations. The trimwork is precise, the tile is thoughtfully laid out, and the custom cabinets are both handsome and sturdy. This all took patience and coordination–all the more challenging during pandemic conditions.
We moved out of the house during construction. We had good communication with Kenny, Scott, and Carl during the process and felt confident that we were on the same page. A pleasant surprise was our neighbors' feedback. We frequently heard how tidy Buckminster Green was, how considerate they were about parking (a big topic in South Philly), and how kind they were when neighbors had questions. We have lovely neighbors and it reflects well on Buckminster Green that they value maintaining those relationships.

I picked Buckminster Green on the advice of some friends and wasn't disappointed. I worked with them to redesign my kitchen, bathroom, and home office. Overall, it came out better than I'd hoped and looks fantastic. The communication process was fantastic, as the BuilderTrend App makes it easy to communicate and they uploaded progress photos every few days so that even while I was traveling for work during the renovation, I could see what was happening.

We are very satisfied with the kitchen and bathroom project by Buckminster Green in our suburban home. Before contacting Buckminster Green, we met with several architects. None were interested in working on our project, and none had much to offer in the way of ideas to solve our problems. In one of our first meetings with Kenny, he was able to sketch out a plan that eliminated a redundant stairway and gave us more room in the kitchen. He also came up with creative ideas for storage in an older house. Practical suggestions were offered on what cabinets to buy and the like. The construction crew then translated the plan into reality. Some seven years later, the kitchen remains a very pleasant room that we enjoy. The workmanship has held up, and we plan to continue to enjoy the house. Photographs on the Houzz site give a good overview of what a Buckminster project will look like in reality.

Thank you for this review. It's great to hear that after 7 years you are still happy with the work done.
Buckminster Green did a whole house renovation for us. It was seamless from start to finish. The first floor had to be fully gutted. We did not employ an architect. Bronwyn and Kenny drew up a plan that we then modified. That we could do the planning and execution all with one team was a big advantage, as we did not have to coordinate with an architect and a builder separately.
Communication was excellent. We started work just as COVID was hitting. Buckminster Green kept us uptodate every step of the way especially as we had to stop work because of the lockdown. Our stress level was kept low because of the regular updates we were given.
Kenny took care of all the myriad formalities that comes with renovating in a historical area. Permits were obtained in a timely manner. Kudos to Kenny for navigating all this through Covid
Scott and his team who did the work on the house were great. They were very flexible and accommodated our changing wishlist. They had to do the construction with the rules changing constantly because of Covid but they managed it well .
Buckminster Green were realistic with their budget estimate and the only additions to it was because of the changes we made during the construction
Bronwyn helped us make decisions on the multiple purchases we had to make including a full kitchen,4 bathrooms ,floor tiles, paint choices etc. Her taste is impeccable and having her by my side guiding me through the process was a stress reliever.
All in all I would recommend the Buckminster team very highly. I have heard of horror stories of renovations going wrong but this experience was great for us. I would not hesitate in recommending this team to anybody. You will not have to micromanage the process and can be as hands off as you want to be .

Our experience with Buckminster Green was fantastic beginning to end. The project was a complete redo of the 1st floor of our Philly rowhome (including back patio). Working with Kenny and Brownwyn on the design was everything we hoped for. They both contribute so much to process and if you do hire Buckminster Green I highly recommend using the design services. There was a tricky plumbing issue involved in the project but Kenny was up to the task and worked with the plumbers to come up with a creative solution. This type of problem solving is critical to doing a project right in a tight rowhome. We came to trust Brownwyn’s design instincts so much that when she recommended painting white our newly exposed joists in the kitchen we trusted her despite initially thinking they should be kept a dark natural wood color. Those white joists are now our favorite feature of our incredibly beautiful new kitchen and can’t believe how much better it is than our original idea! Once the project began, Scott provided us a detailed schedule of the construction process that the team managed to impressively keep up with or surpass. Working with Scott, we were easily able to add a few additional smaller projects onto the project as we went along. This flexibility is hugely helpful. Moreover, throughout the project, the team exhibited a high level of professionalism, courtesy and respect for us and our home (special shout-out to Jim and Graham). Most importantly, they delivered truly amazing work. We had big dreams for this project and Buckminster Green more than delivered. We could have found someone to do the project cheaper but as we’ve learned the hard way on previous large projects, you absolutely pay for what you get. And while this was an expensive project, we feel it was with every cent.

