DHD Architecture and Interior Design is a versatile practice that encompasses residential, commercial, retail and hospitality projects, with full service capabilities in ground-up architecture, site development, interior design, and fine art consulting. DHD maintains a diverse portfolio of work in New York as well as internationally, including an active practice in New Zealand that reflects principal David Howell’s creative ties to his home country. The philosophy of DHD begins with a commitment to outstanding service. Design excellence involves a deep understanding and development of our clients’ aspirations for their projects, as well as a thoughtful fulfillment of their real budgetary and scheduling goals. From early conceptual and planning stages through to construction documents and administration, our intent is to provide intelligent direction for our clients that will create both value and beauty. We focus on collaboration with all of the partners in the process, so that the design experience is transparent, responsive, foresighted, and flexible. The design foundation of the office is modernistic – an approach both naturalistic and modern that combines elemental and ecological forms with a minimized, sculptural architectural imprint. While we begin no project with a preconceived style, we do aim to instill spaces with certain principles: an appropriate bridging of indoors and outdoors; a wise and atmospheric use of light as a fundamental part of architecture; a sympathy for site and origin; an exciting use of materials; a marriage of the organic with the common and industrial. And in all of our work, we believe in peeling away generalized expectations to reveal a true sense of the occupant’s personality or the company’s brand, in a form that is elegant, joyful, and sustainable. Our team of 20+ designers has end-to-end experience in the complex process of building in urban settings as well as in the particular requirements of working with clients and companies abroad. We offer a skilled hand in the restoration of historical buildings, and we are expert at retrofitting modern systems while preserving original structures.
Specializing in serving a discerning clientele on the Main Line and Western Philadelphia suburbs we offer custom interior home design. Our most important goal is to understand our client's' style and lifestyle so that we can design spaces that uniquely reflect their personalities and use of the spaces. Our clients live in different styles of homes from historic homes to new construction. We especially love incorporating artistic elements and designing creative one-of-a-kind spaces for everyone in our clients' families to enjoy.

I believe that our homes are our sanctuaries and in that aspect they are sacred. Our homes and all that is within them are our habitats. We venture out into the world and we do our work but it is to home that we return. It is home where both the simplest and the greatest moments in life occur. It is home where we are free from expectations and pressures and it is home where we are nourished. I believe that these spaces; our homes and habitats, deserve care and attention. We know design has the power to transform a space but these spaces, once designed with the care and attention to detail which reflects you, have the power to transform our lives.

Hello! I'm Michelle Gage, a Philadelphia suburbs-based interior designer. I fell in love with interior design at an early age. My trusty Lisa Frank notebook was always at my side, full of floor plan sketches and decor ideas. I opened it up at every house I entered. Whether you wanted it or not, I was always there to offer a friendly floor plan fix. As years passed, that passion stuck with me and ultimately led me to study at Virginia Tech, where I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design. Upon graduation, I moved to Philadelphia to work as a home merchant at Anthropologie HQ, buying everything from art and antiques to lighting and decorative textiles. I've worked with wonderful partners from all over the globe, buying antiques from French dealers and producing lighting with Asian vendors. Fast forward a few years to where I am now - creating magical spaces that are a true reflection of you, your family and your lifestyle. My work has been featured by Domino, Design Sponge, Apartment Therapy, HGTV Magazine - just to name a few. Currently, my husband, rescue pups and I reside right outside of the City of Brotherly Love, where we are busy renovating our forever home. When I'm not designing, you can find me at flea markets, thrift stores and estate sales. I'm always on the hunt for a glorious vintage find. I seek out the best markets while travelling. I've shopped The Paris Flea Market, The Brimfield Antique Market and The Rose Bowl. Many of the one of a kind goodies I find are available through The Early Bird Vintage on Chairish. I take joy in creating homes that appear curated over time, combining the things you love with my artful eye. Every space I create is a true collaboration of visions.
