This was my first time dealing with a major house remodeling so I was both nervous and indecisive on all the work that needed to be done. I am so pleased with the results, I literally made an account on Houzz solely to write a review and elate my happiness to how my kitchen turned out. I only contacted a few contractors to get quotes, and found them all on Houzz. What set apart Peter was his attention to detail, integrity, and his thoroughness throughout the whole process. Seeing that I needed quite a few things done, he actually met with me in person to discuss the quote, point out all the areas of work to make sure he got it right, and patiently answered all my questions. He and his team of contractors work quickly and neatly, and I truly admire the quality of their work. This included: drywalling, insulation, cabinet installation/modification, electrical work, ductwork, and plumbing. He took his time on consulting what materials would be best, and is very knowledgable about many different topics. Even if he didn't know something, he admitted it, and consulted the right people to make sure I got the answers I needed. Every step of the way, I could call with some questions, or write him to get a very quick response. In a few cases where I had to have something changed or add something new, he was very quick to adapt. His work ethic is astounding, and I can tell he takes pride in the jobs he completes as if they were his own home. In places where there was customization (like sizing cabinets to fit extra appliances, or outfitting a wall for ventilation), he is brilliant in thinking of solutions, and the result is a very well made, lasting product. I’m so glad I chose him to help with our kitchen, and I will certainly be recommending him to everyone I know.

We had a great experience with Mergen, from the design stage to the final details. Most importantly, we LOVE our new spaces for their functionality and their aesthetic. Our work was both indoor and outdoor spaces and both areas came out beautifully! We met our design goals and stayed within a budget that we could handle. We felt listened to throughout the process and felt like we were working together with the contractors. We felt comfortable with all of the people who worked on the project and our house. We never questioned having them in our house during the day. They carefully explained each step and answered all of our questions. Along the way, there were details that needed to be changed or fixed and that was able to happen gracefully. After the work was complete, we had an issue arise, and it was dealt with immediately. Mergen Company prides themselves on excellent work and excellent communication. We experienced both!

Peter Mergen Remodeling was referred to us by some friends, and we contracted with them to renovate our kitchen in October 2017. The bulk of the work was completed in a timely manner just as we had hoped it would in time for the holiday season. From the initial meetings with Peter, we felt he answered all of our questions directly and honestly. The contracts were delineated with all of the specifics clearly outlined, and any concerns we had, he and his crew followed up immediately. There were a few challenges with our floor and cabinet doors and specific design problems and Peter was so willing to work with us in getting all of them addressed to our satisfaction. Chris’s ability to oversee the various subcontractors made the process effortless for us. Brian was our main day to day carpenter and was patient, neat, communicative and let us know what would happen when. Both of them allayed any concerns that came up. Peter is a man of high integrity and is a great communicator. He listened to our concerns, set realistic expectations and did his best to make us happy with the work. He and his crew also handle stress well, stay calm and are fun to have around. They are creative in coming up with solutions to little problems that emerge. All this is important in a job that can take a while to complete and that effects our every day life. This was our hope in working with a contractor and we were left very pleased with our choice! We highly recommend this team for their honesty, neatness, follow-up and total professionalism!

We hired Mergen Company to build a new bathroom in our basement earlier this year. From the first time we contacted Mergen Company until well after the work was completed on our project our experience was nothing short of extreme professional and positive. Beginning with the initial meeting to discuss our project needs, desires, and budget Peter Mergen was prompt, courteous (even offered to remove his shoes), and upfront about what his company could offer. He applied no pressure or sales pitches to us and genuinely wanted to be sure that he was the right fit for us and vice versa. A detailed estimate was provided soon after our initial meeting and from there we had several follow up meetings to fully discuss our plans and the final contract. Throughout this process Peter was flexible with timing and accessible by phone and email. Changes to the contract were not an issue and promptly documented. Also helpful was a list of project materials for us to purchase. We appreciated that Peter and his lead carpenter Kris provided input into our major purchases to ensure there would be no issues during the build phase. Construction on our project began within two weeks of the originally estimated date and was completed in the timeframe specified. The lead carpenter and all subcontractors were professional, trustworthy and considerate of our schedule. Any issues that arose during the build phase, even minor things like an accidental break of material, were promptly conveyed to us and resolved. The workmanship was of high quality and the contractors took care to protect our home with floor coverings and plastic sheets to keep dust contained. Finally, after construction was completed Mergen Company did not hesitate to inspect or resolve any issues that surfaced - for example we had a leak in our newly installed egress window identified during heavy rain. The issue was promptly attended to and has not recurred since. Mergen Company sets a high standard for contractors. We would highly recommend Mergen Company for any of your household needs and we would not hesitate to use them again for future projects.

Our house was built in 1845, and we have been working on it for nearly 10 years. Mergen Co. is the 2nd contractor we have worked with. To date, we have used them for at least 3 projects...ranging in scope from a few hundred, to several thousand dollars. What sets them apart from the first one is communication - Peter provides a clear estimate, with an established timeline for getting things done. If things change mid-project (hours built, 1845, we expect this...) he immediately lets us know of any set backs, and potential pricing implications. We could not be happier with the quality of work.

We had the Mergen team come in the fix some sagging joists in my basement crawl space that had been inexpricably cut right through by a plumber (before we owned the house). It was by a waste pipe so they had to remove the toilet, jack up the floor, secure the joists and replace the toilet. The crew was great - punctual, quick, friendly, and clean. We'll definitely recommend them to others and call them for our future projects.

I am very happy with Mergen Co. I had a sunroom installed a few years ago. The company cut corners and ignored building codes. Peter Mergen made a plan to fix the problems. They did what they were contracted to do when they said they would do it. No surprises!

The Mergen Company was the general contractor on our new kitchen. We were very pleased with the result. Their price was fair, the workmanship was excellent, and everything was explained thoroughly. All change orders were necessary and also explained. The subcontractors were also very professional and knew what they were doing. The site was always cleaned thoroughly at the end of the work day and the inevitable dust was kept to a minimum. We are happy to recommend Mergen.

Listened, Planned, Revised and Executed as Professionals We had visions of changing the interior of our home, including remodeling our den, transforming a hallway into a walk-in closet, enlarging doorways, replacing doors and rebuilding a sill in a bay window. We required a contractor that could turn random thoughts into reality. We found that contractor in the Mergen Co. Peter met with us several times, listening to our ideas, presenting plans and adjusting them each time we met. Peter made it clear, if we weren’t satisfied with his plans or prices, there was no obligation. Needless to say, we moved forward. On several occasions, we requested modifications to the original plans. These requests presented no problem for Haydon, Bill, Brian, Keith and Kris. As promised, disruption was kept to a minimum, even though the project involved working in several different areas of our home at the same time. From the beginning of the remodeling project to its conclusion, the entire team at Mergen Co. listened, planned, revised and executed as professionals.