Buckminster Green is organized and easy to work with. Our project was essentially on time and on budget, and the quality of work is 1st rate. Furthermore, Kenny was incredibly responsive and helpful when we contacted him about a leak (that turned out not be related to any of the work he did) 8 months after the project was completed . I can't say they were extremely creative in coming up with design solutions. For example, after struggling to find a way to increase storage in the master bedroom, and several failed ideas, it occurred to me before it occurred to them to steal a couple feet of space from the adjoining room to create a closet, which in retrospect seemed obvious. The design services they offer seem to cover more in the realm of style/choosing finishes. However, I still don't regret paying extra for design services as Bronwyn has great taste and can offload many of the design decisions in a big project. I would be delighted to be able to use them again!`

We had a great experience working with the whole team at Buckminster Green and recommend them for their thoughtful approach to design, careful project management, and the superior skill and execution of the team that completed our project.
Kenny and Bronwyn were able to put some crucial finishing touches on the mostly-completed design we brought to them and made sure to find a way to make everything we’d hoped for work. They didn’t bat an eye when we asked if they could put a dishwasher in our temporary kitchen, and this turned out to be a life saver when the project was delayed for 2 months mid-way by COVID, and our big, intergenerational family was suddenly home all the time. They also were eager to work with us on salvaging and reusing as much material as possible on the project, and matched our commitment to high performance design and sustainable materials - both of which can be tricky in an older home renovation.

“Integrity, Competence, Perfectionism”
These are among the essentials for long term success in any business. Buckminster Green gets top grades in each of these measures.
We hired this team for a major remodeling project, including living area, kitchen, entrance way and two bathrooms of our condominium. From the planning stages to the warranty period of our project, Kenny and his team exceeded our expectations.
The process started with Kenny and Bronwyn meeting with us to set the parameters for the project. The clear, informative, and direct style of communication we experienced then was to continue until the completion of the remodel. Shortly after, the planning phase began where they listened carefully to our ideas and worked with us to concretize a design and a buildable plan.
Bronwyn worked to help our tastes take form. She offered many original suggestions and tactfullly yet firmly disagreed a few times with our choices. Of course, the final decision was always ours. This collaborative process would result in the realization of our vision shaped and polished by a designer’s hand.
After demolition commenced and construction began, inevitable unforseen issues (e.g., a pipe discovered not shown in legacy building plans) presented themselves. Each time, Kenny and his team discussed the issue with us, suggesting creative solutions. Moreover, they were quick to offer a helping hand even when the problem turned out not to be theirs to solve. A notable example was an emergent concern that arose in our building on weekend. Kenny, Scott our project manager, and Nijual responded within minutes of my reachng out. Even though they found out the issue had nothing to do with either their work or our unit, Buckminster Green worked with the property management folks to address the problem.
Any successful relationship, business or otherwise, must be based on trust. As the project began to take shape, our experiences with all at Buckminster Green, including with our project manager Scott and with our lead carpenter, Jim, reasurred us that these were skilled individuals who took great pride in delivering a superior product. Scott is a perfectionist in the finest sense of the word. His organizational abilitiies and attention to even the smallest of details are impressive. Jim was always more than willing to discuss the details of his work with us. Kenny and Bronwyn continued to be reliable collaborators throughout, always responding promptly to our questions and concerns.
Operating within both a budget and a projected timeframe were important to us. Kenny was clear from the beginning about what could be delivered within our agreed budget. When we (several times!) discussed expanding our choices, he pointed out exacly how much those choices would potentially add to our total cost. Perhaps more impressively, he offered more cost effective alternatives for our consideration. As always, the choice was ours. Our project was completed on time, despite a few changes and challenges along the way.
I recommend Buckinster Green without reservation. This is a highly skilled team who cares passionately about delivering a high quality product. They are ethical and easy to work with. In fact, I cannot recall the last time I have had such a satisfying experience hiring anyone for any purpose.

We have worked with contractors in the past and had the “normal” frustrations- poor communication, quoted budget was no where near the final cost, took much longer than the timeline. Buckminster Green is absolutely not the norm when it comes to these “normal” frustrations. Kenny and his team completed our first floor renovation with outstanding communication, on time and on budget. We couldn’t be happier with both the completed work and the renovation process. The team worked with subcontractors that they obviously had great relationships with which made the whole process go smoothly. When the plumbers planned vacation might have caused a delay the Buckminster team was able to have other subcontractors get work done ahead of schedule so the plumbers could complete their work and keep the project on time.
We will definitely be using Buckminster Green in the future when we renovate our master bath and recommend them very highly to friends.

