We hired him to redo our old, almost flat, roof (1927) into a Gambrel or 'barn-like' roof, to give attic space and redo the old wiring. We have had other contractors doing repairs that were not reliable. This crew knew what they were doing. They did a terrific job; were thorough, took pride in their work, and were very reliable. We had them return to rewire the entire house and again was very pleased. They know their craft and are hardworking. Hopefully, they will return for another phase of the project.

We hired Louis to do a complete remodel of our approx. 250 sq ft master bathroom. He did a fantastic job. Louis gave us suggestion on our design and completed all work way within the time frame promised and within the budget. He is very conscientious about the disruption of remodeling and our needs since we work at home.
Hire High Tech Construction and you will have a great experience.

Louis did a fantastic job on our home remodel! From demoing the existing front & back rooms and our hallway kitchen, including adding a new support beam he can do it all! Louis and his team installed new plumbing, kitchen cabinets, appliances, refinished & repainted the walls, including the hallway to the bedrooms, replaced the old heater ducting underneath our house, and including redoing the hardwood floors, Louis can do it all!! I highly recommend High Tech Construction for any home remodel you have planned.

We needed extensive remodeling of our house that we purchased in Santa Clara, CA. In addition to the remodeling of the kitchen, laundry and bathroom we needed to build a master suite. We knew it would be a challenge of doing this big job long distance from San Diego, CA. Louis Navas and High Tech Construction came highly recommended to do the job from our son and daughter-in-law who oversaw the project from start to finish. Most of the communications were done via e-mail and phone messages. The whole project took about nine months, longer than our initial estimate, because of some glitches/issues, and some jobs added on the way. Louis was trustworthy, dependable and easy to work with. He offered good advice and creative design tips, as needed. Louis worked with the city building inspector to make sure that the building code regulations were met to pass the inspection. The team seemed genuinely concerned in getting the job done with top quality craftsmanship and was sensitive to our own time constraints. Although this size project didn't finish without issues/problems that Louis took care of them promptly. With all the stress that we had with the problems in remodeling, selling the San Diego house, and the move Louis tried to make us relax with his positive attitude and sense of humor. He handled all parts of the job with his years of experiences. He does everything, from tiling to electrical to carpentry. Overall, Louis and his team did a very professional and nice job. I have couple of suggestions for him to do even better. He should be very clear in writing the contract to avoid misunderstanding. Lot of things may be clear to him but not to the client. This will help everyone to be on the same page. The other thing is that to think through the overall project as much as possible, and advice the client ahead of time with itemized lists necessary for the job. It is difficult to get things right away to meet his needs because everyone works, and it always cost more to purchase things at the last minute. Thank you Louis for doing this job to meet our needs. There’ll be more jobs around this house for you in the future.
Thanks, Sircar

