“We've had two jobs done by Tom and Bev and been more than pleased with both. The initial job was a remodel of an existing home office/guest room and adjoining bath. Three years later we engaged them again to replace our dilapidated garage with a two story free standing garage/shop and upstairs studio/guest quarters. The latter project has elicited praise from all the neighbors, and many passersby have stopped to inquire who did the work. In both of these instances we were impressed with the professionalism and attention to detail of both Beverly the architect and Tom the builder. Bev really listened to our concerns and worked with us to try out different approaches until we found the design that fit our needs and desires for the space, giving helpful advice and pointing out things that we would not have noticed until too late. She shepherded the project through the permitting and inspection process, making sure that no issues with setback or height restrictions arose. Tom was involved in every phase of the construction, dealing with suppliers and subcontractors as well as keeping us informed with daily email updates on progress made, problems encountered, and what the next step would be. He worked with us to achieve our design goals while staying within budget. Living in a construction zone can be stressful, but Tom's crew were great. The guys take very real pride in what the create. They went about their business with a minimum of mess and were always careful to keep the disruption contained. At the conclusion of the garage job we had an open house and invited the carpentry crew and their families. “Kustom floors made our hardwood floors absolutely beautiful. They explained the different finishes, and made 5 samples (on the floor itself) so that we could decide what we wanted. We decided on the (more expensive) European finish (by Monocoat 2C in Oak), which can be worked in small sections if there is local damage or wear and tear, which is nice because it means the whole place doesn't have to be redone. This suits us because we have cats and they may at some point do something unpleasant! Our choice of color oil had to be ordered, which took a few days. The work itself was super fast, and they did a good job of cleaning up the inevitable dust layer. They were also very accommodating even though I rescheduled a few times due to delays in another ongoing project. I had not completely understood how long the floors needed afterwards to fully recover (perhaps Rudy could have explained a bit more clearly, or maybe I should have asked more specific questions), so when we moved in a few days later (with a moving company), I was a little nervous. But, we covered the corridors etc with brown paper and in the end there was no damage to the floors. The fridge had been pulled out a little too far before the work was done, so when we finally pushed it back in all the way, an unfinished patch in the floor became exposed. Rudy graciously agreed to come and refinish that section free of charge, and at the same time showed me how to take care of the floors and how to do spot repairs. My only tiny niggle is that it took a few days to get a quote at one point, but to be fair, it was the second or third quote after changing our minds about what work we wanted done. Overall, the end product was definitely worth it. In conclusion: we LOVE our floors!”
