Cranbrook Custom Homes

We have been in our new home for a little over 2 months (completed in January 2017) and we love it. This is the third house we have had built and although this is the largest of the 3, the experience has been the smoothest. We interviewed several other custom builders and walked through dozens of houses in different stages of construction and Cranbrook was the only one that consistently showed quality in both the structure itself and the crews doing the work. Steve McKay is gifted and truly an expert at what he does. He combined our ideas and needs into a design that complimented our property and feels welcoming from every angle, inside and out. Each trade throughout the process was top notch and their pride in workmanship showed. I am sure the pizza we brought each week did not hurt but I don’t think we could have found better crews with any other builder. Our superintendent, Joe, was a pleasure to work with. I felt completely confident throughout the entire build process in his ability to keep things on schedule and completed to our high standards. We worked with him almost daily and his professionalism, work ethic, and attention to our needs has been key to the end result. With such a large project, on property and not in a subdivision, we expected problems to arise. No major issues happened and what did come up was dealt with quickly and was resolved. I can honestly say that if we ever build again, we would build with Cranbrook!

Had some bumps in the road regarding accuracy in some calculations, assumptions and communication. Credit to the CCH Principles, they got engaged with us directly to help reconcile all issues and most importantly restore client trust. For this reason, I have upgraded my one star rating to three. The remaining two stars will be assessed once construction is complete and we have a few months in our new home. We have been in our new home for about 18 months now. I'm happy to say that our home has settled well and is solid in all aspects. For this and prior reasons, I'm please to upgrade my rating to full 5 stars and would highly recommend the Cranbrook Custom Homes team to build your new house.

If you are considering building a custom or semi-custom home, I would highly recommend you start with Cranbrook Custom Homes. My wife and I have now been in our Cranbrook home going on 1 year now, and we can honestly say the entire experience has been positive. What we feel makes the Cranbrook building experience 2nd to none, is their entire team (from the Top to Bottom). We consulted with 4 other builders (3 custom), and decided to give Cranbrook the nod to construct our home based on their home design and building process. The experience started the time we walked in the model (office), and we were introduced to Beverly (Bev) Moceri. She did an excellent job on selling their product (custom homes) to us, as she took her time to carefully explain Cranbrook’s building process. Bev explained how we would select a model from their portfolio and work directly with Stephen McKay (Cranbrook VP & Architect) to fine tune (make any adjustments to the floor plan), and finalize our design. In addition to being able to work directly with Steve, Bev also explained how all of their customers would be working with each one of their vendors (i.e. flooring, stone & brick, low voltage, appliances, etc...). We were given a vendor selection book that helped guide us through the process of meeting with each vendor. This was a very nice touch as we were able to customize / personalize every part of our home based on the options each vendor had with respect to their product choices. Steve was very helpful throughout the process, first tweaking our design several times, and then providing much needed feedback from time to time. Our construction manager was Corrado, and he was never too busy for listening and addressing the concerns we had with our build. He was very responsive and took a lot of the stress out of the building process. His supervisor, Dave Hamilton was just as responsive as he spoke to us several times to make sure his team’s performance was living up to our expectations. My wife and I have kept in contact with the Cranbrook team since we closed this past January, and they have been more than helpful in providing additional advice and guidance (i.e. epoxy flooring, deck building, generator install, etc…). It is now going on 12 months since we took ownership and we can safely say that we have no regrets, and are truly glad we chose to build with Cranbrook Custom Homes!

We are near the end of the building process for our new home with Cranbrook Custom Homes. If you want a truly custom home, Cranbrook is the builder for you! We have never built a home before, and Cranbrook has walked us through every step of the process. We have been able to work closely and personally with architect Stephen McKay, who has been willing and eager to help us make adjustments when desired. The sales team and construction team have been easy to communicate with and are very detail oriented, ensuring we get what we want in every aspect of our new home. From the studs to the finishes, quality materials are used and it shows. This has been a learning process for us and we feel we are getting a very well-constructed home full of our personal character. We recommend Cranbrook Custom Homes as a builder who treats clients with respect, listens to their ideas, and makes them an integral part of the process, every step of the way.

We purchased a home from Cranbrook Homes about six months ago and our home is now under construction. We are very impressed with Cranbrook's professionalism and organization. We chose Cranbrook Homes after an extensive search because their home designs were unique and beautiful. We shopped around and found that they had the best design and value. We especially liked the different finishes that they offer like reclaimed beams and the zinc patina finishes. Also, it was great not having to hire an architect independently from the builder. This saved us a lot of time and money.

I just gave an extra star. Builder has been doing a great job fixing some of the issues. If you go with this builder check and double check the square footage and dimensions. We requested the kitchen, mudroom and master be expanded. Despite multiple meetings with the architect discussing this and it being in our contract, it didn't happen. This was a huge disappointment since we spent so much time discussing with the builder how important expanding the kitchen was to us. Despite the email backup and wording in the contract, he denied ever agreeing to it after the fact. He said he put the extra square footage somewhere else. Well, I'm still looking for it. I wish I would have had an independent architect verify the dimensions on the plans. Shame on us for not catching the error on the plans. After a year in the house. I am still unhappy that the kitchen wasn't expanded and that the standard size was built. But, I am encouraged that they have been diligent on addressing items in our home warranty.

Would not recommend this builder for a luxury custom home. We were hoping for a much better experience. Overall would not recommend if seeking a true custom luxury home. The vendors you need to select from are too limited and the upgrade costs were excessive. Not the experience we were hoping for for our new home.
