We had some surprises hiding in our old house, of course - Phillip and the team adapted or brought us options to choose from so that we’d still end up with the kitchen we were looking for, and followed up on issues promptly. Phillip does a fantastic job of bringing in trades and craftspeople who are really committed to doing quality work as part of an integrated team - plus everyone was super friendly and considerate, which made living through a long project that much easier! Oprah Winfrey once said “Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.” Phillip Tryon and his team exemplify this attribute. After 30 years of home ownership including multiple renovations (including several with Phillip working as a GM from another company and the most recent and extensive renovation using his own company, Tryon Homes) we can attest that Phillip is extremely honest, exceptionally hard working, and 100% reliable. I can guarantee he will not submit the lowest bid for a project, but he will give a thoughtful, honest bid and then deliver the utmost in quality. Phillip and his team treated our home with care and respect – the construction site remained amazingly clean, and non-renovated portions of the home were well protected. His crew was extraordinarily talented and came up with creative solutions in the cabinetry and stonework and lighting with wonderful results. There was a constant attention to detail by everyone who came into our home. Phillip treats his team with respect and there is a great sense of creative collaboration between he and his workers. Phillip is confident but not arrogant; he admits when he isn’t sure but will do everything in his power to find an answer. There were countless times during our project that Phillip went above and beyond what was simply required of him or his team to make our vision a reality. For instance, paint color trials were not simply swaths on the wall - it was multiple large boards painted and carried to different parts of the room in different lights on different days so as to be able to visualize the colors more fully. Ditto for placement of a bathroom vessel sink and tall faucet – not simply a “it should go here” but a full scale sized foam cut-out of same to judge proper counter height and sink placement to test practical matters such as comfort in washing hands and turning knobs. And things that we homeowners would never see such as extra insulation around pipes to help quiet their sound, special screws to eliminate squeaks in the subfloor, extra heavy duty metallic framing to securely hold wall mounted fixtures, and special hidden rollers for smoothly gliding pocket doors, etc. And even helpfulness in things outside of his construction scope such as fixing cable TV issues when ATT could not, simply because he was able to figure out how and was simply glad to help. In summary, it is our honor to give Tryon Homes our highest recommendation.

At Jim Farris Cabinets we have been building high-end custom cabinets and furniture for over 40 years and have worked with numerous general contractors and builders. I must say that working with Phillip Tryon is a real pleasure. He runs the cleanest, safest jobsites we have ever been on! He makes sure that we have clear communication between all parties involved. He is easy to get ahold of too. His selection of skilled workers in all trades makes for an exceptional end product. He goes out of his way to make sure that he understands the details of our cabinet work and coordinates well between all trades in difficult areas. He sets up office on the jobsite and is there most of the time. That really makes a difference when it comes to working through the problems that come up daily on every project. As we went through the design process with our architects, we faced the daunting prospect of finding just the right builder to construct the home of our dreams, having heard every horror story imaginable from friends and family about their own tortuous remodel or new construction experience with residential builders. Choosing the right builder will make the project engaging, low-stress and rewarding in terms of quality, cost and schedule; picking the wrong builder will yield exactly the opposite result. We connected with Phillip quickly, did a deep dive on his experience and references, and concluded that he was the right builder for us. It was a leap of faith at the time, but the best decision we made on our home rebuild project. Having worked with Phillip for over two years (six months of design and a year and a half of construction), we can attest to the full spectrum of qualities that impress us about him. There were times when difficult news needed to be conveyed, but he was as calm, candid and forthright in discussing tough issues and seeking solutions as he was in in everyday conversation. Another characteristic that distinguishes Tryon Homes is its unyielding commitment to quality. Phillip always does what’s right, not just easy, resulting in a home that is built safe, strong, secure and to code, in addition to being beautiful. Almost daily, throughout the construction process, we watched in awe as Phillip's impressive technical expertise was brought to bear on every aspect of the project, large and small. From protecting the legacy trees on the lot to double checking engineering calculations during the forming and pouring of the foundation to detailed coordination with all trades to ensure that the house was being built to specifications, no