Virginia Building and Remodeling

I was horrified and lost faith in humanity after a recent experience that my family and I had with this company. I contacted VA Building & Remodeling recently regarding a renovation and addition to my parents house to make it accessible for my little sister, who became paralyzed several months ago. Shane and Karen came over to take a look at the house in April, and we had a good conversation although there was a pronounced lack of focus. We discussed building an approximately 100 sq ft addition to the house that could be used specially for my sister and her son since she is currently sleeping in the dining room, and remodeling the bathroom next to it to accommodate a wheelchair. There was some damage to the roof as well that had to be repaired. For these issues, they quoted an absurd price of $150,000. Since we desperately need the work done, we discussed the project further. Shane balked when we discussed a payment arrangement since the estimate came in 50% over the budget we had discussed, and he had been aware of. When we came to an impasse for funding the addition, we briefly discussed proceeding with just the roof, bathroom and hallway remodel. When I mentioned our original budget, Shane told me, verbatim, that the $100,000 project "wasn't worth it" for him because he was "having a banner year". The project, as a reminder, was to make my parents house-- both on social security-- more accessible for my paraplegic little sister and her four year old son. On principles of ethics and basic humanity, I would avoid this company at all costs. I understand they're not running a charity, but to be so dismissive, inflexible and inhumane as Shane treated this project and my family is inexcusable. If you're as outraged as I was about this situation, show them the only place it seems to matter-- their company checking account, and take your business elsewhere.

We are so happy with our new deck, updated front porch, and new back walkway! The project went smoothly - clear and immediate communications throughout, pleasant owner and personnel interactions, they worked with us to give us the best product for our budget, and through out the project, kept the area pretty tidy so our yard never felt like a disaster area. The workmanship of all 3 projects is impeccable and high quality. Highly recommend VB&R

Shane and Karen did a great job managing a project that included 800 sq ft of concrete, a steel beam, recreating Victorian era fancy soffit, laying sandstone, horizontal mid century style redwood interior wall, new openings in brick walls, closing up openings in brick walls, copper roofing...and more. A wide variety of tasks and styles. They were easy to work with, flexible with minor scope changes, reasonable with major scope changes, persistent with completing the punch list. Excellent communication on status, what and who to expect when.

Va Bldg & Remodeling turned my patio into a screened in porch with vinyl walls and replaced my roof this fall. They were extremely easy to work with! They were there when they said and completed the work in a timely manner. I'm thrilled with the end result and know it will be a room that will get a lot of use. What was especially nice is that they really tailored things to what I wanted and did little extra things like add support to a wall so I could hang a hammock - they even went out and got the hooks to hang it and installed them for me! I would definitely recommend them!

They completely remodeled our circa 1957 tiny master bathroom. It's wonderful! Karen and Shane are so easy to work with and are not happy until you are happy. No detail is too small for their attention. Their communication is great and they work hard to ease the distrubtion to your home. Always clean up and their sub contractors are wonderful too. They exceeded our expectations and we are already working with them on our next renovation project. Completed on time, real pros!

Virginia Buidling and Remodeling built a sun room, raised porch and patio for us. This company is outstanding, doing an excellent job in all aspects of the construction.

We are very pleased with there Work. Area was always kept clean. They were friendly. Work was done in a timely manner. Loved the finished job. We would definitely use them again.

Shane and Karen were wonderful to work with. I have had negative experiences with contractors before in the past so their attentive communication, being on time, and honest work ethic was HUGE for me. I hired Shane and Karen for a wall removal project and it ended up costing less than what they had originally quoted me for. I will be using them again for future house projects.

Karen and Shane were wonderful to work with! Shane is a great problem solver, offering suggestions for minor structural and cosmetic changes that gave the end result a beautiful polished look. Karen ran the project with precision and a minimum of disruption to us; any issues that came up were resolved quickly and cheerfully. The contractors always showed up when expected, and were skilled and friendly. The job site was kept clean, and we were even able to use the kitchen during the entire remodel – amazing! We’re delighted with the results, and I’m sure we’ll enjoy our kitchen for many years to come. Thanks, VBR!

Shane and Karen are the GREATEST. They are always available and give excellent suggestions for improvements saving us lots of worry and money. In the past, Virginia Building has installed new roofing, siding, whole house insulation, porch attachment and many other areas that were of concern that were not noticed by us. Shane has a professional eye that sees areas that are helpful (even minor ones) and makes great suggestions for correction and improvements. He takes into consideration your financial situation when giving estimates for his work. He ALWAYS checks back to make sure his workmen completes the jobs correctly. He is very personal and always cares that work be done professionally.

Virginia Building and Remodeling did an excellent job during our rather large kitchen remodel this summer. They diligently responded to our needs throughout the process and were extremely professional. They were timely and very reasonably priced we found, compared to other contractors in our area. Their service of excellence definitely showed in the work they did. They provided an excellent team of professionals that made us feel comfortable in the job being done and offered a personal touch when we asked them about our "special" needs, from cedar wrapping our columns to meeting our granite installation people on site to make sure everyone was on the same page. In addition, their craftsmanship was excellent. We couldn't have wished for a better finished look, from our original vision.
