I have had the pleasure of working with Jeff Hand on our kitchen remodel. He has impressed me at every stage. When I first emailed him, I was so pleased to hear back from him that same day! His communication skills are excellent. When he says he will meet you at 10am, he actually shows up on time! Jeff is very skilled and experienced in so many areas of construction. He gave me so much advice and helped to make my kitchen beautiful. He takes pride in his work and makes sure everything is done right with no short cuts. I would highly recommend Jeff for any construction project.

Jeff Hand, owner of J. A. Hand Construction, is the consummate Custom Home Builder and Remodel professional whose shared vision with clients is unparalleled in my decades as a homeowner. Had I met Jeff as I was starting major and minor remodels of our mid-century modern home, it would be flaw-free, from design to execution. At this late date, I am privileged to benefit from his broad scope of experience and his ability to enhance our home with details that I could not have envisioned. He regards each project as an opportunity to bring a home to its fullest design and function potential. To the advantage of his clients, the common thread among his accomplished team of subcontractors and suppliers is that they are equally “picky” – “picky-perfect” would be more accurate. Given the opportunity to build a new home at this late stage of my life, my first call would be to Jeff for design/construction services from conception to completion. Professionally and personally, Jeff is unmatched in my 40 years of experience.

We found Jeff Hand on Houzz and appreciated the woodwork and craftsmanship displayed in the project photos. After contacting Jeff and meeting with him to bid a stairwell trim and railing project, we discussed several other challenges we were having on other projects. His expertise and knowledge became readily apparent. Whether performing the work himself or personally monitoring sub-contractors on what became a dozen projects he completed for us, his attention to detail was great. Anything he did, was done well with great communication on both budget options and timing. The relationship was one of trust and confidence. I would recommend Jeff to anyone and know that he would do a good job for them.

We hired Jeff Hand to provide general contracting services for our “major” kitchen remodel, our first project of this magnitude, and he did much more than that. He contributed fresh insights into our existing design plans that were able to turn a challenge into an asset for us. He offered several options in an effort towards “value engineering”, that is managing our costs through material or method choices. We believe this was Jeff’s first venture into working with DIY homeowners but his experience and professionalism helped to make this arrangement a success. He was able to help us organize and prioritize our efforts to contribute to the project while keeping it moving forward at good pace. His own subcontractors were top-shelf but he oversaw their work with the sharpest of scrutiny daily nevertheless. He was present throughout the project and was ready and able to do any of the mundane or requisite tasks that were needed to support the subs in performing their specialty duties. He never created problems or performed unnecessary work; we could trust that anything he said needed to be done was legitimate. His work was of exceptional quality, using high-grade materials and never cutting corners, the upside of which is pride, gratification, and peace of mind but, of course, is something that comes at a monetary cost. Ultimately, our project was completed within range of our initial time frame. Jeff was able to resolve every problem that we presented or encountered to our mutual satisfaction. If he is willing and available when we’re ready, we are planning to utilize Jeff’s services on the next phase of our remodel.

Thanks to JA HAND Construction. My husband and I love the convenience and aesthetics of our remodeled Laundry /Bath. From the beginning of the project JA Hand Construction couldn't have been more accommodating. Jeff visited our home and we discussed our needs for the laundry area. He immediately recognized our laundry room door needed to swing out rather than in. Doing that made a big difference on efficiency of the space. Can't believe NO ONE suggested that sooner. It only only took Thirty years! Before we knew it he e-mailed us three options (drawings) for the remodel with a cost analysis of each. Since I use a wheelchair part of the time to Jeff's credit he wanted to facilitate a design that was functional for me. Our choice ended up being both cost effective and functional. Before I knew it Jeff was wheeling me down my driveway , loading up my wheelchair, and we were off to choose new flooring and counters. I had trouble deciding on colors . JEff made it clear he was good at such decisions. That was a great stress reliever for me. All fixtures used for our laundry/bath space were researched by Jeff, especially our new stackable front loading washer and dryer. Both price point and dimensions determined our final choice as well as appearance. We enjoyed furnishing the entire room with quality fixtures. Washing clothes is now fun and less fatiguing. I can stand in one spot to accomplish the task. And, having modern appliances is fantastic! We always knew a day in advance when Jeff and his crew would arrive. They were amazingly punctual!! Any mess was minimal since they screened off all work areas with plastic. As promised our main project was completed as scheduled. Thanks to his many skills Jeff noticed a front porch support post and two porch steps needed to be replaced . He also repaired our entryway hardwood floors, and replaced our main bath sub flooring and linoleum flooring of 30 years . We were impressed to see the BOSS doing physical labor as much as his subs (crawling under the house more than once). He never cut corners and always patiently explained how to do something. He enjoyed all aspects of his work. J.A. Hand construction completes both large and small projects. I feel lucky they have agreed to complete a project or two come June of 2014 for us. Jeff Hand has remodeled two bathrooms and a front porch for me, and supervised the construction of a concrete staircase. Jeff is a master craftsman, does immaculate carpentry, and he is a perfectionist. He is completely transparent about costs and timing, knowledgeable about all aspects of construction, and highly skilled in dealing with subcontractors and material suppliers. I've relied on Jeff for both design and execution. His solutions are practical and elegant. Examples: putting a washer and dryer under a long countertop in a narrow bathroom and making it work both visually and functionally; designing and building (from scratch, and in the pouring rain) a new front porch that gives character to an otherwise dull Victorian. In every case his eye for design is ruled by proper building technique. He pays equal attention to the overall scheme and the smallest detail. I give him the highest recommendation.
