My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

Anzac Developments
Multigenerational Home Builders in Kirkwood
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsOctober 7, 2025
“My home sustained siding, roof, window and interior drywall damage following a tornado. Anzac managed the process from start to finish. Their team dealt with the insurance company and negotiation to ensure the necessary funding to complete the repairs properly. They managed the repairs from start to finish, and made the entire process painless. I could not be happier with the renovations!”

“We cannot recommend Aleto Construction Group enough! We had been wanting to add space to our home for years and after working with the team at Aleto our dreams have come true! The folks at Aleto (Patti, Mike, Alan, Jaime, Dean, Eric, and Chris) are talented, skilled, responsive, respectful, efficient, and extremely thoughtful. From the initial meeting and throughout the planning and building process, the team at Aleto kept us informed and were there to make sure everything was done well. We had a crew of folks working in our house for months while they built the addition. Every worker was professional, kind to our often anxious dog, respectful of the space, and took their various crafts seriously. It was extremely comforting to be able to leave for work every day confident that the job was getting done and the house was cared for. Living in construction is always stressful but when they were finally finished…we realized how much we had gotten used to the guys being around. They felt like part of the family. We are absolutely delighted with our new spaces and love how the addition added to our home. If you are looking for a firm that has the head, the heart, the personal touch, and the expertise to help make your dreams come true, we recommend you call Aleto Construction Group.”
Nistenhaus Design LLC
Multigenerational Home Builders in Kirkwood
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsApril 4, 2024
“They’re brilliant, kind, and on top of their game. We were fortunate enough to be able to pursue a total gut and rebuild of our kitchen and bath, and they were able to work their magic unrestrained. First, they elegantly solved the matter of feng shui in our awkwardly laid out kitchen on the second floor of our narrow century home. Then we enjoyed the aesthetics phase of our design meetings. They always proposed a variety of options, but I’m not sure it was ever necessary. They knew what we wanted better than we did, and our feedback was rarely anything other than “wow, we love that”. The style is captivating, timeless, and unique. Finally came the action phase of our renovation. The nature of our work required nearly every type of tradesman, especially with having to accommodate for the unique circumstances of our particular project. Though the coordination of it all was quite complex, they were communicative and flexible with us. Most importantly, they handled all the details while we focused on our lives and watched patiently as the work came to fruition. In the end, we couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. No regrets whatsoever. Admittedly, we made no compromises and paid the appropriate costs for our bougie project (which they prepared us for from the beginning), but this was an investment that has paid dividends in joy and will continue to yield happiness every day for many more years to come. Thank you so much Michael, Justin, and the Nistenhaus team!”

Custom Home Builder FAQs
The duration of a multigenerational home project varies based on the projectʼs scope, complexity, and size. Generally, designing and building a custom multigenerational home can take anywhere from 10 to 18 months from initial consultation to completion. Projects involving significant modifications to existing homes may have shorter timelines. Early engagement with a builder to establish a realistic timeline is crucial for planning purposes.
Material and design trend selection is a collaborative process that considers durability, maintenance, sustainability, and aesthetics suitable for all ages. Multigenerational Home Builders often recommend materials and designs that offer long-term value, are environmentally friendly, and can be easily adapted or updated. They stay informed on the latest trends and innovations in home design to suggest options that blend style with functionality, ensuring the home remains modern and accommodating for years to come.
Homeowners should start by defining their familyʼs needs, preferences, and budget. Researching local zoning laws and restrictions is essential to ensure the planned project is feasible. Gathering inspiration for design and functionality can help communicate your vision to the builder. Additionally, having an open dialogue about expectations and roles among family members will facilitate smoother decision-making during the building process.
Builders address challenges such as privacy concerns, differing design tastes, and budget constraints by engaging in thorough planning and communication from the outset. They employ creative design solutions to ensure private spaces for each family unit while optimizing communal areas. Transparent, regular communication helps manage expectations and mitigate conflicts. Builders also work closely with homeowners to navigate budget constraints, offering alternatives that align with the projectʼs goals without compromising quality.
Accessibility considerations include ensuring that the home can accommodate family members with mobility challenges. This includes incorporating features like wider doorways, no-step entries, bedroom and full bathroom on the main level, and potentially installing assistive devices like stairlifts or elevators. Multigenerational Home Builders can advise on universal design principles that make the home accessible and comfortable for all ages and abilities.
To keep a multigenerational home project on budget, clear and detailed communication with your builder about financial limits from the start is vital. Request a comprehensive, itemized quote to understand all potential costs. Regularly review expenditures and progress with the builder to ensure the project remains aligned with the budget.
