Owner Assisted Remodeling

Everything was fine until the end. Gene's crew replaced our front deck as requested. Deck was paid for. Crew was fabulous, friendly and professional. I asked to have the railing painted. One crew member was here painting for 2 days in January 2017. At the end of the second day he stated he'd be back to touch up after the coming rain stopped and that Gene wanted a check for $1,200. I gave the $1,200 check to the crew member. After a couple of weeks not hearing from anyone, I called Gene to ask when they'd be back to finish the painting. He told me that crew member no longer works for him and the $1,200 was for the labor and materials already provided. The materials (paint) were taken by the worker. No paint was left for me to touch up, nor was the paint color provided to me. Gene was busy moving his office at the time I called, but he wouldn't even come out to look at the finished product or offer to give me the paint I paid for. If I had painted the railing myself, I would have been a happy customer.
