Interior Analysis by Allan Skriloff

We hired Allan Skriloff to help us with a renovation project for our newly acquired weekend home in Phoenicia. The house is a high-quality older home with "good bones", but had a very dated and poorly laid-out ground floor. He drove the conception (and construction - we'll get to that) of a much more functional space, including: 1. A completely redesigned kitchen with great light exposure, plenty of cabinet space, and an exterior glass-paned sliding door opening onto a newly constructed deck, with mountain views. 2. A new primary entrance to the home, with vastly increased light and a proper front closet. 3. A redesigned bathroom, optimizing the use of a relatively small space to accommodate a modern shower / sink / toilet with inlaid medicine cabinet. 4. A charming guest bedroom with access to the ground floor bathroom. 5. A living room / entertainment room, offices for my wife and myself, and a TV / game room for the kids. In all cases, Allan found cost-effective but elegant solutions for lighting and interior furnishing. He did much more than just this interior design, however. Several weeks into the job, our general contractor suffered a personal tragedy and was unable to complete the renovations. Allan was able to hire individual contractors and project-manage the job to completion, which was much more than we had bargained for. In all of this, my wife and I were rarely on site and not very responsive to requests for guidance (we both have very demanding jobs). Throughout, Allan did exemplary work and we could not be more delighted with the result. I would strongly recommend his services to anyone.

Allan did our Catskills home in NY several years ago and we were very happy with the results. When we moved across the Hudson river to Rhinebeck we asked for his help again. He is currently doing our kitchen, dining and living room areas. We have completed the kitchen and we are extremely happy with the results. We also asked for his help in our Winter home in Europe. He re-designed our kitchen and living areas with wonderful results. Allan is VERY reliable, trustworthy and easy to work with. He saves you money compared to other professionals I have worked with in the past, but most importantly, he is a very good designer. We highly recommend him.

I hired Allan to come to a home I had just purchased for an "interior analysis". Within minutes of looking the place over, he had extremely insightful and creative suggestions on how to make improvements to the layout of the house. I was impressed by his vision and hired him to help me design all the renovations for the house. Allan is an experienced designer who loves his work. Allan was a pleasure to work with. In addition to being a constant source of ideas and creativity, his devotion to the project was a source of great comfort and value. Allan's creativity and design paired with function to utilize the space you have is brilliant. Ordinary bookcases turned into a show piece and hid extra kitchen and office items to clear the clutter. My kitchen also is now a beautiful blend of function and design. Neutral and timeless and can be built upon and changed easily if desired.

Allan came in to help me redesign my kitchen and he ended up helping me completely redecorate the dining room as well. His ideas seem to flow effortlessly and he stays with the project , enouraging, advising, supervising. I love the new kitchen and the way it works and t;he dining room is wonderful and something I would never have come up with on my own. Along the way he taught me a lot about design and making a statement. He is full of energy and creativity and my 2 rooms got done on schedule just in time for a huge family reunion thanks to him.

Alan has a very good eye for quickly assessing spatial problems. He does pay attention to budgetary considerations. Alan turned a somewhat limited kitchen into a more open free flowing contemporary space, which i am very happy with,he even took charge of the mundane task of stacking dishes & spices away in the new cabinets. some confusion over missing or wrong parts of cabinetry from supplier,was less than satisfactory,but whose responsability that was is inconclusive.

Allan recently helped us plan and execute a gut-renovation of the second floor of our 1880s Catskills cottage, and working with him was a fantastic experience. We started out with a poorly designed, if nearly "original," upstairs: Two large bedrooms and a sad little bathroom which had been added decades after the house was built. Allan, truly gifted at space planning, created a design that utilized our copious closet space to carve out a third bedroom and create a large en-suite bathroom with a separate powder room. Allan designed an upstairs that flows wonderfully, and still retains wonderful closet space all around. The terrific use of space is the first thing friends mention when they see the renovation Allan is full of ideas, and always looked for ways to adapt and cater to our budget, especially when we were hit with unexpected structural expenses. Allan really, truly cared about the project, which was unbelievably helpful when we were overwhelmed or just busy with other tasks. In addition to the planning and helping with execution, Allan weeded through local architectural salvage lots to find us the perfect pedestal bathtub and vintage sink, and even negotiated a price for us! Allan delivered far more than he promised. With a 130-year-old house, we knew renovating it was going to be an adventure, but the finished result is more than we could have ever hoped for. We will enlist Allan again when we tackle the kitchen.

