We were very thankful to design some of Summits beautiful homes - they have been award winners and we really appreciate Summits attention to detail, professionalism, commitment, and flexibility. We especially enjoy their latewood finish, natural cedar flares and character and the entire staffs creativity to push the envelope and realm of possibilities to bring unique elements to our clients homes.
They are always on time, readily available, and bring tremendous value to our clients projects.
We highly recommend the Summit Team! The entire process is always cooperative, efficient, and thoroughly enjoyable.

I found all of the people in the company excellent to work with which made the whole log home building experience very enjoyable. The log home Summit built for me is cozy, elegant and full of character, exactly what I was hoping for.

I was happy when we received the logs, after a year there was settling that caused windows to be pinched and not open. I had there log stacker come to fix and he also built the house. That person totally hacked the job and broke all the fins on the windows.I had a professional come in to repair which he did a great job. Summit refused to take responsibility for the flaw design in there log craftsmanship. They did admit they could have designed it correctly.
Company does not stand behind there product and very rude. they are nice when selling there product but awful when something goes wrong.
GOING GREEN IS NOT ALWAY BETTER!!
Stay away from small companies, they are a dime a dozen.
All this money i spent!!!! BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment from Summit Log & Timber Homes:
In 20 years of business, this is the very first negative review/comment we have received. As seen on our website, we have received numerous testimonials written by happy clients throughout the years. We have earned our well-respected reputation in our industry because of the high-quality work that we do, our passionate and talented handcrafters/crew, and our commitment to honor our agreements—which we did in this case as well.
We always use the highest quality wood and employ the best joinery techniques available, to anticipate and mitigate the natural shrinkage and settling that occurs when building a full-scribe log home. It is standard practice to build with green/live-cut logs so that the moisture content is consistent throughout the log structure as it is being crafted.
No log company includes future maintenance of a log home due to shrinkage and settling in their contract or warranty. Our purchase contract and warranty clearly state that such shrinkage and settling will naturally occur—and clearly falls under the category of log home maintenance, which is the sole responsibility of the homeowner (as shown below):
Summit Log & Timber Homes, Inc. warrants its log products to be free from defects in manufacturing or workmanship for as long as they are owned by the original purchaser, subject to the limitations set forth herein. This warranty does not extend to the inherent characteristics of wood. The owner acknowledges that it has been made fully aware that wood naturally can warp, twist, check, crack, and discolor. Owner also acknowledges that it has been made fully aware that shrinkage and settling in log building is natural and normal.
Our company supplied the log work according to the engineered specifications. We did not design, engineer, nor stick-frame the home. We did not install the windows or perform any repairs on them.
In this case, the window buck became out of square because the cross corner settled 5/8” more than the center of the wall. Fortunately, the fix was quick and inexpensive. The widow unit did not have to be replaced. However, the window unit had to be removed, buck squared up, and reinstalled. The trim was also replaced. This took 2 men 1½ days to complete. This is the first time we have encountered a window buck getting out of square. Even so, it was not a result of faulty log crafting—a determination that was confirmed by the firms that designed and engineered the home. As such, our company cannot be held accountable for something that is clearly outside of the scope of our work, our contract, and our warranty.
The cabin is absolutely stunning and was featured in Log Cabin Homes Magazine, May 2019.

I have provided structural engineering services for Robert Lockerby and Tim Miller for about 15 years on well over a hundred of their log home projects. They have always been professional and provide an outstanding product for their customers. I have honestly never heard a complaint about the work that they do. When we are asked for recommendations on who to use for log home construction, we always recommend Summit Log & Timber Homes.

I have worked with Robert on a number of projects over a 15 year period and have always had excellent service and a very high quality product. I look forward to working with him in the future.

Summit log & timber homes have been a pleasure to work with organizing and building a large 10 000 sqft log home project we designed last year.
The log shell was delivered in time and reassembled on site by Summit professional crew within schedule and it all fit together just right as per our plans.
Owners Robert and Tim have been available by phone and email at all time to discuss construction details and logistics.
Their decades of experience in the business shows.
As a log home architectural designer, I do recommend Summit without any reservation.
