Carolina Custom Homes built a plan that I chose from the Frank Bentz website. I made a lot of changes, a first floor 5th bedroom to a study, opening to the family room instead of the hallway. changed a seasonal porch to a year round sun room, moved windows on the first floor to ensure good daytime lighting, eliminated a fireplace, along with several other changes. I have built 5 homes and this was my best experience ever. Carolina Custom Homes EXCEEDED my expectations. The attention to detail and the work being done properly was paramount for them. If something was done wrong, a door opening slightly smaller, the driveway stamping not perfect, etc., they required the contractors to redo correctly. There was no discussion, debate on it. I bought the land from them as well, with the entire process between myself and Carolina Custom Homes, no in between realtor (Mike has a realtor license) which meant there was no "he said, she said". Everything was always a rational discussion. An amazing experience throughout. I highly recommend this builder! Mike is a level headed, pleasant personality that wants to please the customer throughout. After dealing with him for the 6 month period, I concluded "no" is not in his vocabulary. His ultimate goal is to do what the customer wants, not what is easiest for him.

Before being referred to Mike and Carolina Custom Homes, we had been through many difficulties and challenges with finding a builder. After meeting with Mike, giving him our plans and our budget, he was very helpful in finding where we make cost-effective changes, but still have the great quality we were looking for. Mike is very personable and his level of communication and knowledge is top notch. If a question or concern arose during construction, Mike always responded quickly and professionally. He scheduled subcontractors very timely, so there was very little delays throughout the entire build. All contractors chosen by Mike, showed high quality workmanship and character. We are so pleased with our new home and would absolutely recommend Mike and Carolina Custom Homes and Renovations for your new home or your next project!

We had a garage repurposed into a rec room and a full bathroom added to an existing crawl space. Additionally, a new deck and garage were built onto the back of the house. Mike's bid came in much lower then others. We were a little nervous "corners might be cut" to help the bottom line. That could not of been further from the truth! The project was challenging due to the slope of the lot and making the transition from the existing house to the addition. Mike recommended hiring a design architect who drew up plans. My husband and I were consistently pleased with the quality of work and Mike's responsiveness to our ideas, budget and concerns throughout the process. He always fully addressed any questions and very frequently checked in to make sure we were pleased with the work. He was very willing to make changes if things were not exactly what we had hoped. Mike was incredibly dedicated to producing an end result that we would love. His suggestions and visions were a tremendous help. We would recommend him to any of our friends and would certainly use him again if we had any future construction needs.

My wife and I were needing a kitchen update and our budget didn't allow us to go for the complete tear out and start with a clean slate. My wife saw Mike's work in a neighborhood home of another friend that had just completed a remodel/addition. After visiting with Mike and talking about what we could and couldn't do in our older home based on our budget. We decided to have Mike complete all of the work. (new electrical, new can lights in the kitchen, granite countertops, backsplash, old cabinets prepped and repainted with new hinges and pulls, plus appliances) In dealing with older homes things are always unseen, Mike didn't try to nickel and dime us with add ons due to the old house issues. They did they work they said they would do and made it look fantastic! All the work was done in a timely fashion, Mike and his team made it look like we started from a clean slate. We even had one neighbor say she loved the new cabinets, she was shocked to hear they were originals just repainted. We couldn't be happier with the completed project. All of his people were timely, respectful of our home and didn't complain when a minor change was made. Embarking on a kitchen/main floor remodel is a major undertaking but with two children under 3, it felt almost un-manageable. Mike and his team made the process as smooth as possible with care and consideration for our family. Carolina Custom Homes always went the extra step for us and gave us the kitchen we always dreamed of having in this home. Even with numerous delays from our cabinet manufacturer and appliance deliveries (of no control to Mike and his team) he kept working around these issues to keep us on track. We hired Mike to renovate and add onto our 1950's ranch. We knew it would be a big challenge because of the age of the home, the scope of work, and the fact that we'd be living in the home with our kids and dog during the 3-4 month process. Mike rose to the challenge and did not disappoint! We chose Mike because his attention to detail was way beyond that of his competitors. He also offered the most creative and cost-effective solutions for our home. He has a flair for not just building, but also designing - that's hard to find. When we came across some surprises, as you always do in a home of this age, Mike always presented the information to us in a way we could understand and worked with us to keep our costs down. He was even on our roof in the middle of the night in the pouring rain when we had some unexpected weather problems (more rain and snow than anyone has seen in a decade!). That is commitment! We feel he was extremely fair and went above and beyond what we expected of him. His team was highly professional and respectful of our family and our home. Mike is a very smart, talented contractor that is committed to quality work. He is a great guy with a fun personality, which makes working with him a pleasure. We would highly recommend Mike and would definitely use him again.

Mike and his team at Carolina Development were professional, responsive and provide high quality work. Mike was extremely helpful with our screened in porch as he provided recommendations to us when we were building our house that allowed for the cost of the screened in porch to be less and the project to go smoother. Anytime we had any questions, Mike was quick to respond. Very pleased with their quality and would certainly hire them again for a project!

Mike has done three major home renovation projects for us this far. Each one of them has been outstanding from start to finish!!! We are 100% satisfied with his quality, craftsmanship, professionalism, and value of the renovation. No project is too big or small. He has knocked down a wall and installed a beam, installed a French door, refinished floors (to include fixing a 1.5in grade transition), installed cabinets and granite, removed popcorn ceiling, paint, new carpet, replaced numerous light fixtures, installed new HVAC, and a moisture barrier--just to name a few. As with any renovation, sometimes issues come up in older homes...we discovered an infestation of carpenter ants. Mike replaced the cedar siding and fixed the problem, saving us thousands down the road! You name it, he can do it and your project will not be complete until the customer is 100% satisfied. Mike provided us with a quote and kept the project at/under budget and on time! He and his team treat your home as if it were their own; each day they clean up (more than me!) and allowed for us to still occupy our home. He does an excellent job of coordinating all aspects of the renovation from beginning to end. We have a few more projects in mind and plan on using Carolina Custom Homes and Renovations! We hired these folks to build us a new house and are still counting our blessings. All you hear about are the horror stories...we had the best possible experience throughout the entire project. Mike helped us pick the home site, clear the land, pick a plan and tweak it....every time we needed help he was there with vast knowledge and good advice. He is a hardcore scheduler...so we never wondered what was happening and when. The house turned out fantastic...no surprises....just what we envisioned and within the budget. We had them come back and build a large shop recently and just like the house it turned out fantastic. If you are remodeling or building....THIS IS YOUR GUY. Mike has done two projects for us and neither went as planned, since our 46 year old house was built without the use of a level or square and it has been previously "improved" by the former owners without regard for code or common sense. Mike has taken great care to guide us through the renovation process twice and we expect he may come back again soon for the granddaddy of all renovations upstairs. The wife and I both recommend him.

We hired Carolina Custom Homes for an addition over 2 years ago. Recently we noticed a leak in the roof where the addtion and original structure met. I called Mike to discuss and he came over to asses the situation very quickly. He identified the problem with the roof, beginning work to remedy the issues immediately. Aside from the roof repairs, Mike needed to replace sheet rock, a pocket door and repaint a portion of the room. He did this all outside of the warranty period and at his cost. I will certainly be calling on Mike and his team for future proejcts!
