Moroccan-hammam-inspired guest suite Guest Suite Renovation The Claremont house is nestled into a hillside at the end of a quiet, charming, tree-lined street. Its residents, an active professional couple with 2 young children and very affectionate cats, hoped to update their guest suite to provide their visiting friends and aging parents a peaceful, comfortable, and accessible retreat. We renovated the guest bedroom and bathroom to create a sanctuary inspired by Moroccan hammams. The deep green walls and walnut-stained floors of the bedroom create a cocooning sense of comfort, while hints of gold and color in the sconces and bedside tables add a touch of quiet luxury and visual interest. The adjoining ensuite bathroom is a showstopper, featuring floor-to-ceiling glazed zellige tile in creamy neutral tones. They pair beautifully with the burst of color in the Moroccan-inspired floor tiles and the luster of the polished chrome Rohl plumbing fixtures and accessories. The enameled cast iron sink, arched mirror, and terracotta pendant lights round out the space’s distinctive personality. With globally-inspired colors and elements, this guest suite now welcomes friends and family to enjoy a soothing and luxurious experience right in their home.

We were lucky to work on this 1907 Craftsman, which has been so thoughtfully cared for by the many families it’s been home to. So it was especially important to honor and maintain the character of the home with the renovation. We turned the oversized and inefficient bathroom layout into two bathrooms, one connected to the main hallway of the house and the other to the primary bedroom, which still left room for a sizable walk-in closet. The primary bathroom harmonizes with the dark redwood paneling in the home, with richer tones offset by the variegated lighter tones in the handmade shower tile. In the hallway bathroom, which would be used by the family’s young kids, we chose a more playful tone with pops of handmade touches and color as well as a rhythmic floor tile pattern.

Though small in stature this client has a larger than life personality! We really wanted to give her family something special to reflect her unique and individual style. She requested a custom light fixture and a large oval shaped table for entertaining guests. We set about creating these exceptional pieces to play off of one another. The asymmetrical chandelier (of which we made two versions from which to choose) reflects the off-center brass rays that are embedded in the walnut elliptical dining table. The table is supported by custom crafted tri-pod steel legs and surrounded by jewel toned chairs. Vivid gold walls complete the space which is anchored by a grand piano. The effect is a show-stopping dis- play worthy of any dinner party get together!
