Newman's DesignBuilding Designers and Drafters, Home BuildersVerne did a great job in helping us renovate a home built in 1898. He came out and did complete as built measurements of the current structure . From those drawings he was able to give us our options on how to best renovate the home and add some updates including an additional structure we wanted incorporated. I highly recommend Verne if you need house drawings for either new or renovation projects.

Carolina Home Sales and Construction, LLCHome Builders, New Home ConstructionTypical Job Cost: $4,000 - 500,000
Carolina Home Sales and Construction, LLC is a full service construction company, specializing in roofing and everything from small scale projects to full remodel projects! I look forward to working with you on your next project!
I recently was in need of new shingles for my roof due to wind and storm damage. After shopping around with several roofing companies, I hit the jackpot when I discovered that Carolina Home Sales and Construction, LLC provided these specific services. Long story, short, I could not be more pleased with the work provided by Mr. Bill and his crew! To begin with, they were very patient with me as I struggled to select the "perfect" shingles for my home and provided me with many samples to choose from, along with an explanation of the pros and cons of each one. Secondly, the workers were polite, respectful, hard-working and they demonstrated expertise in roofing skills and left my yard in tip-top shape upon completion of their work! Finally, the cost of the project was very fair and honest and much more reasonably priced than the other contractors that offered an estimate for the job! It is so refreshing to do business with true professionals who actually do what they promise to do in a timely and efficient manner. I truly love my beautiful new shingled roof as my home has never looked prettier!

Stan built our house for us this past year and we could not be happier! We picked him because he had a reputation of being dependable and working well with people building from out of state. I am sure I annoyed him plenty with my constant texting but he never let it show. He was incredibly responsive! And I found I could trust him for advice when I was hitting the decision fatigue that everyone building a house eventually deals with. Even better, we only went a little over budget, due entirely to my selections. He warned me every time about what it would cost and he was always spot on. No surprises! Our house is gorgeous and I wouldn’t change a thing. If you want a quality custom builder you can trust, go with Paradime.

Ham Construction & Design, LLCGeneral Contractors, Home BuildersTypical Job Cost: $50,000 - 500,000
Ham Construction and Design, LLC is a residential and commercial construction and remodeling company dedicated to customer satisfaction. We handle everything from custom homes, kitchen remodels, decks and so much more. Let our team of experts guide you through the process from start to finish.
I would recommend anyone considering Ham’s Construction and Design to do your research. Go online to Florence County permits and search past and active, then call those homeowners. We started our remodel in June 2021, it’s now March 2022 and we are no where close to being done. If you’re home or business is in the city limits, they don’t have a permit search option, so I suggest going to the office. Almost eight months after going through this remodel nightmare, we found our remodel didn’t have a permit. We weren’t the only home, there was another homeowner who also hired this company that received a “Stop Work Order” from the county. Ham Construction and Design should have filed for the appropriate permits before starting work. He knows Florence County requires these permits. He then used subcontractors who are unlicensed and some have a lengthy criminal history. We trusted Ham Construction and Design to hire reputable subcontractors and vet them. He also used an electrician who doesn’t have a license. Live hot wires were left dangling under our home and in the kitchen, this is an extreme fire and safety risk. Subcontractors didn’t cover floor vents and then scraped the popcorn from the ceilings. The wet debris fell clogging our vents and duct work after it dried and hardened. We’ve had to replace all the duct work costing extra, neither Stephen or Angie Ham (she is the President) have called to state they will reimburse for repairs. They haven’t even offered an apology. Mr. Ham went on Facebook and also stated our minor children were a reason for delays, yet failed to mention our twins are 15 yrs old. They were gone for the entire summer, and leave for school daily at 7:30am, and generally don’t return until after 4pm. He then tried to blame delays on our dogs who went outside. Every issue is someone else’s fault and he’s not above blaming kids. We’ve had other homeowners reach out to us stating they are also having issues. There have been complaints filed with LLR. Florence County and City are also now aware of these issues. Mr. Ham still refuses to show us a current copy of his Insurance Certificate and Bond, he blames this delay on a family member. This is just a small portion of the nightmare we have endured. We have texts, pictures, and video of everything. We have a detailed timeline of issues. It’s been over 4 weeks and we haven’t seen Stephen or Angie Ham. The tools for their business have been left at our home, there is saw sitting in our garage, ladders in our kitchen, it’s ridiculous. Like others, I’ve done my research to see where there might be other financial issues and I encourage others to do the same (property taxes and vehicle). I wanted to save the solid wood kitchen cabinets in the home bc they were sentimental and the mere fact they are solid wood. The cabinets left to go to a painter and returned a disaster. Before leaving our home they were stained wood, and were supposed to be sanded, primed, and painted white. You can see below how they came back to us. They were all stuck together and had been left outdoors. They were never sanded. When moisture hits the wood they sweat orange. When I complained and stated they had to be redone, Mr. Ham told me those cabinet doors couldn’t be used anyway. How can that be, they were just removed from the kitchen. He stated if I wanted hidden hardware, I would have to get new doors, yet other contractors have told me that makes no sense and is not true. That leaves a bigger question, knowing I wanted hidden hardware the entire time, why did Mr. Ham send the cabinet doors out to be painted and charged us? Mr. Ham also installed the new floors in our living room himself. He stated flooring professionals were booked. The new floors are completely destroyed and weren’t laid correctly. He blames the installation and flooring issues on bad product. An independent flooring contractor (sent by the company) came out and stated they were indeed installed incorrectly. Mr. Ham also laid the floors before painting was completed. The floors are now stained with paint. They have gaps and he nailed floating floors to our wall meaning they can’t expand to adjust to temperature changes. We have been told the floors in the living room have to be pulled up and replaced. The new subfloors also weren’t leveled and a leveling agent wasn’t used on the new floating floors. When people give you money to complete a job and that job misses over 5 deadlines, including holidays, it’s not ok. When the negligence of a General Contractor and Company President results in a child’s asthma getting worse, it’s unacceptable. We have gone above and beyond to show compassion and patience, it’s only kicked us in the butt. While homeowners suffer, Stephen and Angie Ham live in a luxurious large home and drive very nice vehicles. They eat at nice restaurants by choice while homeowners live without kitchens for over ten months. Again, don’t take my word for it, do your research or contact me and I will give you numbers to call. Mr. Ham comes across as the nicest person you’ll ever meet, nice people finish jobs, nice people pull permits, nice people don’t blame teenagers who are at school for delays, nice people don’t let an asthmatic child suffer knowing vents are clogged (I have the text). Do your research.

Greentree ConstructionHome BuildersAfter living in our house for a few months, we decided to have the wall between the family room and kitchen taken out to open up the room. We also had a larger built-in made for extra shelving and storage space around the television. GreenTree Home Renovations came with a strong referral so they were chosen for the project. The initial inspection revealed that the wall was load bearing and was used to help support the second floor and the roof. We thought that the project would have to be cancelled, but they were able to give us what we wanted by incorporating pillars in the design and additional support beams in the ceiling. We are so glad that we had the work done. It has completely changed the look of the room and we love the way it turned out. The built-in turned out great and they also helped with the audio portion by installing speakers in the ceiling. The employees of GreenHome Renovations were professional and very easy to work with. All of the projects were done within budget as well. They will definitely be called for any future projects.
