“It seemed a complicated undertaking - building from first ideas to final result a house that would capture the precarious balance between modern-open/plan with comfortable cottage spaces. Our GC recommended an architect whose energy, vision and positivism were a good match, Heide Bolyard (Simplified Living Architecture - SLA). We engaged Heide with her grasp of detail, dynamism and flexibility, SLA listened to our desires, lifestyle needs and constraints - mostly footprint and budget- and quickly drafted our proposed home. We iterated a few times with SLA always quickly incorporating changes or suggesting alternatives. SLA engaged the appropriate specialists (structural engineers, etc.) and kept the builder updated so that the design process was seamless. SLA was up front about what they didn't do: for instance things like electric for which they would draft a plan so we could get county approvals. SLA recommended that we work with our GC and lighting people for our final layout. SLA was on time and on budget. And, they designed a house that the GC would build for our budget. When an issue popped up during building process - digging for and completing the foundation- SLA was right with us.....stepped in and engaged the appropriate engineers to resolve the issue. We recommend SLA whole-heartedly.”