We used Buckminster Green to build a custom patio for our house and are extremely pleased with the final result. Buckminster acted as GC for complicated concrete work and used their own employees to fabricate and build a custom cedar slat fence and storage shed. The results were excellent and we receive virtual daily compliments on the space from neighbors and passers by.

I recently worked with the team at Buckminster Green on a kitchen project in Philadelphia, PA. From the start, it was apparent to me that the organization, communication, tact and calm execution of BG was second to none. As a kitchen designer of 16 years, I have a lot of experience working with General Contractors in the area. I can honestly say that the journey with Buckminster Green was enjoyable, painless, and well above par for most remodelers in the area. I look forward to working with them again in the future on some fun and exciting projects. Make no hesitation when you go to call this firm for your home renovation project, as they will treat you like family. Well done!!!

I had an amazing time working with Buckminster Green. Kenny and his team finished our basement into the perfect playspace for my kids years ago and now that we have 3 kids they are all enjoying it. Our basement is our best kept secret and everyone that comes over is awed by the finished product. Five years later we hired Kenny again to renovate our kitchen. Our original kitchen was builder-grade and didn't quite suit our growing family. Kenny and Bronwyn took my vision and made it a reality. The whole team is invested in the projects they take on and were so easy to work with. I would highly recommend Buckminster Green!

We used Buckminster Green for a design-build project to renovate an unfinished basement space of around 1,000 sq ft. I highly recommend Buckminster Green! They did a great job on the design work, have very professional and talented team members, completed the job on-time and on-budget and with very high quality workmanship. This project had a number of unique components - full bathroom, added egress to the basement, large built in and lots of fun and creative ideas to make the space fun and playful for our kids.

Kenny and Bronwyn led us through a thorough design process for two bathrooms, a laundry room, and a basement. They listened carefully to our needs for the space and completed multiple iterations of the layout to ensure they captured everything. Sensitive to our budgetary requirements, they also facilitated significant value-engineering, re-using hardware, suggesting unique material choices, and re-evaluating the scope of the project based on discovered site conditions. Bronwyn quickly grasped our preferred aesthetic, and curated finish selections that met both design and budgetary requirements.
We lived in our home during the 5+ month project timeline, which adds an extra layer of complexity and were very happy with how respectfully Buckminster’s staff and trades treated our family and home. Scott, Carl, and Nijual’s detail-oriented attitude even extended to rigorous daily site cleanup.
We also commend the team’s problem-solving approach, as Kenny and Scott helped sort out material mismatches, worked around unpredictable site conditions, and reverse-engineer and remediate poorly-conceived prior renovations.
Overall, we are very happy with our space. Kenny’s team did very high quality work and were diligent in following up on the usual debugging that accompanies a new space. We’d happily use Buckminster again! Thanks again to Kenny, Bronwyn, Scott, Carl, Nijual, and the rest of the Buckminster team.

We hired Buckminster Green to help us with a complete renovation of an apartment. We have done two other major renovations of houses with good success, but our experience with Buckminster Green exceeded our expectations and was simply excellent. First, they are good listeners. Second, they are very creative and flexible, with an uncanny ability to solve design issues. Third, their work is of the highest quality. Fourth, they were on time and on budget. Our project took months, yet it was was completed virtually to the day when Buckminster Green told us it would be finished. The project was completed on budget. There were no surprises, no unreasonable delays, and no drama -- just great work by a group of highly professional and greatly talented people. Highly recommended.

We feel so lucky to have found Buckminster Green to work on our house. Buckminster Green recently finished a complete renovation of our 215 year-old row house in Society Hill. From start to finish, they were consummate professionals and a real pleasure to work with. Kenny, Scott, and their team are a group of smart, creative, and efficient contractors. Bronwyn with Buckminster Green provided the design for the bathrooms and kitchen, and helped us select all finishes throughout. Their work was completed on time and on budget, and with a high level of workmanship. Whether they were moving along as planned, or encountering unforeseen issues inherent to a historic renovation, working with them was truly an enjoyable experience. The job site was clean and organized, their workers were friendly, and communication was timely. They moved quickly to accommodate our requests, and resolved punch list items immediately upon project completion. We did not know it was possible to enjoy working with a contractor this much. We enthusiastically recommend them without hesitation. Thank you for creating our dream home, Buckminster Green!

