It is more than than 2 years in 3rd week of June and they did not complete the warranty . We sent several messages and texts but did not get any reply. When we met them more than 4 times personally , always got the reply that they are working on it . Work quality is not up to the standard mentioned. They know that and we hope that no one goes through this kind of stress. We have proof to show that everything was entered in their co construct and acknowledged by their previous warranty manager but now 95 % of the staff is gone and our access to software was deleted saying that work is completed but that is not true.Subcontractors never acknowledge that they have done wrong work.I do not want to go in more detail . Thank you for your time, and I hope we can come to realistic solutions to these persisting problems. Best, AP

We are sorry that you feel this way. As far as warranty the industry standard that the average homeowner has 5-10 warranty calls within our 1 year warranty. At Charis Homes, we keep accurate records of our warranty check-ups and according to our system, we have sent employees and sub-contractors to your house to resolve the 83 items you enter into our co-construct. There are only 3 remaining issues. The flooring “issue” was not an issue upon move in according to the receipt copy you signed at your Welcome Home tour However, it has been inspected by us, our flooring installer, the manufacturer of the hard wood and a 3rd party inspector with the outcome being the damage to the flooring was caused by something spilled on or a cleaning product applied to the flooring well after the homeowner moved in. We will warranty defects, but not damage caused after move in. The stucco issue we are still working on resolving. Unfortunately, our weather this year has not allowed us enough dry days to fix this yet. We explained that your HVAC duct work will not be completely silent as it is a mechanical system that expands and contracts as heated and cooled air flows throughout the system. Overall, the house that we provided you with meets and exceeds ALL building codes and standards required by the state of Ohio. At Charis Homes, we even adhere to the higher building codes because we are an Energy Star Partner even though the state of Ohio only requires builders to adhere to the 2009 I.E.E.C. building code. As far as not having access to Co-construct, all homes are moved to archive status outside of one year. It doesn't mean we are not willing to resolve issues outside of that, which is why we are working on resolving the stucco problem. We provide products and systems that have long warranties (25 years plus) through the manufacturer. You received a homeowner manual upon move-in the lists the proper parties to contact should you have any other warranty issues. Not to say that we are not willing to help with actual issues, as we have had homeowners in their homes for over 5 years that we have willingly assisted with warranty items. We feel we provided you’re a beautiful energy efficient, custom home with only one remaining item to be corrected that we are working on. We do appreciate you choosing Charis as your builder of choice and do hope we can come to a realistic resolution to solve this matter. We will continue to be in contact regarding the repair of the stucco.

Charis built our 3 bedroom (2 extra in the finished basement) ranch. We have been in it for about 3 years. We have been very happy with the construction and finish work. We probably were not the easiest customers to work with. We took a set of plans and made major changes, but it all worked out well. There are always little bumps along the way with a project this size and our specific wants and desires, but Charis handled all of them well. Not to many people want a full 4 car garage added onto a ranch. The superior insulation has kept our heating and AC bills much lower than our previous home. The ICF Basement walls keep the 1400 sqft finished part of the basement very comfortable. If I were to build again Charis would be the builder I would contact. The few warranty type items we had were taken care of promptly and to our satisfaction.

Jim and I had been following Charis Homes for about 5 years. We went to every Open House and loved each one more and more. The Quality of their homes and work were so obvious and each home so beautiful. They pride themselves on their Energy Efficient Green Homes. We finally decided to downsize from a 2 story house to a ranch and found the lot we wanted to build on. We didn’t hesitate or shop around but went straight to Todd Scott of Charis Homes to start our building plans. They made the building process very easy and covered “every” detail of our new home. They never hesitated in making any changes we wanted to make. We loved their Co-Construct web site where everything was posted to see. All our choices, costs, pictures and time line were there to view every day. Very professional in all they do. The contractors they work with are all so efficient, neat and friendly. We built an Energy Efficient Green Home. Our current utility bills are so low we can’t believe it. Our home feels solid and comfortable. We love it. Todd Scott and his team were so easy and fun to work with. During our build I was diagnosed with cancer and became ill. They just stepped right in and went out of their way to help us out in everything, and did it with genuine care. We definitely call them our friends. We would recommend Charis Homes to anyone thinking of building a “quality” home. You will be working with a team of very knowledgeable, professional and friendly builders. My husband and I searched for years for the right contractor to build our dream home. When we found Charis Homes, we knew immediately that we had found the one. Visit a Charis model home and you will see their quality of workmanship and materials found in no other contractors' homes. The knowledgeable Charis staff is people-oriented and easy to work with, and the building process is remarkably smooth and individualized. We went into our project with preconceived ideas, and Charis more than met them, and also showed us many alternatives from which to choose.. They went the extra mile to please us during the building process, then followed up for a year after we moved in to insure that we were pleased with every aspect of our new home. Charis is a custom builder, so our home is beautifully appointed with our personal taste inside and out. Also, unlike many of the other contractors, Charis is an ICF, insulated concrete forms, builder. We opted to build all three floors of our home with ICF construction, so our new home is not only gorgeous; it is energy efficient. We are heating and cooling over 4100 square feet of living space, along with 2 gas ovens, a 6 burner gas range, 2 gas fireplaces, a gas furnace and gas water heater. Our monthly electric bill varies between $155.00 - $165.00 per month, and our budgeted gas bill is $41.00 per month this year. Last year it was $29.00 per month.

