True professional! Hiring a contractor can be a scary thing. But it doesnt have to be when you get the right one. Dealing with Marvin was easy. He showed up on time, was clean, respectful, and made sure I understood the scope of work. Marvin and his crew had to first support the lower deck. They could then place jacks on the deck and underneath the second story to support the second story. They then removed a major support beam that was rotted, and replaced it with a new beam. After that they built an entire deck/balcony off the second story master and 2nd bedroom. I feel at peace knowing if there is another major renovation to be done, I'll have Marvin at my side. I highly recommed Vanguard North.

From our initial interview with Marvin, he intently listened to what we wanted for an extensive remodel/rebuilding of our family lake cottage. Our bathroom remodeling experience with Vanguard North was excellent! Marvin McPhate is highly professional yet very down to earth and easy to communicate with. All of the sub-contractors that he selected (tile, carpentry, plumbing, painting) were great and obviously take pride in their work. We are totally pleased with the finished product.

I hired Vanguard North to enlarge two rooms, my master bedroom and the family. The job also included a redo of the shower and tile added to the bathroom floor along with a few miscellaneous projects. Overall I was very pleased with the workmanship, professionalism, and cost. Marvin is a great person to work with.

I hired vanguard north inc to inclose a 13X23 ft beck to make a sunroom , with a small patio out back, also they took down a wall in the main part of the house to make one large room and trimmed it out . very satisfied with their work , and highly recommended them to anyone that needs this type of work

Over the years I have used Vanguard Marvin Mcphate on several projects such as a carport and 100 foot walkway that was coverd, several bathroom remodels and to extend my roof over my pool. I can't express that the professional work was completed by a true old time craftsmen that is a rare find. Prebuild computer images, bid and completion all looked alike. Marvin McPhate of Vanguard North has done number of remodeling and construction projects for us in the last 12+ years. Included in those projects: 1. An addition of 800 square feet to our home which included: enlarging one bedroom, adding a screened front porch, constructed a 2-car garage with a master bedroom, dressing area, and two closets above the garage. He also added a small screened porch onto the master bedroom. 2. He rebuilt the fireplace and chimney and the wisteria arbor. 3. Most recently, he supervised the replacement of all of the 1970's windows on the front of the house with energy-efficient windows plus a number of small repairs. This is the project that "the project cost" below refers to. Marvin is an exceptional professional to work with and his crew seems to enjoy working with and for him. He has always explained to us exactly what the process and costs would be and each job has always been extremely well-executed and we've been incredibly pleased with his attention to detail and to our questions and suggestions. The final "product" has always been as promised and he leaves the area "broom clean". We can recommend him without reservation!

Mr. McPhate did a job for us that required a lot of patience and he and his crew did a great job. We got a 203k rehab loan that required a lot of Mr. McPhate in dealing with the bank who wanted detailed breakdowns of the simplest part of our whole house rehab. Things were done as we asked and within a realistic timeline. We are very happy with the work and the professionalism of this company. Highly recommended to anyone.

Vanguard North, Marvin McPhate, designed the renovation of two house and completed the construction of both while maintaining the true character of the houses as we had wanted. He customized the molding to duplicate the molding that was in the 100 hundred year old house that was renovated. Additionally he maintained the footprint of both houses. He carefully reviewed each aspect of the work to be completed with us before proceeding. He displayed a demeanor and professionalism not often noted in other contractors. The work on both projects were completed before target date and within budget. Lanier Street Project Cost $156,310 and Short Street Project Cost $85,740.

Vanguard North was recommended to us by a colleague at work who had a porch added to their house, so I contacted Marvin and scheduled a visit to discuss how we could solve two problems: fix a leak in our existing roof and add a roof over our deck. Vanguard North enhanced the livability and enjoyment of our home by designing and building a large peaked roof over a the old flat roof and extending the roof over and beyond the deck, thus adding a lovely back porch. Work was handled very professionally. Everyone was punctual and easy to work with. Some time after the work was completed, we noted buckling of the shingles. Vanguard contacted the company and with their assistance, the defective materials were replaced without additional cost. Definitely recommended.

Marvin at Vanguard North has done several projects for us and they are all top quality. He added a front porch on our house that looks great. He also replaced the siding on our house when the original siding went bad. But the best project of all is the room we added on for a pool table/game room. It has short bookshelves with full windows on three sides. It is lovely! He has also helped us out with odd jobs around the house that were more than our ability. Marvin is terrific to work with and always does a great job!