I am a single working women, so I was unable to be home at the time he was able to squeeze in my door install due to me having to be at work. He e-mailed me the night before that he could squeeze me in the next day; as I had contacted him a few times times over last two weeks since the initial visit and he always promptly responded. I trusted him by leaving the key under front door mat for him based on his credentials noted on Houzz and Red Beacon websites and the referral from Home Depot. The following day he returned to get paid and return my key and install the lock I had gone and picked out myself. I was off that Friday.
Louis does very nice work. However, there was some verbal miscommunication on the type of door (2-6) panel type. Initially I sent him e-mail pictures of the hall at his request. In the picture it also shows the picture of the inside of my 6 panel front door. When he came over to see the hallway in person, he suggested I use a 2 panel round top glossy door to match my other 2 panel glossy round top interior doors, as It would look more professional. I told him I totally agreed with him and to get a 2 panel glossy round top panel door instead so it would match. I was left under the impression that he would be getting a brand new 2 panel glossy round top smooth door that would match the other interior doors in my house; as I seen him scribble something in his note pad when we discussed the door. We came to the agreement that he would do the job for $500.00 cash, which would also included installing the lock and some overhead work.
However when I came home I saw that he had installed a primed 6 panel door. I called him and complemented him on the nice job and asked him why he put a we 6 panel door instead of a 2 panel round top door we had agreed on. His voice and tone changed and he seemed to start to get upset and told me I had insisted on the 6 panel. I told him no that I had agreed with him to get a 2 panel door. He insisted that no I didn't. I then told him it was not a big deal. That the job he had done was nice and that the 6 panel door was ok. And left it at that, as I don't like to argue. Than I asked him what time he was coming the next morning and we hung up.
He did mention to me during his initial visit that i would have to paint the hall where he installed the door or he could paint it for an additional $100-150, as he was also going to do some overhead work on the top of the Pre-hung door, so there wouldn't be a gap between the top of the door and the ceiling. I told him I would paint it. But I didn't think I was going to have to paint a brand new door too. The door he bought also has black smudges on the top trimming.
The next morning when he came to get paid I asked about him about the black grainy smudges and he stated he had to dig it out from the back of store room/warehouse, but once I painted the door trim they would disappear . He did also give me tips on how to paint it. I did ask him if he could exchange it, he said he could, but I would have to pay about another $100-150 for his time and coming from Morgan Hill to Salinas again. I agreed to keep this door as I am not going to shell out another $100-150 to exchange it and well it doesn't look bad either. It just doesn't match my other interior doors, but it does somewhat match my front metal door. Hopefully and Maybe once I paint the door it will look so much better. I also noticed as I was taking the pictures below for this review that the trim also has several small dents, one is rather deep. So I changed my 4 star to a 3 star.
Overall, Louis did a very nice job on my hall door install. However, If I ever need construction in my home again, next time I will get all the details and everything in writing from whomever is doing the job, so we are both on the same page and there is no miscommunication. And I will get a written Itemized contract and receipt.
Louise seems to be very honest and trustworthy, personable and except for the miscommunication and primed door and trim that needs painting, he did do a very professional and very nice job at what I think is a reasonable price. I will recommend him to my friends and co-workers but suggest that they get everything in writing so all are on the same page and for clarity. And So there is no miscommunication.
In hindsight, I too will insist on getting itemized contracts in writing with itemized details and prices if I ever need a contractor again. Or maybe next time I will go to Home Depot and pick out the door myself and pay for it and have the contractor just pick it up and install it and charge me only the labor and installation. Which I think I should asked him if we could have done it this way this time in the first place. Lesson Learned :-)
Louis seems like a very nice, trustworthy and personable person. I have changed it now from 4 to 3 stars because of the new found small dents just found as taking close up pictures for this review and as originally stated because for the mismatched primed Pre-hung door, un-washable black grainy smudges on the top of door trim and just now noticed small dents on the trim and the miscommunication, but other than that, the work done was very professional looking and very nice. I was impressed with his work. And I would recommend him to others. But advise others to get a detailed itemized contract and receipt.
Thank you Louis.
Update: I contacted Louis again and again express to him to please exchange to door or at the very least exchange the top of the door trim for one that was not smudged, grainy and dented he totally refused to acknowledge that anything is wrong with the trim even tho the pictures clearly show the damaged trim. He simply refuses to remedy the situation in anyway shape or form. Although he does very nice work in construction, to me, he lacks work in the way he treats some of his customers.

