1 Review for Texas Colors Stained Glass
I do not recommend Texas Colors Stained Glass. I feel like we got conned.
They do not own their mistakes and we are out our $1767.50 deposit with nothing to show for it, not even the materials purchased with our deposit. I doubt it is financially sensible to take legal action so maybe someone can learn from our experience in this review.
Our project was the replacement of two side lights in our front entrance. The side lights were to blend with our new front door.
We contacted Texas Colors Stained Glass, David Yancey came out to see the front door. He then submitted three different designs.
We picked one. We did not quibble on price, or quibble on signing a contract or quibble on a delivery date nor did we try to modify Yancey's design at any point.
There was a formal contract, required signatures for the design and 50% of the cost up front.
Within _seconds_ of us signing off on the design, Yancey said the design was going to have to change. Some of the bevels would have to be merged, according to Yancey his "bevel guy" said they were too small to be manufacturable. Seconds after sign off? This should have been the biggest red flag ever.
As an aside, he also said some of the other bevels would have to be "a bit bigger". The implications of this last were not clear to us until later. This should have been a warning to us but I knew we were really in trouble when my wife got a call from Yancey asking for the rest of the money. This is before installation, even before we had seen the photos of the actual glass. Strange.
On the phone, the story from Yancey was that he "usually asks for the full amount up front". This was a straight out lie and completely contradicted the signed contract. I said no.
Some weeks later Yancey sent photos of the placed bevels and oval, and the design was crap. The bevels that were going to be a "bit bigger" were so large that the oval could not contain them any longer. I told him via email "Fix the design or return our money." His response was "The bottom line... is that the bevels are what they are".
Yancey: paraphrase 'When I sent the design to my bevel guy he stated that the whole cluster would need to be enlarged to make it possible to create...'. The impact to the design was never communicated to us, nor was the original design picture modified and shown to us prior to spending our deposit.
More nonsense: "I will need to consult with my lawyer with regards to my expenses and time"
In a last-ditch attempt to get something for our money we asked if my wife could drive out and see the design in person. If she was ok with it we would move ahead. He agreed but then in the same email went on to say how he had paraphrase 'lost enthusiasm for putting his art in our home, that he was stressed and we would have to wait a day or two so he could recover.' Ok(?). And then, unbelievably, falsely accused us of making a threat or threats! At that point, I knew this guy was unhinged and our money was lost.
My last email: "Nobody threatened you. You are the only one that mentioned lawyers or any kind of action like that. ... We are done here."
So basically, the original design was not manufacturable due to Yancey's design flaws. We tried to use a local artisan, we will try another, but this time having learned a $1767 lesson.
This is why I can not recommend this company.
