Project: 2nd story addition and full remodel on 1st floor. Quality was generally good (but less so at the end of the project as timelines got tight) and was completed within initial time estimates. However, four major issues: 1. Actual costs were materially off initial estimates. 2. The project manager assigned to the project was good to work with, but when issues needed to involve Thomas, the owner, things didn’t go as smooth. He was very difficult to work with and never took accountability and responsibility. 3. Project quality suffered near the end of the project. A number of short cuts and mainly used ‘b’ team 4. Post project completion, TJC goes completely silent. Have heard nothing from Thomas despite reaching out multiple times to discuss warranty issues.

Comment from Thomas Jacobson Construction, Inc:
Matias,
-We have no record of you trying to contact our office since Spring 2018, when your punch list was completed.
-You signed a fixed bid contract with us. All of the bells and whistles that you added (like your additional cabinetry and mahogany doors) were documented with change orders that you approved. The work we executed for you was not based on estimates.
-We don’t have a B team. The only work that caused the overall level of finish to suffer was the interior painting that wasn't contracted by our company.
Please feel free to call if you’d like to discuss any of your complaints in an effective manner.

We had a great experience w/ Thomas Jacobson from start to finish. The team is very detail oriented, communicated w/ us daily and did a wonderful job. We will use them again if we have future projects!

My kitchen job was extensive - adding more square feet to the house, adding a bathroom and completely redoing the kitchen and layout, all in a traditional, 100 year + house. It was not cheap or quick but using Thomas Jacobson Construction was worth every penny. They fussed over every detail from the tile to the extensive moldings to the new entryway. Their supervisor on site was fantastic - a craftsman who was a great organizer of the his men and the subs - and he was either on site or texting me. The subs also were top notch and clearly like working for Thomas Jacobson Construction. We had no problems with subs being no shows or late which is amazing considering the construction boom going on. We liked them so much that the moment the job was done, we added on a second small project - re-doing a bathroom with problems (tiling, etc.) that had been done by a GC that was fired. That bathroom is now great. It is a joy working for highly competent people that take their job seriously from the beginning days to the last days of the pain-in-the-neck punch list items.

Phase one (full renovation of lower floor of our house, with all trades engaged: electrical, plumbing, painters, cabinet makers, wallpaper installation, asbestos mitigation, flooring installation) of our project now 95% complete, but contractor won't return messages or emails. Quality of work is very good; quality of communication and overall professionalism rates two stars only.
The Seattle real estate market is overheated and finding a good contractor is difficult. We had high hopes for the relationship with this contractor but will not reengage him for phase two of our whole-house project.

Thomas did a great job on our main floor remodel. It was our first project of this size, but he and his staff were key on helping us thru the process. He and his team really care about how the work is done, done right and looks good! We highly recommend Thomas and have had other friends use him as well.

Thomas Jacobson and his team did a fantastic job renovating our bathroom! Our project manager, Bob Tillman, was capable, accommodating, honest, and responsive to all our requests. They were on time and on budget. The quality of their work is top-notch. We could not be more satisfied and hope to work with them again in the future.

I hired Thomas Jacobson Construction (TJC) for a new construction house build. Well, technically the project was to tear down my old house and build a new, modern house, designed by Coates Design Architects Seattle in its place. Overall, I was exceptionally happy with my relationship with TJC and the quality of their work throughout the entire process of building my new home.
Similar to many people in my position, there were a few big general areas that I worried about going into the project:
Can the house be done on budget?
Can the house be done on time?
Will the house be well built and of the expected quality?
Will my contractor listen to and accept my concerns?
TJC did a great job on nearly all of these. Outside of a few surprise issues, which were outside of TJCs control or knowledge (examples: the soil underneath the old house didn't meet code; the side-sewer needed repair/partial replacement) the project stayed on budget. I should also add that Thomas and Bob (the super) did a great job of making suggestions that saved money while giving me the same look and feel, without sacrificing quality, which allowed me to make small improvements in other areas.
Regarding the schedule, outside of the aforementioned soil issues throwing the schedule for a loop very early on, TJC did a good job of staying on schedule and getting me in the house in the expected time frame. There were a few small things that weren't completed until after I moved back in, but TJC did a good job of communicating when those items would be completed and kept to the communicated dates.
As for the quality of the work complete by TJC, I've been very happy. TJC did a great job of thinking through problems ahead of time and working with myself and other parties (architect, engineers, subs, etc...) to ensure that we arrived at a good solution that wasn't going to sacrifice the quality of the finished project. There were instances where certain things didn't meet the quality bar and TJC themselves said, "you know, that's just not good enough" and took on the responsibility of letting me know that something wasn't done well enough followed by them taking the time and absorbing the cost of getting it right. Overall, the house is really well built and I loved that TJC was just as committed to the quality of the home as I was.
Now the all important question of, "will my contractor actually listen to me?"... I don't know if I gave TJC a choice as I only lived two blocks away while construction was happening so I was there to check out what was happening on a daily basis, but I will say that my working relationship with Thomas, Bob, and the rest of the crew was excellent. TJC did a great job of listening to and addressing any concerns that I had (they still do actually) and they always kept me in the loop regarding what was currently happening in the project and what to expect next as well as what was needed of me (building a house requires a lot of decisions).
In the end, I now have a beautiful new home and I really can't imagine having had a better experience working with anybody else.
To note, I listed February 2016 as the project date as that is when the house passed final inspection.

We started with a small job and ended with a two stage kitchen gut and remodel. Thomas and his project manager Bob have been flexible, helpful with design ideas, and collaborative in this process. Their subs ( demo, plumbing, custom wood floor , electrical upgrades) and quality of work far exceeds our experiences with most jobs like this as we are not new to remodeling. Clean, on time, beautiful work, in constantcommunication about the status of how the job is unfolding and what to expect. And extremly professional and personsble people!

TJC was a pleasure to work with. They planned the work, identified issues before they became a problem, and followed-up with their subs and suppliers to take care of outstanding items.

We chose Thomas Jacobson Construction for our kitchen remodel and were very happy with their work. From the start they presented themselves in a very courteous and professional manner and worked well within our projected budget and timeline. They did a fantastic job in any problem solving that needed to be done that inevitably arises during construction projects and they communicated well with all of those involved in the project. In addition to the kitchen, we did a variety of other general work in the house (electrical and painting) that TJC managed for us as well. The kitchen turned out beautifully and we look forward to working with them again soon for some other projects we plan to do.

We put our house up for sale in summer of 2012. Prior to putting it on the market we had a full inspection which showed some damage to the siding and decks. In addition the report recommended that the roof be replaced. Wanting to enhance the sales process we decided to fix all listed issues. I was put in contact with Thomas Jacobson Construction by a friend who is also in the construction/remodeling business but was not available in the time period we required.
My experience with Thomas Jacobson Construction was excellent. On our initial phone call we discuss the requirements of the job and timeline expectations. They visited the site, gave a detailed assessment with options and a fair estimate of costs. Note that since this was a remodeling/repair job they had to give a best guess estimate contingent on what they might find after starting. I had two other estimates all close in price. After we agreed on the work plan Thomas Jacobson started the job on the day agreed to, provided quality work and completed all the work on time and within budget. On additional bonus is that I was traveling some of the time during the job. They kept in touch with me, provide information and pictures to help the remote discussion. During the last few weeks of the job I visited regularly and was always impressed with the professional and quality way the did the job. I would highly recommend them.
