We worked with Kasten to get an estimate for how much our home remodel project would cost. Their estimate was by far the most detailed of the estimates we got from different GCs, and felt pretty solid when we dug into the various numbers. When the quotes for windows came in higher than we expected, they immediately started getting quotes from other providers. They clearly have good camaraderie, and respect for each other internally, in a way that gives me great confidence they're a solid team. They seem like a good group of people to work with. We're recommending them to friends and neighbors who are doing remodel or new construction projects.

Kasten Builders was our general contractor on our major remodel/addition to our new home in Kentfield, CA, just recently completed (March 2022). Their level of knowledge, professionalism, and dedication to our project went above and beyond our expectations. They worked seamlessly with our architect, and their subcontractors were highly experienced and meticulous in their work. We have worked with Kasten Builders for the last 2 years, from the inception of our project all the way through completion. We have had an excellent experience throughout this somewhat arduous process. Our project was a complete remodel of an existing 1970's structure. The house was taken down to the studs and then completely re-built. Kasten Builders are professional, friendly and great to work with. We definitely recommend them. The first photo is the before. We've worked with Kasten Builders on two projects and look forward to continuing the relationship. The projects were both remodels of 1960s modern style buildings, but had different requirements. For the custom home in Sonoma project there were a lot of repairs and technical aspects of the project, along with the full renovation of two bathrooms. Everything was done very well, and Kasten cared about quality and accuracy. There was good communication between the owner, contractor, and architect. For the other project, which was for a developer who intended to flip two units in a duplex, the scope of work was a general make-over with some structural work and the conversion of a garage into living space. Although the project was larger, the budget was smaller and our involvement was less. The developer is very satisfied with the outcome, and for all the areas we were involved in we were satisfied as well. As far as a weakness, the schedule did slip a little on this project. However, as in most situations, this was not entirely due to the contractor, as the owner made changes and the City was slow with some of the permit-related issues. In all our dealings, Pete and Denny Kasten and their staff have all been honest and straightforward. They're not afraid to take responsibility for mistakes, either. All in all, we really enjoy working with this company.

I had the fortunate opportunity to work with Pete Kasten and his project foreman Bob Rosetti on a recent project in Mill Valley. It involved a challenging 3-sided courtyard configuration around the shallow root system of mature Redwood trees. They handled the delicate nature of the foundation work with care and thoughtfulness and framed a project well ahead of schedule. Pete and his crews were able to stay on track with the hundreds of decisions necessary to make a remodel and addition successful and fall within the completion perameters set forth in the contract. The subs were professional and went out of their way to please the homeowner's needs. The contract pricing was competitive but they did not sacrifice customer service and quality on the back end.