I have worked with Buckminster Green on 5 bathrooms over 2 houses now. They have always been truly professional, organized, neat, on time, and they do the highest quality work. They have provided the designs for all the jobs, and Bronwyn has classically good taste but has no problem integrating the owner's ideas as well. They are thoughtful about every detail, and always responsive. Before the job begins they draw up a comprehensive contract with everything explained thoroughly. During the job, they make every effort to protect the area and furnishings before starting, stay as neat as possible during the work. Then they finish the work on time, and leave the home cleaner than before they started! All the workers are polite and communicative, and their sub contractors also agree that they are a class act.

Thank you for this review. It was fun designing a backyard shed that could stand up in the shadow of an I.M. Pei townhome.
When I did my first major renovation, I discovered something that many homeowners overlook: when you hire a general contractor, you're hiring his ENTIRE TEAM! The GC always talks a good game before the project begins, but it's the employees and the sub-contractors that do the work, and make the difference between a timely job well done, and one that is poorly handled and horribly late. Live and learn.
Determined not to repeat my earlier mistakes with other contractors, I'm now happy to report the Buckminster Green team, from top to bottom, achieved nothing short of excellence in the job they've just completed for our family. Kenny Grono took the time to understand our design objectives, and work with our architect to create a space that completely fits our needs. And he did so working within a budget that left little room for error. His project manager, Scott, and all the team members were thoroughly competent and professional. Always, the team showed that they were invested in the project’s outcome, and proud of their contributions.
Most importantly, the BG team consistently hit the perfect balance between the practical and the aesthetic. Because of the rigor in planning, we had very few change orders, and no resulting delays. At the end of the day, we had a project that came in on time, and on the number.
Make no mistake: This was a BIG job. Over $100k, involving renovation and restoration. Floors, subfloors, plumbing, electric, millwork, insulation - the works! Done and dusted. Literally.
Judging from the other reviews posted here, we are not alone in our praise for Buckminster Green. It’s hard to imagine how you could go wrong in hiring them.

We were impressed by Kenny from Buckminster Green from day 1. We hired them to do a large 5 month renovation, which included but was not limited to a kitchen renovation, 2 bathroom renovations, installing custom doors, removing an entry foyer, laying new hardwood floors, reworking railings throughout the house and painting. Their online software to manage the job, product selections and streamline job communications was efficient and expedited the renovation and communication process. Scott, our foreman, did a stellar job of coordinating craftsmen and reviewing job specifications with us throughout the whole job to ensure things were done to our expectations, he was a joy to work with. Our additions and changes were dealt with in a positive, upbeat manner. All of the crew and subs were pleasant to be around. We did not live in the house during the extensive renovation, but Buckminster ensured the house was complete, except for a small punch list, for our move in date. Once we moved in, the punch list was dealt with in an expedient manner.
We highly recommend Kenny and his wonderful crew!

We are very happy to have worked with Buckminster Green. We met with several contractors before beginning our project, and we felt that Kenny was trustworthy, knowledgeable about old houses, and in tune with our aesthetic. Now the project is over and we are very happy with the outcome - our house is just as we hoped it would be! They created a master suite, restored a living room that had been bisected by an ugly bathroom, and worked miracles on some pretty bad floors (among lots of other things). One of the things we appreciated about Buckminster Green was that they carve out time in their schedule for specific projects - we weren't competing with other projects for their attention, and always felt that our home was a priority. Also, they really went out of their way to make sure we were happy, working with us to implement creative solutions when necessary. We hope to work with Buckminster Green again in the future.

Thank you, Lauren. This was a special project for us. It was a challenge undoing so many bad decisions that had been made in the house over the years. But in the end we uncovered a lot of the original character and made the third floor better suited for the way you live.

