Mark J. MacDonald Interior Design offers a full range of residential design services with an emphasis on comfort and the optimum utilization of space. With over twenty-five years of experience working closely with clients and craftsmen, Mark believes that proper design is not only a matter of principal, but an open-ended journey through a process, which at times may be trying, yet is ultimately an exceptionally rewarding experience for all involved. Mark's aesthetic leans towards an important aspect of interior design: form follows function, a phrase noted by American architect, Louis Sullivan. "Our homes are a reflection of our personalities, and even if we are fortunate enough to enjoy multiple residences, each should maintain a high standard of continuity - our chosen style flowing effortlessly from room to room, unbroken by that which may startle or confuse." It is Mark's goal to guide each client through the process with passion, attention to the smallest of details, and above all, a sense of humor critical to the process.

I see myself as partnering with clients to provide fresh, personalized solutions to a wide variety of design challenges. Being a designer affords me access into the private lives of my clients and I take that very seriously. Using those insights, I pride myself on how deeply I'm able to project my clients' personality and lifestyle into their environment, within their budget, with the least amount of stress- if not a few laughs - along the way. The "look" of my projects vary because, naturally, my clients vary. I thrive on that range of creative expression. Years of experience in creative thinking paired with keen listening skills and absolute attention to detail make for a uniquely custom result to be enjoyed for many years to come.
In truth, Kim has been involved in design since elementary school - regularly rearranging furniture and accessories in her childhood home. Her very first experience as a lead designer was "playing Barbies", which never involved the Barbies themselves, but did involve fashioning empty cardboard boxes into Barbie houses complete with handmade furniture and accessories. Flash forward to her early twenties when, after receiving her B.A. from Bentley University, she began helping friends and family design their homes. There the seed for her business was planted. Later she enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design's interior design program and Norton-O'Brien Design was officially born. Kim combines a mix of modern and traditional elements layered together to create a customized interior that speaks to her client. She makes the process of design fun, but always with the same goal in mind: to create a space that brings her client peace, pride and pleasure. Her passion for interior design and client satisfaction is evidenced in each and every project and in the awards she's received, including: Best of Houzz winner 2011 (Remodeling), 2012 (Design), 2013 (Customer Service), 2014 (Customer Service) and 2015 (Design, Service). Kim's design work is found in homes throughout New England, as well as in Florida, Arizona, Kentucky, Virginia, Illinois and beyond.
