Unfortunately Mike's definition of, "Being hard to work with" is that is wants everything for free and when he is told no, we are are accused of being hard to work with because we don't give him everything for free. Just like other businesses we are here to offer a quality product for a reasonable price, we can't afford to give everything away for free.
During any build it is very difficult when the client's don't communicate to each other, unfortunately this was the case in this build. There were times when our staff would consistently question if the clients were talking to each other or not, as we would often get the same question from each of them, some times in the same day.
As with any company, we have no control over the off duty actions of our employees. Not sure how someone getting into a car accident has anything to do with my character. The project manager assigned was well qualified, but made a bad decision.
We require all selections, plans and specs to be signed off prior to beginning the home. We are able to apply for well, septic, driveway permits, but we can not apply for the land use or building permit until these items are signed off. This was explained several times prior to beginning the process,
As with any custom built home there are going to be areas of miscommunication and understanding. However one of them wasn't the wood floor. I was personally at the final walk through with our after care agent and we gave them, as we do with all our clients, a humidistat and told them where to keep the humidity. The final punch list was reviewed and the floors looked amazing. During a later visit both the flooring contractor and our after care agent recorded elevated humidity in the home. The home owner is the only one that can control the humidity in the home by monitoring the humidistat provided and placed by us at the walkthrough. If humidity is not maintained any natural materials such as wood floors will swell, this was the case with this home.
This was explained to the homeowner at the walkthrough when they were given the humidistat as well as during the visits from our flooring rep and aftercare agent. Separate from all of this Pathway Home's has all of their home inspected by an independent third party, this house was no exception and the floors were noted to be in satisfactory condition. Lastly the owners met with a separate flooring inspector who wrote in his own inspection,.........The independent report from the inspector says that the, “Ambient conditions inside the home are not being properly monitored” and “The cupping, compression fractures, slivers and delimitation of the planks is caused by lateral pressure, and an increase in moisture content”. Although the issue was caused by the owner's inaction, we offered to repair the areas affected, home owner was not interested. Would have provided photos, but Houzz only allows 4 in this response.
Concerning the wall being placed in the wrong spot, we excepted full responsibility of this mistake and were preparing to move the wall to the proper location, when the owner approached us with the proposal to pay them $4000. The worse part was the owner new the wall was in the incorrect spot for some time and waited to the end to make us aware of it. Oddly enough, a client that would do such a thing, is the only client to give us a negative review in 9 years.