I hired Buckminster Green to manifest my roof-deck-oasis-vision. Kenny made sure everything was installed skillfully and artistically. Browyn provided excellent customer relations: returning broken items and ordering new ones and researching and ordering the specific things on my list-- including a Purrfect Fence (brand name) that was installed around the perimeter of the deck to make it cat-safe and a 400 pound fountain. Also included in the project: installing a pergola, leveling the floor and installing wooden eco-friendly floor boards and assembling three large rustic planters. Kenny knew who to call to install beautiful plants in my planters as well. Kenny is very "chill," and easy to work with. If you have a big job you want done well...these guys rock!

We’ve worked closely with Buckminster Green on every important renovation in our loft unit, and to the building—a former factory—in which we live. Again and again, inside—custom barn doors, custom windows, reclaimed wood floors—and out—an entryway, steps, outdoor lighting—Kenny and his crew have provided expert guidance, consummate craft, and the highest degree of integrity and professionalism. For the better part of a decade, Buckminster Green has helped us to realize our visions, and to affirm our values, within budget and without compromise.

Thanks Doug and Felicia. It has been a pleasure working with you.
Gave attention to the health effects of products they used, i.e. low or no VOCs. We're meticulous about our rigorous goals for air sealing and insulation in a tricky retrofit. Knowledge about special products to achieve a high environmental standard, and willing to learn about and incorporate new one. Flexible and creative about problem solving design issues. All this, plus calm and pleasant throughout, and the finished rehab is lovely.

Thanks Amy. Tackling the challenges of your underinsulated home gave us a chance to work through Passive house details in a remodeling setting. We learned a lot and I'm very proud of the results. And it got us in the newspaper!
They remodeled a bathroom doing plumbing and tile work. Currently they are installing a new heating system and hot water heater. Their staff are exceptionally friendly, professional and accommodating and do an excellent job. A pleasure to work with.

I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my experience with Buckminster Green, and will address both Bronwyn Reice's design services and Kenny Grono's talented contractor services.
We purchased a row house in the Fitler Square section of Philadelphia in 2010 with the intention to perform a comprehensive rehab, the scope of which was at that time unclear to us. We worked with an architect to develop a plan, and then looked for a builder. We received several builder recommendations, and met individuals from some of these companies. We also did some research to find someone with whom our communication style would be compatible. Buckminster Green's name kept coming up as a company that used thoughtful, eco-friendly, practices and seemed to be right-sized for our project. I met Kenny for the first time in the summer of 2013.
Right off the bat Kenny's approach resonated with us. He insisted on visiting our suburban home to see our lifestyle and, it turns out, to assess our interaction with each other on our home turf. During that first meeting we did not get into the specifics of the project, but instead we were able to take each other’s measure. This was very wise. I found Kenny’s direct manner, using a minimum of words unless more were needed, to be exactly right. He explained his use of a web site for communication and documentation of design decisions, which is very efficient for busy people. My husband and I knew that we could work with Kenny, and thought it was likely that we’d still be friends at the end of the project (we are!). We proceeded to enter the contract process, which was straightforward and easy, not because it was simple but instead because Kenny took the time to seriously address each item. For example, when I seemed stuck on a relatively minor point, Kenny took the time to ask me why it was important. When I explained that I had lived in a house in which this particular feature had never worked properly, he immediately understood my concern and we were able to move on. By this time, I had developed quite a high degree of trust in Kenny and in the process. Kenny’s understanding of the emotions involved in the construction process was extremely helpful throughout the project. This was not my first renovation project, so I understood that in every project there comes a time when you just want it to be done and over. Kenny understood this completely, and I learned to rely on his good sense when I was tempted to make decisions with an eye towards expedience. I should also mention that Kenny’s project manager, Scott, was the person with whom I had day-to-day contact. Scott was tireless in his execution. My hat is off to Buckminster Green for staffing the project in this manner, and for selecting a person like Scott to fill this role. While I’m mentioning Buckminster Green’s staff I should also say that this company, unlike others, has full time staff who were assigned to my project. I grew to like and trust these men, who worked tirelessly to build my house. I think about them frequently, and miss them now that the project is over.
The actual work was extremely complicated, as we ended up removing all the walls and floors, leaving only a shell, also adding stories and digging out the basement. We endeavored to fit a lot of function into a small space. Kenny went above and beyond any expectation so that every inch counted. Kenny’s selections were of the highest quality, beyond what I would have known to ask for. Kenny never, ever cuts corners. Not even once. As the project progressed, each stage of the work was a sight to behold. The skill and care with which the parts that would eventually be hidden in the wall was assessed was remarkable. I was delighted every time I visited the house with the progress and the beauty. Kenny’s standard selections and choices, even for simple things, delighted me every time. For example, it turns out that window trim can be a spectacular design aspect if well done.
At a certain point, after making a house full of decisions, I became totally incapable of making any more choices. In stepped very talented Bronwyn Reice. With Bronwyn on the team I began to have some fun. We shopped for some things and she validated other selections that I had made. We were able to move quickly through the color choices, the cabinet selections, the stone, and tile selections. It is absolutely clear to me that Bronwyn’s involvement made the house spectacular instead of simply nice. I suspect that Bronwyn has a different design sensibility from mine, but you would never know it from her work. The hallmark of a great designer is that she can translate good design into the framework of the client’s preferences. Bronwyn did this with great skill. A million times during the project I was able to lean on Bronwyn. I have not previously worked with a designer, so I didn’t know how valuable it is to have a trusted sounding board. I’m so grateful that she was able to participate in this renovation!
The actual process of construction is straightforward: hammers, nails, drywall, plumbers, etc. That's pretty straightforward. It’s the way it all gets put together that differentiates the good builder from the great one. Buckminster Green is the builder you will hire if you wish you could do it yourself, if you set only the highest standards, and if you are a perfectionist. The contracted price was fair, there were no hidden costs, and the work was of the highest quality. Kenny and his staff are experienced builders in Philadelphia who know the ropes, and are extremely nice people. It would not be possible for me to recommend Buckminster Green any more highly.

