I am an architect and real estate developer. I have been working with Donnie, Travis and their fantastic team for over 30 years, almost exclusively. The best in the business. They are the most professional, high quality, budget orientated builders. Currently they are managing a $20 million residential project for me in Stowe, Vt. I am a landscape architect who recently completed a collaboration with this company on a large custom residential project. DBI did a major renovation of our Vermont vacation home that entailed a new living room, a new two car garage, a complete renovation of the kitchen and master bedroom/bathroom, and all new windows. The project began in January and finished ahead of schedule in June. Overall the experience was exceptional -- the quality of the workmanship, the end result, and the project management all exceeded our expectations. The team led by Travis Cutler were true pros in every way, faithfully executing the design, solving a few challenges that arose, and suggesting some worthwhile enhancements, all the while communicating clearly with us every step of the way. We had very few issues after project completion and all were handled immediately. We could not be happier with the final result and the job DBI did to create a new house for us, and give them the highest possible recommendation.

We have worked with Donny Blake on two projects. The first was a total house renovation. Based on how well that went, when we decided to build a new house we did not seek multiple quotes, but went straight to Donny Blake, knowing the price would be fair, the quality exceptional, and the process smooth. Our building team, led by Travis Cutler, were always professional, more than capable, and helpful throughout both projects. We were particularly impressed by four aspects of our relationship: 1) We hired Donny Blake early in the design phase for our new house. Even well before construction began, his staff became integral partners with us and our architect, providing valuable input to the design to keep cost down and streamline the later building phase of the project. 2) We built a super-high efficiency house (Passive House certified) which at the time involved many new technologies and building processes. Travis and his crew never pushed back against using new and unfamiliar building techniques or systems, but instead researched and embraced them, adopting many as improvements to their standard practice going forward. More than just their flexibility, their proactive approach to understanding and adopting new ideas really impressed us. 3) Dealing with cost overruns is an inevitable part of any major project. In particular for our house project, there were several major surprises along the way. Rather than just presenting us the bill, Donny’s staff proactively sought quotes from additional suppliers or researched alternatives to keep cost in line and then discussed the alternatives with us. 4) Also inevitable in a big project are the occasional mistake. We only had a few, but each time, before we knew there was any issue, it was Travis Cutler who immediately brought it to our attention, provided a recommended plan to correct it, and accepted full responsibility for the issue and the cost to fix it. That sort of integrity seems to accompany everything Donny Blake does and is central to why we felt so comfortable with our overall experience. Overall we could not have been happier with our building experiences with Donny Blake and if we were to undertake another building project we would not hesitate to use them again.