5 months past the 5-6 months we were told house would be built in. poor attention to details, complaint after complaint and then they told us they did not know we were unhappy. built with them because of reviews and reputation. very disappointed. think only their positive reviews get shown. when signed contract, said we could provide our own fixtures, then when came time, said had to use their light, their plumbing, their pretty much everything, which half of did not work and at three times the price of local hardware stores. big chip in tub from installers or drywaller dropping tools. unseen due to all dust until move-in. downspout drains are not even 6inches underground of finished level, despite being walkout basement with plenty of fall room for them. First rain and had down pour in front door and corner from gutter overflow. very disappointed to just mention a few items. was told by builder they use flat paint to hide the imperfections of drywall(instead of fixing them, they hide). but they have very friendly and believable sales staff about getting a quality home. shame on me

First, we would like you to remind you that the Charis Homes warranty process is available for your use to notify us of problems with appliances and cosmetic issues covered under your home warranty. Please also note that if we are unaware of faults or issues, we are unable to address them in a timely and efficient manner.

Second, in regard to your complaint about the use of flat paint on your interior walls, per the Sherwin Williams website flat paint, “helps hide blemishes… cleans easily with a damp sponge… is ideal for adult bedroom, dining rooms, formal living rooms, and ceilings…” https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/ask-sherwin-williams/painting/interior-painting-how-tos/interior-planning/sw-article-dir-selectingafinis.html Notification of the type of paint to be used in your home was made available to you throughout the planning and building process. It is also clearly indicated in the Charis Homes general specifications (Section 21/pg.13).

Lastly, with regard to the delay in you being able to take possession of your home, there were several factors that led to the extended construction timeline. The majority of the time delay was caused by issues that were outside of Charis Homes’ sphere of influence. However, our project manager and office staff remained diligent in contacting all concerned parties, and in documenting what caused all delays. This is something that was viewable to you on the Charis Homes online customer portal.

In conclusion, while we regret that you seem unsatisfied by our attention to detail, we hope that we are able to address your warranty issues in the appropriate time period, and that you enjoy your home for many years to come.

I was in the market to build a new home by pure luck for Charis Homes and Todd Scott. Was going to sign contract the following wee with another builder until I contacted Todd. After a short talk we scheduled a time to view three houses Charis was in the process of building. Minutes after walking in the door of the first home I knew I had to give reasonable consideration to Charis Homes as the builder of our new home. I did many searches on the internet and also looked at the standard features and products used in a Charis Home. By far Charis offered us the best bank for our dollar. When looking to build energy efficiency was not high on our list and the builder we were ready to sign with did not promote energy efficiency. After 5 months in our new home I am sure glad we found out about if from Charis Homes. My highest gas bill has been $46 (Not on Budget) during the coldest months. Very happy with Charis homes and all the employees that work for them. The subcontractors were great to work with and the house was completed within 6 months. Everything we could have ever asked for and more. We love our HOME!!!!! Mike & Karen

Todd , Josh, Glenna and the whole crew at Charis homes are top notch. We have been working with them for three months now , finding lots, deciding designs and signing contracts. During this time we have met several families who currently own a Charis home. All of them love their homes. We have looked at other builders with my kids who wanted to build, but never were impressed enough to build a new home. I went with my son to meet Todd at their model home and was so impressed that I later brought my wife through the model. She loved it too , so we put our current home of 22 years on the market and will be building a Charis home as is our Son and Daughter in law. You can find cheaper builders, but I'm convinced you won't find a better quality home!

Charis Homes built our custom home. Before we built, friends had told us about their experiences with their home builders (NOT CHARIS) and much of it was negative. So, of course we anticipated problems before we even started to build. But we had the best experience building our home!! The team at Charis was professional, honest (which is so important), and they genuinely cared about the quality of their work. Nothing but the best for their customers. They were attentive to our needs and worked very closely with us on a day to day basis. If you are looking for a team with integrity, this is it!!
