Rochelle Silberman Design
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"What fun it was to work with Rochelle Silberman! She's very pragmatic, worked with our budget (and taught us how to), found us contractors (her tile guy is just fabulous, and that was so important), and stayed with us through the whole process. She has tons of experience, and gave us good reasons to do this, but not that. The end result was a beautiful and functional bathroom. After we finished our main bathroom, we moved on to a lower budget, smaller bathroom, For that, Rochelle consulted on an as-needed basis, via email and phone, and provided resources, contacts, and best of all, her informed opinion. Again, a successful outcome. Rochelle's design eye is spot-on, as is her understanding of context. In this case, we remodeled the bathrooms in preparation to sell the house. She sent us back to the drawing board at least once, reminding us that the bathroom has to have universal appeal if it is to help sell the house. So my Mexican-themed bathroom went out the window, which was a good thing. More recently, Rochelle provided color consultation for interior painting, again in preparation for sale. She came over with four or five color sample books, each with samples that were about 6" x 6" -- big enough to really see the colors. So far, we've only painted the bedroom, but I like it! Rochelle's also fun to be with. She's very, very competent, yet modest. She tells great, funny anecdotes. She's professional."

Yumi Interiors
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"Kyoko hit a major reset button on our house and lives. After almost 40 years of collecting and aquiring various attachments, our house was looking pretty worn out and messy. I wanted to paint everything, get rid of things and freshen up the the house for our next chapter in life, which was semi-retiring and focussing on my art. As I consider myself very creative, I though it would be easy, but colors are the hardest thing to pick! And I had made a few costly mistakes before and had to repaint everything after we had finished it 20 years ago! Kyoko is a magician when it comes to color. I showed her things that I liked and she came up with colors I would never even have thought of! The colors are exquisite, as is the mood! I told her I loved a world ( ethnic ), modern, and Victorian look. Pretty crazy, right? She said we could do it! I wanted a fresh and vibrant take on this combination. We used some of the furniture that we had and carefully picked out, a modern velvet couch and a few other pieces and the look is simply gorgeous! The house feels incredibly artisitc, unusual, and luxurious. I even have 3 modern cabinets for my Kitty Museum! The new kitchen counter is modern, and blingy with gold and silver specks and Maori tatoo designs on the tile backsplash! She even had a new take on hanging our art, in a way I would have never thought of! Now that’s just the house and it’s transformations. Kyoko is so much fun and professional to work with. She will tell you the truth and her opinion, but she listened carefully to our quirky needs and budget. She distilled and designed our wishes into a beautiful functional living space. She also taught me how to see things differently, and that is a gift. We have simplified our life as a result and we love it! She is a genius! Now our house is the house I have always dreamed of! Destination Eichler, LLC
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"We hired Destination Eichler to help us upgrade our kitchen cabinets. We had already done some work on our kitchen to replace the counters and appliances, but the cabinets were 15 or so years old. Karen (from Destination Eichler) came out soon after we reached out to her on Houzz. She helped us find a great contractor to do exactly what we wanted, which was to replace the cabinet doors and to put a well-made veneer on the existing cabinets. Our existing cabinets were well-made, but the style did not fit our home. The work Karen did allowed us to affordably replace the cabinet doors and panels while moving our kitchen up a notch in terms of it's mid-century modern look. I have hired previous designers, but I have never been as happy with a designer's solution as I was with Karen's approach on our project. She has wonderful vision, a focus on the mid-century/Eichler look, and a great attitude. I'm so happy we hired Destination Eichler. I look forward to hiring her for other projects!"

Niche Interiors
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"I used Niche Interiors to help me decorate and stylize my condo and it turned out amazing! The thing I was most impressed with was her ability to capture the essence of my personality and interests and transform it into fashionable interior design qualities. She was also easy to work with and provided plenty of suggestions that allowed me to have a wide selection of choices. I would highly recommend her to any friends."

IDF Studio
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"I have worked with IDF Studio for 7+ years on various projects. Whether it be for Airbnb HQ or Zendesk, Jaclyn and her team are ultimately collaborative, and have delivered thoughtful design. Working on interiors projects can be a crazy environment, as any Workplace person knows. The folks at IDF Studio are professional, yet fun - a great mix for any project - which kept me laughing or serious, depending on what was going on. Design is one thing, but being able to curate a space is really one of things that put their approach over the top. It's the little things that define a space, and it takes a certain eye to do it well. IDF is among the best."

CM Natural Designs
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"In preparation for retirement, we moved to San Diego from Salt Lake City. Leaving a two story, six bedroom suburban home and coming into a three bedroom beach house, we quickly discovered we had too much of the wrong kind of furniture. Wanting to start from scratch, we sold all of it, leaving only the vitally necessary pieces we needed to live. We bought a beach house built in the mid 50’s, which we wanted to update but leave in its original mid-century modern style. We knew what we liked, but had trouble envisioning it in our home. We sought out designers and were referred to Corine. She met with us and we quickly became comfortable with her style ideas and background, but it was her upbeat enthusiasm and energy that sold us on hiring her. Corine specializes in Coastal themes, and was able to give us plans that were unique and innovative yet kept us with a comfortable beach house which, we feel, matches the community in which we live. As we work our way through the house, we continue to be pleased with her designs. We highly recommend you take the time to meet Corine and look at her work, I think you’ll find after you meet her that she can help you as well. Pat and Valerie Lewis"