Comment from HIGH TECH CONSTRUCTION:
In respond to Sandy,
Sandy contacted me to install a door in her home since she was planing to rent two of the bedrooms in her house for additional income. As you enter her home, you will enter into a small entrance foyer, to the left side of the foyer you will face three doors, (two panel door construction doors). Two of the doors are leading to two bedrooms, the remaining door to the bathroom. The remaining hallway leading towards the back leads to the rest of the house, this is where she wanted the additional door installed. to separate her home.
I have being in the construction industry for 30 plus yrs. In our meeting the first thought in my mind to her, we are going to match the adjacent proposed door to the existing doors ? I must remind you, all of this doors are about 6'' apart from each other, her answer was, NO, her respond was, I like to match the main entrance door, that is a SIX Panel door, her respond was, she wanted to match the main entrance door since that would be now the main entrance to her now remaining one bedroom home for her self.
So I did what the customer wanted, after the job was completed, she called and said that I installed the wrong door, I responded, Sandy why are you coming up with this now after the job is completed?
Her respond was, Louis, I can live with the door.
Keep in mind I did what she wanted, sandy likes to do things out the normal from the construction standards, beside of accusing me of installing the wrong door. Before I started the job, I said to sandy, if you want me to install the lock, please pick up a regular passage lock with a key since this is now going to be the second entrance door to her place. She purchase DEATH BOLT lock, this kind of locks are used as secondary lock above the passage lock. I mention to her, the death bolt lock is not for this door, her answer was, I want to use this lock and please installed it. My respond was, how are you going to pull open or close the door since they don't have a grip end? her respond was, I purchase drawer handles to be screwed on the surface of the door. so I did what she wanted. she paid me for the job after it was completed.
Lets do a re cap, I installed the wrong door, Installed a death bolt lock as a passage lock, I surface mounted drawer handle as way to grab the door to either close it of open.
I day goes by and she sends me an email and accusing me of installing a used door in her home since it was little dirty or smudgy , The doors comes from the manufactory primed and they get men handle from the shipping yards to the Home Depot, In her e-mail she stipulated that she want to see the receive for the door when purchased, my respond to the e-mail was, I don't have the receive since I charge it to my account and I don't worry about keeping the receives since I will get a copy of all of my purchase at the end of the month.
I received another e-mail from Sandy stipulating that she was going to take me to small claims court for installing a used door and I will have to answer and proof to the judge that I don't have a received.
I responded with another email, please look in your garbage cans, you will see the cardboard and the strapping materials that was wrap on the new door. I also mention to her, please go to the HOME DEPOT and see the same doors for sale, you will see they all have the same factory finishing's and the doors are the same looking and the same packaging materials as in her garbage cans.
By the following day I had enough of this none scene, went to the Home Depot, communicated with the manager, explain to him my situation with Sandy, gave him my credit card and he looked up the original purchase invoice received, got a copy, I took a picture of the same doors for sale in the Home Depot and email her the information. Finally the emails stopped of accusing me installing a used door.
Following day she send me another email that the trim has some smudges and the door has small tiny dents, they don't match her existing fishing's.
My respond was, Sandy, You refuse to pay me to paint the door, you mention that your daughter was going to take care of the painting. I mention to you that it should be painted by a professional, they fill in all imperfections that they may possibly be seen. I even try to give her some good tips on how to do it her self.
The original verbal agreement, was to install the correct door and she would take care of the painting.
In the state of California, if the job is more the $750.00 you need a contract, this job was on $500.00, we did a verbal contract, I have installed 100's of the doors in my life time without any issues.
We all know if we purchase any wood products for our home, no matter what color they come, we have to paint them to match our homes, Sandy thinks that it should match her home and no painting is require.
I'm glad she posted the pictures, the second pictures shows the main entrance door, look closely, it's a six panel door. Look closely to the right and you will see two panel door. The arch wall was also installed by me to match her home style.
There is nothing wrong with the job, it just needs to be completed correctly by hiring a professional to paint the door.

Louis did a very quality job for a very reasonable price. My mobile home had extensive ceiling damage and the paneling was outdated. I thought new sheet rock was needed. Louis was able to reconstruct my ceiling, better than new at about 1/3 the price of sheet rock. He was always timely and professional. He definitely knows what he is doing.