detail escaped him. His laser focus on quality flows through to the subcontractors he typically uses, who push each other to better their work so that it will meet the high bar of Phillip’s expectations. A key factor in ensuring that a home is built according to specifications (and the client’s expectations) is being on site continuously during construction, which Tryon Homes excelled at. He was the complete antithesis of the “drive by” builder. Following demolition, he set up an office on our lot, then moved onto the slab when it was poured, then into various parts of the house as they were built. The advantages of having Phillip on site each and every day were powerful, providing him with accessibility for his subcontractors, the consultant team and us. He could spot actual and potential coordination issues, maintain high quality control standards, and was able to provide rapid feedback and responses to questions, crucial to maintaining schedule. Another characteristic that distinguishes Phillip is his always-positive can-do attitude with which he approaches everything. We wanted a completely custom home with few standard details, so it was gratifying to see him embrace the innumerable challenges we threw at him with enthusiasm and a powerful desire to not just meet but to exceed our expectations. This is a character trait you’re born with: you’re either a “high challenge” personality or not, and he is definitely on the “high challenge” end of the personality spectrum, which is good news for his clients. His enthusiasm is infectious, which made every stage of the project fun for us. As is usually the case in life, you get what you pay for. While we might have found a slightly lower cost alternative to Tryon Homes, we’re positive that our journey would not have been as joyous and magical as it was, and know in our heart of hearts that we would not be living in the stunningly perfect home that Phillip built for us, a home built with professionalism, dedication, collaboration and, above all, love.

"Tryon Homes, a high integrity straight shooter you can trust for the highest quality, whatever your price range" Phillip Tryon was our Project Manager for a large remodel/rebuild, 12 month project Dec 2010 to Dec 2011, almost twice the value of the house. We subsequently engaged Tryon for a high quality, custom deck replacement and house generator with decorative fencing and landscaping, 1 month in 2015. Times do not include architect. Phillip communicated clearly that he intended to help us realize our goals. The house was 34 years old and invariably remodels face unforeseen problems. We had our share. Handling these effectively is one measure of a good builder. Phillip called on his vast experience as a craftsman and builder to overcome these bumps seamlessly. We neither lost little time nor suffered in quality of result. A natural problem solver and innovator, Phillip provided high quality improvements to detailed architect’s plans on several occasions. A 2d measure of a builder is quality of subcontractors. The best enjoy working for the best, and Tryon has first class subs with long standing relationships. Some of our work was contracted in advance for varying reasons. Phillip willingly and skillfully took on the job of supervising and coordinating the work to insure quality services. How many builders would don coveralls and crawl under the slab to inspect all new sanitary sewer lines? Phillip did. We were delighted with the final product, better than I imagined possible, with improvements not able to be foreseen at the start. Why Tryon? - Top quality finished product – no defects - delivered on time and within the contract price. To be clear Tryon is not a “lowest bidder builder”. Rather, Tryon is a best value for the dollar builder for homeowners interested in quality. - Focus on insuring quality of the “bones” of the house, fundamental systems that comprise house integrity and eliminate risk of longer term, major problems. Too often houses are built from scratch or remodeled with attractive cosmetic features but shortcuts in sound construction. It’s my pleasure to heartily recommend Phillip Tryon as contractor extraordinaire! Phillip orchestrated a fairly extensive project for me, which involved the removal of a wooden deck and the installation of a sandstone patio and walkway and cedar pergola. We also replaced three doors to the patio and installed a slate surface on my front porch. He provided a fair and detailed estimate of the overall job and worked hard to obtain the best pricing and top quality subcontractor services. In addition to his excellent project supervision, Phillip turned out to be a hands-on problem solver. Often times, he worked right along side the subcontractors—assisting them with the various jobs. There were some “unknowns” in the job because we didn’t know the extent of disrepair until deconstruction commenced. Whenever we ran into a “snag,” he was always certain to carefully explain the problems and what my options might be in each situation. There’s something else that sets Phillip apart from those in his field. He never failed to go above and beyond what I expected—tracking down and picking up special parts, picking up items to save me multiple trips to hardware stores and doing whatever he could to make the project (and my life) run more smoothly. I have been particularly pleased that Phillip took a sincere interest in my project and is just as proud as I am with the excellent results!
