Ashton Woods sells very poorly constructed homes. I currently live in one. We paid a significant premium to have the house built to our custom specifications, and there was a problem at every turn. And for every problem that Ashton Woods has caused by being too fast or too cheap or too lazy, I have had to fight just to get a basic standard. The quality level of my home disgusts me, and I would be embarrassed to work for such a company.

We bought from Ashton Woods in 2015.The sales process was tedious as the rep wasn't professional enough to handle these type of sales.
They made a big mistake with the colors that, lately, refused to fix, asking us 5k to solve the problem!
The AC is a nightmare, it took 2 years to fugure it out the temps, intakes, outtakes and thermostats.
They weren't able to fix it, so, now that the warranty is expired it is our problem as they washed their hands.
The neighborhood are mostly unhappy and some really furious for the way they constructed and handled maintenance during warranty, especially HVAC.
We called 100 times the design center asking for details of our wood floor, that we wanted to extend to other rooms, and we were ignored as no one returned any calls.
At the end we gave up on trying and decide to move on, as we are exhausted from dealing with such poor company standards.
I suggest to prospective buyers to look elsewhere as this one is a great disappointment, and we are looking to buy somewhere else, after 2 years, because it will only get worse dealing with them in a neighborhood with no company presence or HOA rules enforced!

We have worked with Ashton Woods for many years. They are an A+ company who builds a great quality home. As a trade partner they are wonderful to work with. Thanks Ashton Woods! We look forward to many more years to come with you.

Just wanting to put this out to whomever may be thinking about building a ground up home from Ashton Wood Homes in the Estates at Mesa Oaks in Schertz TX. This is what we learned: What you see may not be what you get. What you’re told may be conveniently forgotten. Take the disclaimer for gospel, even the ones they produce after they take your earnest fee.
We started our experience in February 2017. In our case from day one it was an adventure! From the questionable utilization of bath tubs, the published elevation pictures not matching the final buildout, the questionable stone work, the patch work exterior fencing, to just mention a few.
We finally decided to cut our losses in early September. We thought since the closing estimate was mid-October it would give them enough time to sell their product to someone else. They were more than willing to immediately remind me of no refunds. Interesting business model keep the earnest fee and option percentage, then sell the house as a spec home for a higher price. Guessing keeping the thousands of dollars in prepays is more important than satisfying a customer.
I just wanted other home buyers to know about my experience and hope it helps you make an educated $400K+ decision.

We bought a home from Ashton Woods and the whole building process has been a total nightmare. They do not stick to their closing date and they make very little effort to try to get you in near the date. This makes things very tricky when determining leases and move in plans. Many errors along the way. They blame most of the issues on sub-contactors but they never hire new ones. They keep selling more homes even though they have not fixed the homes that are already built. Poor Communication. Subpar workmanship. When you spend a half million dollars on a home, you expect for the builder to call you back.

I am a new homeowner on Daniel Island in Charleston SC. Ashton Woods was our builder. The construction manager was great to work with but the new homeowner experience has been terrible as we work with the sub-contractors to complete the punch list and warranty items. Several examples: Pro-Build is the window provider. We have been in the home for eight weeks but still have a broken window that was damaged before the closing and five missing screens. They have dropped the ball numerous times. The wrong items were brought the first three deliveries that were made. Today's appointment to install yesterday's delivery was a no show, no call. Still don't know for sure that we now have the correct items.
ELI was the landscaper. The owner stopped by the home on May 19 to look at a bad drainage issue and several dead plants. I was told they would handle everything the week of May 19. Late afternoon on 5/23, I called and was told the work would be done "first thing" on Tuesday, 5/27. There was no show so I called again on 5/29 and was told the work would be done the next morning (Friday). Again, no show and no call. I called (fourth time!) on Monday, June 6 and learned that the replacement plants had never been ordered! No one could give an explanation why or tell me why appointments kept being made when they obviously weren't able to do the work. The work was finally completed yesterday, June 13. By the way, the owner of ELI was on-site for an hour but never acknowledged the difficulties nor apologized.
Timberlake is the cabinet provider. We still have two cabinet doors hanging that were mid-ordered prior to the home closing. Several cabinet drawers are operating properly and nail holes in cabinet trim are still waiting to be filled. All this even though they have already been to our home on three occasions to do warranty work. They have shown up once without an appointment and twice have come to do just 1-2 items on the list but not to handle everything on the list.
We are recently retired and have been as flexible as possible with our time to try and get this work done. I can't imagine how long it would take if we were still working.
I could give other examples but won't. In good conscience, I cannot recommend Ashton Woods and recommend you use a builder with a stronger network of sub-contractors.

We had this Builder for our house. Terrible staff. Poor customer service. The workmanship is below par and once your house is close they pretty much would careless about it. Even though we have the 1 year warranty, they will not do anything unless it's a major defects. The quality of the building materials is subpar and sale lady will not tell you much except to get your business. The house is located next to a plant that we only got to know after living in for a few months. Not to blame then but they were honest when we ask what area is next to the housing community. i strongly do not recommend this builder.

I purchased a lot for building single family house and made all my structural and design center options. The construction process was so painful that almost every was missed by the Ashton Woods project manager, even after finding the defect and notifying, there was a lot of fuss in accepting the errors and fixing them. some of the issues were never resolved, and most took 3 to 5 versions of installs. Overall experience of building a house with Ashton Woods is terrible terrible and very stressful and is a nightmare. Buyer Beware. The Sales agent promises some things, design studio consultants miss a lot of documentation for construction guys and they miss installing the options selected by customer. The heating unit required 6 visits over 6-8 weeks in winter to work properly. Very inexperienced Project Managers, area construction managers, design studio managers. They dont acccept any issue reported by customer without making a fuss.
Overall, stay away.

I bought a spec house. The salesman was great and he was very professional and answered questions promptly and showed that he really cared. He also made the financing go smoother with his involvement.

Moving into our newly built home been a very exciting experience. We owe most of that positive excitement to our Builder, Ashton Woods. So many people we know have a negative experience with their builders. We can honestly say that every contractor and financial personnel that has taken part in building our home has been extremely professional, and has serviced our every need. The quality of work that was provided has been top notch and after 2 months in our home they are still providing us with friendly customer service. We love our house especially the design layout. Most importantly we appreciate the solid integrity of the workmanship that Ashton Woods used to build our home.
Sincerely,
Leslie and Terrence Taylor