I required a full bath remodel and Louis Navas and High Tech Construction were hired to do the job. From the beginning, Louis was easy to work with; offering good advice, creative design tips, fresh ideas, and never once made me feel like my finished vision was off the mark, or a little over the top. He showed me ways I could do more for less, and in the end, the finished product is stunning. His attention to detail is on par with the best. The team seemed genuinely concerned in getting the job done with top quality craftsmanship and were sensitive to my own time constraints. They worked with the city and acquired all the correct permits, cleared out debris as the project moved along, went the extra mile in fixing, repairing, and rerouting, and now there are moments when I just go into the new bathroom, sit there, and admire the pleasant, peaceful, energy-efficient, getaway room we created. It just couldn’t be nicer (for the money). Thanks for the beautiful work. There’ll be more jobs around this house for you in the future.
October 9, 2015
I will start with bottom line: Louis is a nice guy and responds quickly and professionally to customers needs but in the end the problem with him is the same problem as with all contractors in Bay Area - they charge ridiculous, unreasonable amounts of money and do the job that lacks attention to detail. Now the whole story. I had to install a new entry door and lower the floor in the foyer by one foot to be level with the rest of the house. All in all it was a one day job. Louis was one of 3 contractors I called. To be fair Louis’ quote was closest to reality - 3000$ - but still way too high in my opinion. One of the other guys from Bow’s Construction sent me a very fancy itemized quote - margin this/margin that - 7000$. The last guy from Ontimio Builders looked at the pictures and said it was too much framing work, like I would have to reframe the whole house and it would cost me 9000$ - 15000$. Louis first looked at pictures and description I sent, gave me an estimate and when I agreed came to my house to confirm. A couple of days later he sent me the contract to sign. The whole negotiation was pleasant and took a few days - no voice mails, no missed appointments, no unreturned calls etc. - all usual attributes to an average contractor in Bay Area. The work started on time and took two days. Louis worked with a helper. The impression was that they worked in a hurry because some other contract was waiting in a pipeline. After they left on the first day the lock on the door was installed at 60 degrees - how can’t you notice that? I had to point it out the next day. They started wiping the floor making clouds of dust across the house. I had to give them my own vacuum cleaner. For the amount of money they charge they should be well equipped themselves. They took my trash can, filled it with demolition debris and left it there. I had to figure out where to put my trash until the garbage collection day. These are minors. The biggest problem was that I asked Louis to check the door header for termite damage. He said the termite damage was minimal. A few days after they left I removed the drywall above the door and realized that the header was completely destroyed by termites. It was all dust and I had to vacuum it out and figure out what to do with the door and stucco being already installed. The header had to be replaced before the door installation. The door didn’t close well because the lock face plate was not installed neatly and was catching the strike plate when closing the door. I had to fix it myself. May be everything is measured in comparison. May be other contractors are worse. But this doesn’t sound encouraging does it?