Comment from Buckminster Green LLC:
Thank you, Terri. What I think many people don't understand, until they go through a renovation, is the relationship that develops when client and contractor spend so much time working together. You said so many generous things about our team, but I know that without your organizational skills and ability to adjust when unforeseen circumstances came up, the entire process could have unfolded much differently. I'm glad you and Mark are enjoying your new home, but I figured you would - it's a great house. Mostly I'm glad the dogs are adjusting to city life.

Kenny from Buckminister Green was the general contractor for our apartment in Rittenhouse Square. From the beginning, he was very easy to work with and had great ideas on how to use the space in our apartment. The apartment was completely gutted and Kenny helped us every step of the way. For us, what impressed us the most was not only his construction and design skills, but his very effective communication. He sent us weekly status reports on Fridays which really made the 6 month project that much easier. He was very accessible via phone and e-mail and all of his sub-contractors that he hired went above and beyond to do a great job. The finished state is quite impressive and we really owe a lot to Kenny and his team for making the whole process seamless and easy. We keep teasing that we need to find another apartment so we can hire him again.

Thank you for the review. We enjoyed working on your project. It was quite a transformation.
We've used Buckminster Green for 3 separate projects dating back to 2009: a major bathroom remodel (they did design), a 800 sf patio and screened in porch (design and build) and a 3rd floor renovation (to create a studio space and home office).
BG brings a wonderful design sense - pragmatic, original, and able to quickly scale from affordable to splurge. For instance, we've done a huge external vent, two-sided gas fireplace with beautiful custom tile, a walk-in shower, a big external patio with screened-in porch that is a show piece. The office and shelving work is more utilitarian.
Kenny and his team are friendly, easy to have in the house, and they are no-drama. They get it done...which is why we've gone back repeatedly.
Highly recommend for eco-sensitive, thoughtful design and build.

Whole house renovation of Victorian townhouse -- from structural, HVAC, plumbing to finishes. We also used their design services which were very helpful and affordable.
First and foremost, Buckminster Green staff and their sub-contractors did high quality work for us. What sets them apart from other contractors is great "bedside manner." Buckminster provided high touch communication from start to well after finish. Our project even got its own website where we managed our design selections, work progress, etc. The staff are prompt and courteous -- our new neighbors even complimented us on how polite they were during the work. After the project completed -- and well after our last check cleared -- Kenny remains in touch, resolving any issue or quickly responding to our questions.

Thank you for this review. We loved working on your home and are very proud of how it turned out. We should also say that we can't take full credit for the design. It was truly a collaborative process, and we would have never come up with an Edward Gorey mural for the dining room, but we love it!
Kenny and the crew at Buckminster Green really illuminated a pathway to designing a project in a tough, older building. They helped us deliver all of the modern amenities our clients wanted, all the while maintaining as much of the original fabric of the space as possible. I would highly recommend Buckminster Green for any contracting project. They are excellent people; friendly and knowledgable!