We recently bought an apartment in Manhattan and needed a designer to help us make the best of the small and seemingly awkward space with limited storage. We spent weeks searching the internet for a designer and finally came across Allan's profile on Houzz. When we first met, Allan indicated that he can help design the space but doesn't usually do any decorating work. Ultimately, he was able to build storage in such creative ways that we were able to fit all of our belongings without compromising the living space. He ended up helping us decorate the entire place, select paint colors and even helped us build furniture and unpack. He brought us some of his own furniture pieces after we failed to find anything we liked for the living room. He introduced us to an excellent and well priced contractor who did a marvelous job bringing to life Allan's inventive ideas. The apartment looks fabulous! We constantly get compliments from visitors on design as well as the creative storage solutions. Working with Allan was like hanging out with a friend. It was also a learning experience. My husband and I needed to create a first-floor bedroom/bathroom but were stymied by how to create it within the space we had. We live in a typical early 1900s New England village home with lots of small rooms that had been added to over its 100+ year history. We had three spaces to work with: a 10’ x 13’ room we used as a TV room from which a 3’ x 5’ half bath had been carved; a greenhouse attached to that room that we could no longer afford to heat; and a two-season porch next to the TV room. We also had a limited budget. I spent over a year juggling ideas of which rooms to use for what purpose before finding Alan Skriloff’’s name on internet. His designation as a “space specialist” was exactly what I needed and he did not disappoint. Within two hours, Alan came up with a plan for the three spaces that could be done in three phases. We have just completed phase 1, a handicapped accessible shower room and bedroom. The shower room is essentially a wet bathroom that doesn’t feel like one. A ‘passage’ leads through the shower room to the bedroom, with the toilet and sink on one side of the passage and the shower on the other but no barriers between the three areas. The room fits its space so well that friends have commented: “it looks as if it has always been there” and “I didn’t realize there was so much space there.” Alan combines his talent for space visualization with respect for the budget and a flair for décor. He helps keep the budget under control but also recognizes when exceeding the budget for an item will have a big impact. Alan convinced me to choose brushed stainless steel over chrome for the fixtures and it really makes a difference with the tiles we chose. His guidance has resulted in a truly beautiful and original space. Alan also listens to your input so you don’t feel like you’re losing control of the project. Alan was responsive above and beyond expectations. When my favorite contractor told me, on a Friday morning, that he could stop by the next day to talk about the project, Alan created and sent me initial drawings within a couple of hours, even though he was leaving that afternoon for the week-end. He also answers his phone and promptly responds to my emails. I still can’t quite imagine what we would have done if we hadn’t found Alan.

Caters to the customers needs and has an exceptional eye for best of use of space. worked with us throughout the house with kitchen, bathrooms, closets, porch, den, etc. design and finish. Highly recommend

How many superlatives do I need to describe Allan Scriloff and his work with me ? From our first consultation, using only a floor plan of my Manhattan apartment, he proposed at least 3 alternative ideas for the new kitchen, all of them exciting and creatively out-of-the-box. He then visited the apartment and the ideas flowed. He took into careful consideration my own tastes, the financial limits ( often offering creative alternatives to expensive items) and the appropriateness to the locale. We did major renovation and reconstruction, altering the kitchen floor plan and opening the space. He shopped with me, patiently, for cabinets, countertops, appliances, lighting . He worked closely with the contractor and workmen to see that every detail of the plan was carried out faithfully . When there was an error he insisted on having the work redone. He clearly took on the project as his "baby" and was determined to see it completed to his satisfaction. And mine ! I am delighted with the dramatic, sophisticated, streamlined look, perfect for a City kitchen. Actually it doesn't look like a kitchen, more like an art gallery .. and everything functions perfectly. My kitchen is unique. Now on to the decor. It continues to be a pleasure ( and a learning experience) to work with Allan. I could not have done it without him! He is a miracle-worker !
