Ok so this is going to be a bit long, apologies upfront. But for me to give a proper representation of our experience building a home with Putman Builders, I need to spend a little time… so here we go.
After living in a townhome for over 10 years and saving up some money, it was time for my family to move into a home with more space and we wanted a huge yard. We started the journey looking at existing homes. We must have looked at a few dozen or so and didn’t find anything that checked all the boxes, so we started researching the process of building a home. The process seemed a little overwhelming, so my wife and I were not sure what the next step would be. Perhaps we needed to look at even more existing homes?? Then, one morning while eating breakfast at our favorite local restaurant, our real estate agent Ray Morandi and mortgage guru Tony Reda, told us about a builder they were working with on a new sub division in Frankfort IL. Seeing as though we have always loved Frankfort, and have looked at several existing homes in the town, my wife said “lets go check it out”. So we finished our omlettes and pancakes and off we went.
We pulled into the subdivision, made our way to the model home/office and we were introduced to Putman Builders. We met with Jason Putman, sat down with him and had a conversation. As a sales professional myself, I appreciated Jason’s approach. He didn’t start by telling us what Putman Builders could do for us, or show us brochures etc. Instead, he sat us down and started by getting to know us and what our ideal situation looked like, and what was most important in our future home. We discussed our must have’s, our budget, etc. After talking for a while I felt like Jason really had a handle on what we were looking for. Jason then introduced us to his father, Tony Putman. Jason and Tony got us all some coffee, sat down and then we started to look at a few floorplan ideas. I could tell my wife was getting excited because the floorplan ideas were all hitting near the mark for what we were looking for. After spending a few hours with Tony and Jason, we left with some ideas and told them we would be doing some thinking and would let them know what our plan was. They showed us to the door, gave my wife a hug (yes they bonded pretty quickly lol), shook my hand and told us they were there if we needed anything. This was all done with no hassles, no sales pitches, and I felt they spent quality time with us which left us both with the feeling they really knew what our needs were. We left and spent the next week or so deliberating…
A week later we decided we were going to build a home with Putman Builders. We then spent the next few weeks finalizing floorplans, picking options, adding this, removing that, etc. etc. At times I went a little overboard admittingly, I am a Leo after all and we tend to spritz things up a little. When I would go on these tangents, Jason and Tony would both weigh in and remind me of the budget criteria we had initially set and often would talk me off the ledge to make more financially responsible decisions. I really appreciated them for this as they were not just trying to sell me and make more money. They both really seemed to care that we were conscious of our decisions and tried there best to keep our build within the budget we had initially set for ourselves. After a few weeks we ended up with a highly modified floorplan and at a price point we felt was very fair. We had already secured financing at this point, so we deliberated for a few days, talked to friends and family, asked around town for feedback, then decided to pull the trigger with Putman!!
During the entire build process Jason and Tony were in constant communication with us and very accommodating. They even let me supply my own materials for certain things and worked with us on every single aspect of the build. We knew about every milestone and felt as though we were part of the entire building process. I was onsite with them at least a few times per week, walking the job, meeting the workers, checking on the workmanship, setting schedules, making decisions, making exterior and interior selections, the list goes on.
Being in the mechanical construction field myself I understand not everything is always perfect and delays and minor problems can arise in large scale projects. Honestly, some did for us as well, but nothing out of the ordinary. When these minor things would pop up Putman would communicate to us well in advance of not only the challenge, but the resolution path. Look, building a home is a very emotional journey. You as the buyer have a boatload of money invested in this endeavor and you want everything to be perfect. You want to make sure your getting the best quality product you can get and in the most painless and streamlined fashion possible. I can tell you this whole heartedly, building this home with Putman Builders was an absolute dream. We had the best positive experience I think anyone could hope to have which in turn fills the home with positivity right off the bat.
We met Putman Builders as strangers, became business partners, and moved on hopefully as lifelong friends. Jason and Tony Putman as two of the most honest, hardworking, passionate and fine examples of human beings as you could hope to find in this world and I would recommend them to anyone looking to build their future home.