Comment from HIGH TECH CONSTRUCTION:
In respond to Mr Agostev unfair review,
The contract stipulated very CREARLY to remove the existing raised flooring and install the front door ONLY.
The contract doesn't stipulate anything about removing or checking the header or replacing the header, it was never mention to me that he had termite damages throughout the house, judging the history off the home.
Upon taking the door apart, I brought it to his attention that he had some termite damage at the bottom sill that we removed, and should contact a termite specialist, his respond was, he did already, he mention he had termite damage THROUGHOUT the house.
During the construction process he never mention that the header would possibly be needing replacement due to the termite history off the house, I'm sure the termite report would have stipulate "termite damage throughout the house", He knew that already. Half of his house is dismantle apart due to termite damages and construction in progress by him or others.
After the door was installed and completed, he approached me and ask me about the header, I stipulated to him that it show some surface termite damage below the 1-1/2 edge of the 2 x , but could't see inside the walls. I wouldn't be able to see completely unless I remove the rest of wall board apart. The original job was to install the door and remove the flooring ONLY..
The lock was one degrees off, it's INPOSSIBLE to install a lock 60 degrees off since the holes in the death bolt wouldn't MATCH or ALLOW me to install the lock, we adjusted the lock next day, Mr Agostev isn't truthful with his descriptions and he is exaggerating.
Unfortunately we forgot the vacuumed at the shop that morning and since Mr Agostev home is under construction without permits, we saw he had a vacuumed, we ask if we can use it. I regret asking to use the vacuumed.
After removing all of the garbage away, we had a total of maybe of three gallon, equivalent of dust and small debris after sweeping the job, yes we did place it in his garbage, didn't fill the whole garbage can as he exaggerated.
Mr Agostev purchase double inexpensive front metal doors with pre-factory drilled holes to accept the locks and striker plates for the bolt cylinders on the side of the doors, we can only use what the factory metal frame allows to complete the job. The bottom line on purchasing materials is, you get what you pay for.
Mr Agostev has no Idea what is to be a legit contractor in the construction industry in California, his remarks as fallow " THEY CHARGE RIDICULOUS, UNRESONABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY"
Let me educate you what it cost me to stay in business, and why you pay such miniscule ammount off $3,000.00
As a contractor in California hold a main license that cost me $500. yearly.
Every town municipality that I work, I have to get a working license for the amount of $150, I currently hold close to 100 of this licenses.
I have workers compensation ins that starts at $2,000 per year and it can go up to 10k to 20 k depending on work load.
My dump truck cost me to insure per year $1,000.00 and to register a commercial vehicle another $1,000.00
Mi liability insurance that cost me yearly $2,000.00 and up depending on work load.
Two pickup trucks to register and insure $2,000.00
I hold specialty licenses certified by the state of California for hazardous materials in the construction industry that I must have according to California at a range in cost off $1000 not including the classes.
I have a 3,000 sq ft house ware house to store my equipment, shop to keep my doors open in the construction industry that cost me $2,000 per month.
Liability insurance for the shop $1,000.00
I can still go on the overhead cost to be a contractor in California if you like ?
I'm not your typical unlicensed contractor that you want to pay $200 to do your work
Mr Agostev is the kind of customer that likes to attached additional work load to the original work contract that isn't included.
He has no concept of the construction industry base on what I saw he was doing in his home and to place such a exaggerative review is just simply unfair.
At any time he could have come to me and said, Louis, your making to much dust, can we do something about it, he didn't. If he was unhappy he could have mention about the garbage issue, he didn't.
By mentioning this petty remarks on my review, you can see that he isn't happy camper no matter who does the work,
He paid me and not once did he express him self to me that he was unhappy, If he would have express him self to me, I would have done what ever I could to make him a happy camper, but he didn't, I send him an email to thank him for giving me the opportunity to work for him, ask him if he can reviewed me, with no respond back. Few weeks later I re send him the same email to see if he can review me and this is what he posted.
Not one time he contacted me. I can only do somuch.

Your craftsmanship and attention to detail reminders me so much of Canadian HGTV guru, Mike Holmes, DONE RIGHT, the first time! You have my absolute respect and admiration.

I have worked with Louis on a variety of kitchen and bath projects over the last 7 years. His work is always excellent, and his years of experiences means he can handle any part of the job, including whatever I throw at him! He does everything, from tiling to electrical to carpentry. My confidence in his work is so high, I have him do the remodeling on my own house!

I own a home in the Santa Cruz mountains and brought Luis Navas in when we needed to demolish and rebuild our dream home.
It first started with a new bridge since our home has a creek around it. His ingenious suggestion to build the new bridge on top of the old one save me a lot of money. As a contractor he found the civil engineer to design the bridge and submitted the plans for approval. He also acted as the vehicle for all the questions the planning dept. had with the civil engineer. The bridge is on the fire departments records as the official bridge to cross during an emergency for all properties on our side of the creek due to its design. I was so impressed with his engineering capabilities that we asked him to rebuild our dream home. He worked with our architect, geotechnical engineer, civil engineer and geologist to design a house that not only met all the stringent seismic requirements, hill side geological consideration, fire codes etc…but in a way that was sensitive to the native wildlife in an esthetic yet functional house for our family. Here is the kicker for us, not only did he help design and build a very complex project, he also did our small bathroom in our condo in silicon valley. The point being he does both large and small jobs. I did not talk much about the quality of his work since the pictures he shares says it all, impeccable. Yes, I would highly recommend Luis for your needs and he is my sole contractor when I need one. Once again, thank you Luis for our home.