I have worked with many contractors over the years and I can happily testify to my experience working with Ken and his subcontracts as being a highly positive experience. There were no problems that weren't addressed immediately. My project involved the restoration of a kitchen, powder room and other areas after a flood occurred. The work was scheduled flawlessly and the subcontractors were all very capable. I have no reservation about recommending Buckminster Green and only wish I had found them sooner!

Kenny Grono and his crew at Buckminster Green did a great job under difficult circumstances. They are professional, courteous to a fault, and meticulous. We had kenny's carpenters, a plumber, and an electrician on our bathroom renovation, and all of them were not only punctual, but also completely cleaned up after themselves, and did a great job.
I would recommend them for any renovation or building work you might have.

Buckminster Green is an exceptional remodeling company who is both a master in craftsmanship, and design. Kenny Grono and his crew know how to utilize the original integrity of the home while incorporating modern green technology and design. Having worked on many of Buckminster Green’s projects, they are always smart and creative, leaving the homes they work on rejuvenated and inspired. I have been it the business for over 20 years -- they are a cut above the rest.

Kenny completed our kitchen renovation during the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012. From our first meeting, Kenny was able to help us with ideas to construct the kitchen that we wanted, led us to the right places to look for counters, cabinets, etc, and always answered all of our questions in a timely fashion. We had quite a large renovation that included taking down walls (both interior and some exterior), we had a deck added to our backyard, French doors that open to our deck, all new cabinets, appliances, lights, countertops, and pulls.
Kenny and his team at Buckminster Green always cleaned up after themselves, let us know exactly what was going to be accomplished each day/week during the actual renovation, and every person that was in our house was respectful (we live in a twin and our neighbors even complimented them on how wonderful they were).
We receive compliments all the time on our kitchen. It has made our live so much easier, and it is the main place in our house that we spend the most time! I would most definitely hire Kenny again for future projects, and recommend him to other clients.

Kenny Gronau and the staff of Buckminster Green have done a great deal of work for me over the past several years. They changed my ground floor into a bright and open space my making two rooms into one, redoing the powder room to make space for those changes. They changed the kitchen area by removing cabinets and putting in windows, creating a bright and open area which is easy to to work in. They also turned two tiny bedrooms into one spacious and bright room and built a closet for and installed a washing machine and dryer.
The men were always punctual, reliable, well mannered and responsive to my wishes. They cleaned up after themselves when they left each day and helped me in small ways around the house when they were here.
I will continue to ask Kenny and Buckminster Green to make any improvements in my home in the future.

I can't say enough about the amazing job we received from Buckminster Green. If you are looking for a team that can deliver well crafted project within or in addition to your home, they are a great place to go. Kenny is well aware of sustainability issues, and can help you weigh options with that in mind. I did not realize when we hired them that they bring a strong ability to support the design / style decisions that continue to appear through a typical project. A true professional who can help keep you sane through what is usually a trying process!

Complete demo and remodel of kitchen. Built out on original structure and added a bathroom. The entire project was completed as scheduled. Everyone was exceptionally pleasant to work with and have in our house. We spend hours in our new kitchen (now 2 years old) and feel that the money and time was worth it and we feel that Kenny Grono and his team are fantastic!

Kenny and Buckminster Green succeed where many other builders fail. They deliver quality work at a fair price with a focus on green building and green technology. The economics of green building have reached a point where you can make an eco-conscious choice without breaking the bank. Kenny and his company are at the forefront, providing fair quotes for exceptional work.
Buckminster Green were nothing less than professional in the 3-4 times we've worked with them. They return emails and phone calls immediately, they're prompt when delivering quotes, punctual for appointments.
Perhaps most important to many, however, is their creativity in design and materials. They've provided reclaimed materials to help distinguish our property from the cookie cutter options at home improvement stores. Their years of experience has resulted in a knowledge set that informs their style and skill set.
Highly recommended!

Kenny and his team are not only very experienced builders, they are stewards of the environment. His team is perfect for any home owner looking for affordable, eco-friendly renovations.
What I appreciate most about Kenny and his team is that they spend time educating their clients so that they can make informed decisions. Buckminster Green is not your average construction service. They are thoughtful, creative and most importantly, fun to work with. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to renovate, or add to their home in a earth friendly way.