LMK Interiors
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"I have done three projects with LMK Interiors - primary residence remodel (2008), investment property flip (2012) and current new primary home construction (2013). The only constant from those three projects has been Leslie with LMK Interiors. Simply put, I would not undertake a project on my house without her. She's everything you would want in a designer - great style, flexible, unbelievable color taste, easy to work with, spunky and fun but hardnosed if she needs to be. For any couple who is considering a project and knows the stress a remodel puts on the relationship - the best thing you can do is to hire Leslie. One of her greatest strengths is acting as a project manager. She does not advertise this service which I always think is crazy since she's so good at it. She will act as your quarterback between the contractor and architect. The bottom line on a project is that you need all three team members but Leslie is the most important for me as my wife and I defer almost all decisions to her. When the contractor asks whether you want 4” or 6” crown and what style or what type of window trim or whether the architect has the best master bathroom and kitchen layout – Leslie will ensure you make the right decision. Importantly, she coordinates the style and look of your entire house to flow seamlessly without looking like a model house or something too eclectic. She coordinated every step with us – architectural layout, lighting plan, appliances, cabinets, tile, hardwood floors, carpet, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, windows, doors, hardware, window shades, paint color and furniture. Her partner Gayle is great as well and specializes in furniture selection. LMK Interiors make a very stressful, long, difficult process as much fun and as efficient as it can be."

Joy Street Design
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"We hired Kelly at Joy Street Design for our whole house remodel. Kelly acted as our project manager for the entire remodel, and worked closely with our general contractor, subcontractors and us in connection with every single design detail on the project. We were first time remodelers but watch a ton of HGTV (and of course, are constantly on HOUZZ) and are very particular. She made everything easy and we never had to worry about a thing, which was great as we did not live close by. She did not try to impose her style on us - she figured out what style we liked and made recommendations based on that. Her work on the kitchen and on the kids' rooms was especially fantastic. We were making a big move from the Bay Area to LA and wanted to make sure that the kids' rooms were awesome and something they could really get excited about. The kids LOVE their rooms and so do we."

Deniece Duscheone Design
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"Deniece was an absolute pleasure to work with and we will work with her next on our vacation home in Tahoe. She had an amazing attention to detail and delivered an outstandingly beautiful design, our house is the envy of the street. Deniece comes with an excellent array of high quality craftsmen and original sources; her team were extremely professional and the project was seamless from start to finish. We would recommend her to anyone in San Francisco wishing to remodel."

Lucile Glessner Design
Interior Designers and Decorators in El Cerrito, CA
"A Note About Lucile: I found Lucile Glessner through a referral in May 2011, just after buying our new house in Portola Valley. The structure is a loft-like, open-plan, rustic design with very high ceilings and lots of light. To say the least, it is very different from the traditional center-hall styles I had inhabited to date. I needed a lot of help. I chose Lucile over others I met with because I really liked her energy, personality and complete lack of snobbery. This said, I also selected her because I knew she would challenge me the most. She did not just tell me what I wanted to hear in that first meeting (or ever afterward.). She was honest about what things would transfer well and which things would have to retire. Most importantly, she took me seriously when I asked her to educate my eye. I do not move and design a home very often, so I really wanted this to be an educational and developmental experience for me. She really delivered. She did not give me her taste; she educated and developed mine. Lucile made me take risks. I got better and better at this and am so much happier with the result than if I had worked with someone who let me play it safe. The scope of our project involved a kitchen re-design, fireplace rehab, new lighting, new doors/fixtures, build-out and design of 7 closets, sound system integration, and complete interior design/art consultation using both old and new pieces. The result exceeds every expectation I could have had. Here is why: --Creative Vision. My home looks nothing like anything that I saw in Lucile’s portfolio of past work. This tells me that she is constantly pushing herself to discover new approaches to design and be inspired by the space at hand. This said, she also leverages her experience. She knew what materials would work well; she knew how to analyze the space flow and lighting patterns; she is technically adept with CAD software, which let us experiment (cost-free) with various ideas; she favors things that are both “simple and unique.” And, that is how my house turned out: utterly simple and totally unique. --Unbelievable Resources and Project Partners. (Yes, I can actually say I LOVED the contractor Lucile brought into this project, which must be pretty rare given the stories one hears.) All of the people Lucile brought in to help with the project were superb, talented and fun to work with. The fabricator built a gorgeous stone hearth to Lucile’s specs. A local metal-working artist created a coffee table from old wood and copper cladding. Two assistants helped with everything, including a wall-sculpture for the hall from old batik presses (designed by Lucile.) All of the artists she exposed me to and the out-of- the-way resources she showed me are integral to her professional practice and truly wonderful. (I still cackle with glee over the closet design specialist Lucile brought in….she created wonderful, elegant storage spaces using her own skills and an economical materials source that will be my secret forever, mainly because no one who sees them would believe it.) --Efficiency. Lucile was efficient in two ways. First was with time. I hired her in Mid-May and was moved in, with all major construction and design done, by June 30. The second was with money. Lucile’s professional model is well-thought through and delivers real value. It is a cliché to say that I saved a lot by working with her, but it is true. Beyond cost savings, Lucile also knew where to splurge for impact and where to cut corners and be extra-creative. We did at least twice as much as planned and still stayed on budget. This was a true collaboration with a gifted partner and one of the best personal experiences I have had. Congratulations and many thanks to Lucile! Martha Josephson and Jon Carter 5 Sandstone Street Portola Valley, CA November 2011"

What does an interior designer do?

A good home design professional will hone your style down to its very essence and be able to choose a functional layout that feels natural to you.
