“We had the good fortune to choose Meiste Homes in Holland to build our dream retirement home in Douglas, Michigan. Can’t speak highly enough of owners Brian & Amber Meiste and the team assigned to our project. From the front office, to our project manager, designer, and all of the laborers and sub-contractors. All were highly experienced, professional, courteous and made us feel like we were their only project. Communication was a high point - we were kept informed on all details and scheduling of the project with any questions we had always answered quickly. They helped us work through issues that arose and explained our options clearly. Any overages from the original bid were on our part in making new material/design changes during the build process. The craftmanship, attention to detail, and quality throughout the house exceeded our expectations and went beyond what we had hoped for, AND we were able to take possession of our home exactly as planned in May of 2025. We had been warned that building a home would be a stressful, unpleasant experience. Not with this team! So many times, the Meiste team went above and beyond for us: handling last minute design or material changes, going to bat for us on supplier issues, and handling little details that we never expected (like dealing with perturbed neighbors). “Designing and building your first home is an emotionally rewarding experience but it can be challenging at times given the collaborative nature of the process and the steady stream of decisions that can have an impact on the budget. Having a builder you trust as well as like is essential to making the house-building experience a good one. My husband and I interviewed three builders recommended by our architect.
