“Scott Borcherding of the Bergland & Cram firm of Mason City did the interior design restoration work on Frank Lloyd Wright's Park Inn Hotel. A citizens' group had the building restored; the firm won a major national historic preservation award last fall. The hotel is beautiful, reminiscent of FLW's Dana Thomas House in Springfield, Illinois--both are Prairie Style. The project involved the restoration of 62 stained glass windows and hotel rooms.”

“Kevin of Mainstream Cabinets did a total kitchen and entry (with laundry) remodels. Kevin was highly recommended by a coworker who gave him high marks for the project done in her home. After setting up an appointment, Kevin came to my house, asked questions regarding my wants and desires for this project, and listened to my answers. I interviewed two other companies, however, the design he drew up and showed me, fit with my goals and expectations. Kevin also became the general contractor, coordinating all of the workers, including plumbers, electricians, and demolition to keep the project timeline. Each day he kept us informed about progress or delays if there were any. At his shop, he showed me various cabinets, and styles with all amenities. One cabinet line was on sale but the other had more of what I wanted in cabinet such as: soft close doors and drawers, solid wood, tongue and groove drawers. I delayed but my budget dictated the lower cost. However, Kevin received word the others were going on sale in a couple of weeks and although it would delay the start date, the final project would be worth it. He, and the crews he hired, were knowledgeable, dependable and made the six weeks from beginning to end livable, cleaning up after themselves each day. Although the area is small, Kevin's ideas for placement and design made this space seem larger, beautiful and practical. He met and exceeded all my expectations. Kevin is easy to work with, knowledgable and very professional. He is not satisfied, unless you are satisfied. I really don't want to leave my kitchen!!!!”

“Bruce Hagen did a complete replacement of siding, shingles, and all historical trim details on our south side of our 94 year old home. His attention to detail was wonderful as I am very picky about things being as accurate to the period of the home. He and his crew did a great job and we are making plans for our next project for him to do. He also took some ideas I had and brought them to life with making our garage look more fitting with the architecture of the home and suggested some great ideas that took it even further. We are very happy and highly recommend him.”

“A new bathroom was constructed in the basement of our house. We bid the job out and Elias Construction was chosen. The main reason was he actually listened to what both I and my wife wanted. The estimate process was very detailed along with the timeline of the work. If there were any questions or requests he was easily reached and it was discussed in a timely manner. The construction was actually finished a few days early which gave us the opportunity to insure everything was done to our satisfaction. “We had a very good experience building with Dan Seavey. Unlike many builders in our area, Dan was personally present and active on the job site essentially every day (he built our home rather than just serving as an intermediary with a construction crew). This meant a lot to us. We were single digit percentage over budget on a large project that involved creating a building site in a rural area (no road, electricity, etc). The largest part of this was increased excavation costs; these were not avoidable and based upon the site we chose for the home (Dan had nothing to do with this). The other departures from budget were really for unforseen items or things we changed along the way. Friends who have built similar homes had a very different experience. Very good relationship with subs as well. We were certainly happy with the building process; although we don't intend to move and build again, I would happily work with Dan to build another home.”
