About Us

Berlin Flooring is a hardwood flooring company in Boulder, Colorado. We have provided wood floor installation and refinishing since 1953. Our craftsmen pride themselves on the quality of their workmanship and high level of customer service. We are honest and objective when advising our customers on what products and services are recommended for their wood floors to ensure they receive the highest quality and value. We guide you through the process of properly designing, installing, sanding and finishing a beautiful hardwood floor. Einar Berlin founded Berlin Flooring in 1953, and his son, Steve Berlin, took over the company in 1991 and still runs the company today. All employees at Berlin Flooring have been with the company for at least 12 years. Our consistency sets us apart from other companies in the area. We do not hire a bunch of new, inexperienced employees when we get busy and we are not a large company running several crews. We are a small company by choice which enables us to maintain our high standards. Our estimator, Scott Tarpinian, is a Certified Sales Advisor through the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) Certified Professionals program. NWFA certified status validates his knowledge of wood flooring properties, recommending the right product for the job, and troubleshooting installation, sanding, and finishing issues. He attended the NWFA Installation, Sand and Finish school in 2004, and continues his education by attending the yearly NWFA education conference and trade expo to stay up to date on the latest products and techniques in the hardwood flooring industry.

Scott and his team at Berlin Flooring did an outstanding job with refinishing our hardwood floors during our remodel. Scott worked well with the other contractors to prepare and refinish the floors. The onsite flooring specialists worked diligently, competently and the result is hardwood flooring that looks brand new and is easy to care for. Since we very much relied on reviews in choosing Berlin Flooring, I want to make sure you know our experience with this company so you can weigh it in. In general, I found these guys (from the owner all the way down) to be very unprofessional. Here are some, but not all, of our issues: -- did NOT protect my walls and got stain all over the walls (see below for more info about this issue) -- did not prep floor adequately so had a great deal of trouble with how the floors accepted the stain -- started to put the WRONG STAIN on our floors and my partner caught it at the last minute (thankfully!!!) -- after several issues, we asked to have a supervisor come to my home to ensure quality control. Although the owner agreed, no one was ever sent. -- when we asked to have the stain on the walls fixed, the company said we asked them not to protect the walls (what??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) -- because they didn't prep the floors properly (even though we told them there was a problem after doing just one room), they created extra work for themselves and then tried to charge us for it -- refused to put the 2nd coat on my floors even though it is EXACTLY what is on my bid -- owner did not return multiple phone calls even though he knew there were issues onsite These people are very low quality and have caused us a lot of stress during the entire process. I would recommend you use a different company.

We've been working with Scott and his team on refinishing our oak floors (17 years old on main floor and new unfinished upstairs). The floors turned out just perfect! We were out of town on a vacation when the job was done and came back to a wonderful result. Very pleased! The only thing is it was not dustless. I mean they did good job cleaning the floors but fine sawdust was left on the textured walls, closet shelves, and the windows. I think you just have to clarify in advance if you want the whole process to be dustless. My friends had their floors refinished with Berlin Flooring at about the same time and they did not have that dust problem at all. In our project we used Dark Walnut stain and Glitsa finish on solid red oak. Again, very happy with the result - thank you Berlin Flooring!

Berlin did a beautiful job refinishing the wood floors in my condo, it transformed the living room. I had not yet made the move to Boulder, but there was good communication and it was a pleasure to come home to revived floors.

Berlin Flooring did an excellent job at refinishing our family room floor. They provided a very reasonable quote and did an excellent job at refinishing the floor. I was very impressed with the prep work that they did prior to sanding to contain 100% of the dust. There was absolutely no dust anywhere in the house during and after the job! I would definitely use Berlin Flooring again for any future floor refinishing jobs!

I used Berlin Flooring after seeing what a great job they did for my brother's flooring. The staff is excellent to work with and the technicians are very competent. Great service! We got an appointment within a week of our estimate. The floors look better than new. The finish is perfect! The technicians arrived on time, started the project and kept to the committed time allotted. They took great care in minimizing the dust impact from sanding by using plastic sheeting in exposed areas . They cleaned up after the finished job to where it didn't even look as if they had been there. The value is by far the best in the area.

They refinished our floors and did an amazing job. I saw the care they took in sealing off the house. I've also seen bad refinishing jobs, so I know what to look out for. Even coating, no pooling, and excellent job on the edges and trim.
